I'm on the third piece, "Ononoki", and although I would not call this a masterpiece it is still a riveting example of Oriental composition. Great stuff! I love how the composer uses chorus without making it "epic".

When I used the term "little masterpiece", I was thinking about anime as a whole - not music only:) Anyway, I'm glad you like it.

From Wiki:
"Mononoke follows a wandering, nameless character known only as the "Medicine Seller". The series is made up of individual chapters in which the medicine seller encounters, combats and subsequently destroys various mononoke. The "mononoke" are a type of ayakashi, unnatural spirits that linger in the human world.
The Medicine Seller always proceeds in the same manner, using his knowledge of the supernatural to fend off the mononoke until he can learn the spirit's shape (Katachi), truth (Makoto) and reasoning (Kotowari). Only then can he unsheathe his sword and exorcise the demon. (...) The directing and art have been called "boldly confrontational." It seamlessly blends a murder mystery structure with "twist of supernatural and a shake of historical, peppered with plenty of stylistic experimentation." It frequently achieves "the ideal - great directing combined with great animation." The Mainichi newspaper said it could not be dismissed as a mere experiment, and that the story's themes were every bit as advanced as the digital animation techniques employed."

yasuharu takanashi = god, so its good to have more of his works here =D

So I finally got around to listening to this score. It is a fantastic example of atmospheric tense action music. There are some interesting melodies used here as well as sparse but effective use of traditional Japanese instruments. I quite enjoy this and thanks again for sharing :)

You are right this anime is a masterpiece, i never watch such of anime like this, really beautiful and heart touching i score this as good with spirited away and mononoke hime :)

I have seen the anime and the prequel. Ayakashi ~japanese classic horror~. Monoke was made as a sequel from the last 3 episodes of ayakashi. This is one Original Masterpiece of late anime world. I'm sick of large breasts, school girls, cheesy shit stories and music also. There are so much horrible soundtracks coming now. I just download from those I like.

Szczepan , if you do not have the ost of ayakashi ~japanese classic horror~ i can upload it to you, it still is yasuharu takanashi and i don't know how you did not notice, but there missing tracks on the ost of monoke, because those missing tracks are from the ost of ayakashi ;)
I've seen both, and i was more delighted with monoke. "Simply Wonderful Washing Sight".
I recommend you to listen Terra he of 2007. It is also yasuharu takanashi and it is my favorite soundtrack of him. not saying that I did noliked this one. I loved it, but I think when you listen terra he you will know what I mean. ;)

I love these kind of soundtracks of him. These orchestral pieces on asian side are very , not just relaxing but something else that takes us out of this world. My favorite soundtrack is Terra he...very less metal stuff XD and the main theme i think it is the best main theme he made for an anime in my opinion. :)
