haha It only took them 12 years... that's not too bad, right?

Hopefully it's not another 4 or 5 for the second and third parts.

oh right, I forgot they're releasing it in three parts...

At this rate, we'll finish the full 2nd game (all three parts) by the time I hit 50, and we'll maybe finish out the third game (assuming there will be, since their other two, Warcraft and Diablo, both went to 3 games..) will be out just in time for me to turn 85.

Um, don't assume this won't get delayed. Just sayin'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first "official" release date for sc2 that we've had. The other ones were just "first quarter of year x" , "Month Y of Year Z" etc.

well, starcraft ghost was also near completion before magically being erased from existence.
the mistery of SCG rivals that of JFK's assasination: only the perpetrators know the truth.

It's the first one I've heard of. I'm just saying, given how notorious blizzard is when it comes to delays, don't be surprised if it still gets pushed back. Official release dates still aren't set in stone.

This is true, and I'm fully expecting the date to be delayed.

However, I'm just happy that they're far enough along to even consider putting official release dates out there... it's a big step from where we've been for the past 12 years!

Jizz in my pants. I would've wished it a bit sooner though... This is practically 2 of the 3 months of summer wasted. What the hell am I gonna be doing those 2 months?!

Starcraft II has very low minimum system requirements. If your computer is from 2004-2005 it should be able to play Starcraft II no problem. The graphics are of course pretty lousy at that point, but that shouldn't matter.

Not surprised that I was beat to the punch on this. Nice to see a reasonable price on it too, though I'm leaning toward getting the collector's edition(so I can give my uncle my old SC copy...he lost his). This was one of the two reasons I got my new rig too, so...definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with this.

Yeah, my friend had a copy of the beta, and his computer is terrible... graphics weren't much to look at, but you could play it.

And that's all that really matters.

There is a $100 Collector Edition for this one, coming with both original StarCraft titles plus tons of other things (art book, soundtrack etc). Still skeptical about Blizz's decision to split the sequel into three "episodes". I wonder when the rest of them are coming out.

Oh, I was at gamestop yesterday and they have a pre-order offer of a beta key if anyone is interested and couldn't get into the beta before this.

It's kinda sad that the beta is region blocked. Which means I can only play with other people from Europe. Maybe this is just for the beta so they can monitor how the people from different regions play the game because believe me, there are major differences in play styles. For example, in Korea the Zerg are very dominant, in the US they are very unpopular and in Europe somewhere in the middle. Hopefully the final game won't be region blocked because honestly there's no real reason for that. This isn't WoW.

As for the three episodes thing, I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Especially since I heard they might charge full-price for all three of them! Is this the first FAIL by Blizzard? I sure hope not. I mean I guess it would make sense to release it as DLC or something for 15-20$ but at full-price. Either they're hiding something, or I'm just misinformed. But don't be fooled by thinking that the Wings of Liberty campaign will be short and unenjoyable. Oh no. It's most likely the biggest and baddest campaign Blizzard has ever made. It takes an average of 50 hours to beat and consists of 29 missions.

Also do you have any idea what kind of custom maps there are gonna be for Starcraft II? That map editor is THE most powerful tool ever. You thought Warcraft III had good custom maps? Well your mind will be blown by Starcraft II's capabilities Just take a look at these:

One thing I really like about Blizzard, even though I'm not really a fan of their games, is that they go for relatively low system requirements. It really sucks when you want to play a new game but you can't afford to buy a whole new PC that can actually run it. Good art direction is all you really need to have a great looking game anyway.

Also if anyone wants any kind of info on the beta, I'll be glad to answer any questions. I've been participating for 2 months now.
