Domestic war

Finally the battle is won,
men collapse exhausted and fatigued.
We lost so many brothers,
in this chance to needlessly succeed.

Little time to rest as the whistle is blown,
We stagger to our feet and advance upon our homes.

Light explodes from beyond our hill,
we fix bayonets and ready to kill.
Grasping our rifles we run towards fate,
for many of us it would end at shining pearly gates.

Movement above me catches my eye,
I look above to where the bloody angels fly.
There flew a flag barely visable through the hue,
that sinister joke that was red, white and blue.

Pain riddles my body and i slowly die,
the green i wore corrupted by red.
She sits at home oblivious to the fact,
that her husband is now dead.

The ring on her finger feels loose,
the baby in her arms wails.
But she'll never know what happened,
she'll be fed lies and fairy tales.

My body one of thousands,
alighted by the dawn.
A fading memory to my country,
as i bled out on my front lawn.

I'll be following this up with a more enthusiastic and motivational piece, havent posted in ages.
