Lol, Link's change of apparel in Ocarina of Time after being frozen for seven years baffled me too; or, Sheik's masculine appearance, when in fact, Sheik is . . . (SPOILER)! That always got me too. Weird.

But I'm pretty psyched about the new Zelda as well. After the work of pure amazement that was Twilight Princess, I can only hope the new one follows in the same node. I know everyone else hates the cartoonish graphics of Wind Waker, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass and now Spirit Tracks (which I have yet to play) but I personally love the look, and would love to see a combination of the two, TP-esque and WW-esque in the same game.

After finally getting back into A Link to the Past after a long while, I can definitely say I love its style of your basic 'get-up-and-go' gameplay, whereas Twilight Princess's one apparent fault in my eyes is dragging the introduction onward a bit too far. I do love TP's storyline, but sometimes you just gotta wrap it up and drive on.

Also yes, Midna FTW :D

Personally, I hope the new zelda game doesn't follow in TPs footsteps. I liked TP and all, and it had a ton of new fodder to laugh at, but I found it way too easy. I'd love it if they kept the graphics but overhauled the gameplay to be more challenging.

I didn't care for WW, but for some reason I love the crap out of PH and ST... try to figure that one out lol. I guess I like the whole visual style better for hand held games.

Also yes, Midna FTW :D

Agreed. I love the look on Link's face when watches the hot Midna leave, because it was then that he realized what he lost.... and what he was now stuck with. LOLOLOL ^o^

I bet he wanted Midna to ride him just one last time. That's not a dirty joke......... I swear.

TP really wasn't very good. Not nearly as good as the 3D Zeldas before it anyway. It was nothing like they hyped it up to be, either. They kept painting it as a DARK Zelda, but it just turned out to be dark in its appearance. I think that burned Nintendo pretty bad, which is probably why they're keeping pretty quiet about their releases now.

The man behind Zelda has admitted TP turned out to be more of a tech demo than anything else. I agree with him, really. It was pretty much just a straightforward adventure game without the world (full of sidequests/mysteries/great characters/whatever) that the games before it had. He has hyped up The LoZ to be the greatest Zelda ever made, but that's obviously a pretty tough call to make.

Link's Awakening was my favorite. From the very beginning with having to use the shield to push that spiky thing out of the way to the later one with knocking down the pillars in the dungeon, I could tell the puzzles were going to be a great challenge.

Never have played Oracle of Ages or Seasons before; just never have found a copy of either one :O And definitely Link's Awakening stands out as one of my favorites; it has nothing to do with the canonical storyline but yet it's one of the largest worlds in the series, longest overall quest, and some of the best puzzles! I remember not being able to put that one down until I was finished, and man was it fun. I'm anxious to give it another go one of these days.

Getting back to Twilight Princess, I definitely consider it a great game with great graphics, gameplay, music, and just overall presentation, but I'd have to say one of my most major gripes about it stems from the aforementioned lengthy introduction sequence (this isn't a FF afterall) and the simple fact that special items found in dungeons (i.e. the Hammer, Ball-N-Chain, etc.) never seem to find use outside of the dungeon in which they are obtained (man, that was all one sentence :O). Throughout the series, in every installment, finding the key items in dungeons has always been an essential aspect of progressing through the game. Namely A Link to the Past; you can't reach Death Mountain until you obtain the Power Glove from the Desert Temple. Or the Ocarina, which is essential in allowing you access to the Swamp, because the bird it summons is the only means of reaching it. The items play a part in the game from the moment you get them onward. But not in Twilight Princess! That really bummed me about that game as a whole. The cool gadget you get in Arbiter's Grounds that lets you climb walls only finds one more use afterwards that I can recall; letting you reach a chest on a cliff with some Rupees in it, I think, if even that. TALK ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT!!! I can certainly see anyone's negative points of view with regards to the game, but I do love it for the most part; it's still a fun and enjoyable title of the series and, to me, is just as great as Ocarina, Link to the Past, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Link's Awakening.

