When you head from Esthar to Tears point, do/did you walk or travel by car?

If you walked, tell us why...

Walk walk walk walk. I never rent a car. The only time you'll ever find me in one of those rental cars in the game is the missile base quest. It's more fun walking and also that's the area where you can first encounter Malboros, so I'm usually looking to pick up some Malboro Tentacles.

BTW, since you asked the question, which do you do?

Nice of you to ask.

I was also figuring that someone would remember the location and point out about the Marlboro tentacles, but besides a few decent lvls of exp to gain, it's more often then not, a time waster.

You can find better exp elsewhere when you are done finding the solomon ring.

If you read my post in this forum titled 'interesting note/question'
you'll see semi-directions on how to get Marlboro tentacles RIGHT after you finish the transformation of the Balamb Garden. Which is an entire different disc from Esthar travels.

So if my levels were kinda low, but not too low and I was in need I'd go for the tentacles but if I had already gotten them from Grandidi Forest, then I'd just assume drive and save time. Besides you can leave the car there I think and use it some time later for free as you did with Dollet rental(s).

Yeah, I know about easier ways to get the Malboro Tentacles. But I was more talking about the past when I didn't know about them. And either way, I still always walk. I just don't rent cars.

Let's keep on the walk or drive topic instead of making this a malboro tentacle shall we? :)

I only used the car when I was given to or needed to, to go on with the story xD. I thought going with the car was like slower... :E

Anyway, I used the Esthar car just for fun, to see what it looked like and such. It looked fun xD.. but I got out of it, started fighting and kinda forgot the car. It is now compressed in time :B

LOL. Not if you believe that funny little dippy rental car girl in Dollet:
"So like, if you move around in a car...it's like, real fast and real
safe..."

Heh heh.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">Sometimes I walk, sometimes I don't. Depends on whether I can be bothered to fight loads of Mesmerizes or not. ;) In fact, it's better to walk, because before going to the Lunar Base, the only enemies you fight in that area are Mesmerizes (unless you go too near the Malboros ;)), and if you Mug them you get a lot of Mesmerize Blades. These refine into lots of Regens, which are good for junctioning. And not only that, you get to go to the place you wanted to go while getting these, rather than having to stand around fighting for ages. :D

So yeah, it seems a much better idea to walk, I just get a car when I'm not in the mood for battles. ;)

Walk or drive? Walk all the time, weird as it sounds. I only use the vehicle if it's the only way of clearing that particular obstacle, or if it's an airship. So I don't bother using the car in Final Fantasy VIII as it doesn't clear any obstacles (that I can remember, damn it's been a long time since I've played the game.)

I prefer walking because it helps leveling and gets items I might need.

Yep, you're right Bahamut ZERO. There's never a need for one of those cars with the exception of the Missile Base Mission. For that one, you can't go in unless you're in a car. Other than that, you're never required to use them. It's sort of like chocobos. I'll use them if I want to get somewhere fast or there's some particular need for them, but other than that, I don't really get on them. For example, compare with FFVI: chocobos? Useless. I only used one like maybe once, and that was just to hear what the theme sounded like.

Drive for sure....unless I got Encounter none...but still its like a 5 min walk. I prefer to drive....it just saves alot of time. And I don't bother leveling up...as it doesn't really help much anyway.

what the hell is wrong with u. when u level up ur characters do get more pwerfull, if what u say is true than u would fight

SPOILER

u would fight ultimacia at level 1?
it may not seem like it, but that little bit would get u a good amout of experiance point at that low a level, and some good items. i think ur an idiot. ur one of those morons that go through the game really fast, and dont do the fun stuff, what the hell is wrong with u, all the fun stuff is great.

sorry for getting off the subject. my oppinion is obviusly walk.

I voted drove as I really hate fighting the monsters around there and I'm really lazy :B

At first I walked 'cause I didn't want to waste any Gil, then I realized I wouldn't be able to make it, especially with Malboros around, so I went back and drove.

Driving is fun but rental cars only take you so far...i mean you gotta fork over more dough for gas..

Anyways, walking is alot better because you can battle along the way and build levels.

One person mentioned ENC-None. It's the best. No point buying a car if you don't want to fight people. Besides, that fuel runs out pretty damn quick. I got one car in the whole game (bought it myself) but it disappears after Disk 4 starts so what's the point?
