Thanks for posting this! After learning that Screen Archives released the expanded version of "Search For Spock," I decided to go on the site and request the score to Independence Day, one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a damn shame that David Arnold's score has not been given justice for so long, and I've waited for so long for a true complete score that it hurt. And now, it's finally here! Hearing the music of the big fight in the last 15 minutes was truly refreshing because it took me COMPLETELY by surprise! I've heard the alternates, but never this, and I love it so much! It made me realize how truly talented David Arnold is at creating suspense and drama.

As for the cue I've been looking for for years, well, it's finally here, as presented in the film. "He Did It" is long overdue, and it boggles me why it was never initially released! This is the fanfare that plays after the alien attacker is destroyed, and it is very jubilant, instead of the crappy alternate that has been around since the original release. After hearing it, I feel like a search since childhood has finally been accomplished.

Thanks for posting this. It truly is a great work.

Im wondering. There are some edits required for some tracks: "Darkest Day" has some quick repeats of a second here and there, as well as "Evacuation". The same is true for "Base Attack". Repeating a few bars over again and continuing so the music matches the picture better I guess, but all the other versions I have of this don't have these little edits. Does this have it? Or does any edition have it? I managed to make these edits myself, but they are not superb. If anyone has any leads to these film versions upload please.

Thanks

The music was indeed altered to fit the film's sequences, as is the case with most scores.

Why you would actually want those looped segments inserted into the cues from the film instead of the original cues as-written on this album is a bit confusing to me, but to answer your question no release has those looped segments in there.

jedisaurus
03-01-2011, 11:49 PM
cause im a complete score dork. I reedit all my scores so they match the film as exactly as they can. Sorry. Haha

JHFan
03-02-2011, 12:18 AM
That's unfortunate, because so many film scores are ruined by all the edits made to them to fit their films.

jedisaurus
03-02-2011, 12:41 AM
Haha. Im the opposite! I hate the album versions. The turning point for me was the Star Wars Phantom Menace 2 CD album of the complete score. It had everything re edited and the cues were cut short. I loved it. Haha o well. I prefer the edits and redoes because they help me relive the movie, but if you prefer the album suites then great! Good music is good music.

I know this is a few months old but the problem with FILM VERSION edits of scores is most of the time a lot of UNUSED (and most of the time interesting) music gets cut from the film. The Phantom Menace was the biggest culprit of this (in fact all the Prequels). Don't get me wrong for the longest time I loved the so called "Ultimate Edition" until I was shown the light on the intended version. Thanks to the recent Star Wars games I've made myself the complete intended edit of the score and it's by far a MUCH better listening experience then all the clunky edits and looped notes that's in the "Ultimate Edition".

Independence Day was a no brainer, the original intended version unedited of the cues are much better than the looped cues they had in the film, especially for the final battle. There's some unused notes later in "Russell's Packin'" that they dropped in favor of repeated material from earlier in the cue (when Russell said "Sorry I'm late, Mr. President!" and his fanfare played). The edit is not very good and most of edits you hear in films are covered by sound effects.

It's easy to convert the FLAC to 320kbps mp3s, but kinda annoying that the FLAC file is not split up into tracks... I only keep tracks on my computer that I actually love and remember from the film... can't be bothered breaking it up myself... anyone got a track by track rip of the 2 CDs? :/

Is it in a .bin file or something like that? You can split these into tracks using foobar as along as there is a .cue file (I think I have my extensions right!)

Ahh they are two big FLAC files, foobar shoudl be able to do this but I couldn't get it to do this so had get around it another way.