Another gripe I have with it is that Ganondorf just has to appear and take over as the lead villain. It gets a bit tiresome seeing him return time and again, when he's only been bested how many times? I thought Zant made a far more interesting choice for the villain in this installment. But no, the developers got lazy and thought, 'Oh, nevermind, we'll just bring good ol' Ganon back in for another round of the same old kinda battles instead of something new! Great idea, guys! Beers on me for such an astonishingly brilliant concept!' or some variation of that. I'm gonna be really pissed if they choose to repeat that in this new Wii game. I'd honestly like it if they'd just do away with the whole Ganondorf thing and come up with a whole new bad guy for this one. Hey, it worked for Majora's Mask afterall! And Link's Awakening! Let's hope we don't get let down in that regard a second time.

edit: Ahh, yes Neg, being able to jump was another great feature! Man, hopefully they'll throw in something like that in the new game too! :D

I played Spirit Tracks and it was fun up to a certain point. I eventually had to sell it without finishing it due to some sort of glitch.

It happened at the Goron village when I had to learn another song. No matter how perfect I played the song, the guy said I was doing it wrong. So, I started a new game and I couldn't get past the first song you had to learn for some reason. I had no problem learning it the first run through. Pissed me off that I didn't have a chance to finish the game because I was really enjoying it up to that point.

But....... avilslare is right. There are many glitches to the game can cause rage. I've not encountered that ^ glitch, but I have encountered 2 others for myself.

1. I was inside a dungeon... I can't remember what exactly I was doing or where I was... but anyway I ended up getting caught by a phantom and whacked. When I re-spawned at the door with zelda, a horrible air horn type noise started going. It was loud as hell and would not stop even if I turned the volume off. Turning the game off fixed it.

2. I was working so hard trying to get the final battle. I finally got a the hit in to take me to the final fight. The screen goes black to go to the animations and............. it ....... didn't do anything. It stayed black. No amount of button pushing did anything. It froze. Turning the game off fixed it. But I was so ticked off. I have to do the part I did before that again >_< I still haven't gotten over the anger to pick it up and finish it.

But glitches aside, it does have its game play flaws. Especially trying direct Zelda. You'll find out that part when you get to it though. No need for me to rant on it.

Man, that's insane, the glitches you guys are finding in the games. . . . I never seem to get copies ripe with such things. Then again, I'm always so careful when handling games (mainly DS cartridges and CD-ROMs) you'd think I was handling a sample of some dangerous explosive, so maybe it really all just has to do with how you treat it. Not blaming you guys or anything, just sayin' ;) Also, I'm only about an hour and a half into Spirit Tracks and I'm not feeling this one like I did Phantom Hourglass. I like what they tried to do; continue with that same great idea, but it just didn't pan out as before. They sure have my curiosity piqued as to what may come with this new Wii title, but as I realize they hyped Twilight Princess to extremes far greater than what fans actually received, they're deliberately keeping this one a fair deal more under-wraps so as not to create the same situation. I think a lot of companies should follow this trend myself, to be honest; I can think of several games I purchased solely due to their promotional content hooking me, only to discover that 50% or more was just that: promotional content. False advertising is among my biggest pet peeves, and too many of these big developers are guilty of it, whether they care to admit it or not. In any case, my fierce level of love for Twilight Princess may stem partially from the fact that I witnessed virtually NO propaganda for it prior to my purchase, thus my reactions were undeterred by false presumptions. With the only clue to the newest title being the mysterious poster appearing across the internet (yea, I think it's popular enough that I don't need to go into further detail; if I do, let me know) I've seen fans and critics alike pick it apart and overanalyze it like the Mona Lisa, and that's probably as much as we'll get from Nintendo before the game is set for near-future release.

Get the black Wii. It looks sexy. :)

As far as TP glitches are concerned, I think it was my overall system. I was playing that weird dungeon in Gerudo desert that goes down like 50 levels or so. At one point during the battle, the game froze and I got these weird green lines across the screen. Turned off the system and turned it back on, but didn't help. Ended up having to get a new system completely. Good thing my brother worked at Toys R Us part-time 'cause he convinced the manager to take it back and let me get a new one. The only sucky thing about it was having to start Twilight Princess over from the beginning again... when the game locked up, I was about to head to Hyrule Castle for the final showdown.

