I just felt like posting this.
I dont know if anyone knows about this but here I go. It is about the history of the Playstation. Nintendo was working on the SNES. After it's release Nintendo and Sony wanted to make the SNES CD. I was never finished and Sony kept on building this addon. Later it was released as a Platstation with the ability to play SNES games. Though short after its release it was killed and Sony went back to the drawing table. Some time later the Playstation as we know it today was finisshed as the 1st 32bit console without the ability to play SNES games. So Sony's big succes was more of a lucky break :).

Yea Ive known about that controversy as do any gamer worth their salt does also, the unofficial reason they Sony went into the console wars was to simply get back at Nintendo, Nin got cocky and decided to go stay with their old fashion cart system recipe. That alone was one of the reasons they didnt make it on the top but just stayed on 2nd place, Sony made a system that had a significantly lower production costs overall in the long run than Nintendo and that factor transferred to the public as low cost but great games.

I recall hearing that Sony wanted to merge with Nintendo some long time ago in the PSX,Nintendo 64 days, but Sony insisted that it be a CD driven system.Nintendo didn't go through with it, because they had plans to make the 64DD,but never finished it........and since then has now has switched to Micro CDs,with the release of the GameCube.

I'd also like to add that the reason why Nintendo pulled out of the agreement was that they realized at the last minute Sony was trying to pull a takeover, so they were acting to preserve their independance.

Talk about stretching for avatar stats Xzhan hehe:P j/k

You know, if it wasn't so much more expensive to produce cart-games, Nintendo (main) might have squashed the PSX.

I wish it had. CD's are junk. Carts are classic and can you imagine with today's technology how much memory each would be shipped with. Screw memory cards.
They also can take much abuse :)! Unlike Cd's.

I've kept all my original Cart games from the early 90's in plexiglass frames for display.

I mean who do you know still owns a mint condition FFI Japanese and American version Cart?