1. Because he always does that. The sword needs to be there for the next incarnation/descendant of Link. (I don't remember if the Master Sword is also a seal when in its pedestal, which is usually the case or something. Might also have to do with the balance of power or something in the world.)

2. The LoZ games are all-providing these days, you should know that by now if you are a true LoZ fan. =P He probably just took longer than normal to get back.

3. They hiked/rockclimbed. The desert is on a higher elevation, warping/firing yourself into the desert is just for the player's convenience.

4. Link is a dolt, you should know that. Or he always had feelings for her, in which case whether or not the next woman is better is irrelevant to him.

Well, I've been at Spirit Tracks now for a while, and after just completing the Forest Temple, a few things have made themselves clear to me: this game is basically to Phantom Hourglass what Majora's Mask was to Ocarina of Time, in that it takes all of the basic elements of its predecessor and magnifies them. For instance, various moves have been made a little easier to execute, the character models and environments seem a little crisper, and the music is far superior. Don't get me wrong; Phantom Hourglass is an amazing game with great characters, great gameplay mechanics, and an awesome soundtrack. But Spirit Tracks' OST is one that I would buy if I could. Hell, I'm sure I could, somewhere on this great, vast, wide internet. But anyway. The story in this game is a little strange–maybe not as strange as Majora's Mask, but you definitely feel like you're in a far different world than you're used to. Link's iconic green garbs are reduced to being the royal soldier uniform which Link steals in order to gain audience with Zelda. There's some very quirky little things to this game, but overall I'm enjoying it immensely and am anxious to see how this stacks up to the rest of the series. The only gripe I have so far is how droningly long it takes for things to pick up from the beginning (it was over an hour). I do love story development in a game, but Christ, GET ON WITH IT SOMETIMES, you know?

Argus Zephyrus

Majora's Mask is probably the most original, most atmospheric Zelda game that's been made.

For the Zelda series as a whole I'd like to see Nintendo do 1 of 2 things, either make serious trilogies/dualogies of games with the same Zelda and link in an on going story; or make each game a self contained "legend" and do why different things with the setting characters. Like actually have Link get romantic with 1 of the girls or have Link be an Aang like character who always knew that he'd have to go through all this or have him be older and work as child Zelda's bodyguard. You know, mix things up a bit, give us discussion choices and ways to interact with the people of the world so we can care about them. I need no time line if they gave the characters more character and voices. Also the music needs to be orcastrated because having games which all you do is shoot 10000 guys in the face have more character development and better music than a story based game is pretty pathetic.

CC
06-05-2010, 03:56 PM
Those images rock! I agree that Majora's Mask is probably the most unique of the series; the developers definitely pulled no punches with its production. And I also agree whole-heartedly that creating a continuity in the series would be a welcome gesture. Seriously, how many times do we need to keep jumping forward and backward through the centuries with these games to keep reliving the same events over and over again? Sure, the games are great, but in the story department they do get somewhat redundant.

Did you know the whole reason for Majora's Mask's structure is because Ocarina of Time was such a huge hit Nintendo wanted a fallow up pronto! So it's set in an alternate universe so they could just reuse most of the character models but still have a bunch of new people with different personalities. As for the whole time thing well, if you think about it there really isn't a whole lot of "new" content; all you have is 4 dungeons plus the moon and that's it. It the game mechanics worked like the other installments without a time limit you could blow thru MM rather fast like. But the ticking clock makes you have to manage your time and discover events that only happen on a particular day at a certain time.

That's exactly how Spirit Tracks feels compared to Phantom Hourglass. At first, I admit I was kinda disappointed they were simply going to reuse the same graphics from the previous game like they did with OoT and MM, but it feels right at home. And there's many similarities, too. Four temples/regions connected by one hub in the very middle of the map, musical instrument(s), reused character models (most of whom are different characters in the game though), reused music in various places, crisper graphics, most of the music is superior to previous game (that's mainly just my opinion though), child Link, no Ganon or Ganon reference, and there's plenty more that I'll think of later. If there was a time limit in this game, I'd call it a full-fledged MM ripoff. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Only one I don't care for in that pic is Nabooru actually :/ She looks better Ocarina-of-Time'd. And I think whoever drew that picture must have some pretty wild fantasies just waiting to reveal themselves ;)

Plus, okay, I've just completed all four temples in Spirit Tracks, and I just got past the final floor of the Spirit Tower. Holy wowzermonjonsicals, that game has some tricky puzzles! The Fire Temple and Spirit Tower's final floor took me FOREVER to procure my way through. I won't spoil anything for those who haven't played it yet, but those places are no walk in the park. I was a little spoiled by the overall ease of Phantom Hourglass and its cookie-cutter-in-comparison puzzles. Anybody who's expecting more of the same here is in for a rude awakening. But so far, I'm loving this awesome game, and honestly I never once doubted it. I knew it would be something awesome, and it's had me hooked from the moment I first sat down to play it. And I don't know what it isbe it the lightheartedness of the story or just the overall charm it possessesbut playing makes me feel happy, whether I'm in a great mood or a rotten mood; Spirit Tracks is one of my favorite games now.

Now I'm SUPER anxious to find out more about their upcoming Zelda game. So far I've never once encountered a Zelda that let me down. Keep 'em coming, Nintendo.

All of those are done by Adella (Sarah Quillian) (http://adella.deviantart.com/) I don't really know her all that well but in the few minor posts and comments we've had toghether she's real sweet. Though recently she got sick and in needing money has to sell several of her dresses including her prized Belle Gown.

She has said that her persona "Adella" isn't an Aerith or Malon based OC but instead one based off of Belle form Beauty and the Beast which she made when she was young. I think she just has something for girls with M shaped bangs.

And ya, that last image is one of the most romantic things I've seen and it's with my favorite Zelda maiden too.

Argus Zephyrus

Tom Toonami Tunes

It's Malon. While she does love Marin, Malon is her ultimate Zelda girl for Link.

I also have a modest collection of Link & Malon, most of which is probably the same stuff you have. a few years ago Adella held a Link x Malon contest to get more artwork of that pairing.

Malon's polygon model was hella stacked on the n64. I wish they kept her all curvy, it makes sense for her to have big boobs seeing as how you get milk from her and her diet would mainly be dairy, eggs, & other such foods but she's a hard worker so she'd be toned but have a little somethin' somethin'. Princess Ruto shouldn't have boobs 'cause she's a fish and fish ain't got juggs.

WHenever I had to replay something in MM unless I didn't have the time I always saved Romani and then did the Cremia wagon thing.

[protip] You don't have to ride epona when killing the aliens just stand close to the barn and play the time song so time is running at regular speed which makes the aliens move faster but you'll only need to do this for about 7 minutes instead of twice that at half time. Also wear the Ingo mask and the other 2 brothers won't attack the wagon. Not that they're any real threat to begin with.

I've always wondered what Link thinks of Saria.
It's not like he does anything with her. He saves her because he has to, he pays her a visit in the Lost Woods because she nags him.
Why exactly does he hesitate to leave when she says goodbye to him as he leaves the Kokiri Forest to go to the le Castle? Did he really feel bad because he likes her or he just didn't know what to say but didn't really care? He would have kept going and not said a single thing to her if she didn't stop him.

Who knows.

Very good points Argus; I've never even given that any consideration. You can tell they've been friends for a good long time, but it seems like one of those situations where even though Link is growing apart from her, he still interacts with her out of habit more than anything; I have a few friends like that myself, so I know how it feels. You talk to them because you feel obliged to, for no other reason than you're used to it and can't break the habit. I always thought Zelda storylines didn't go too far beyond skin deep with regards to the complexity of various character traits, relationships and world events, but you (Argus) and Tom both look a lot further into the fundamentals of stories that I consider rather simple and I commend you for that; very good thinking. People like you help the creative process progress :D

I haven't done anything. T_T

I'm still trying to resurrect my imagination from its grave. I'd say I've made about 20% progress in the past three years, lol.

Spoilered for personal irrelevance.

I'm going to need it, too, if I am going to go down the Master of Fine Arts road. My original plan was to be Ph.D in industrial biochemistry, but after five years of chemistry classes, I'm sick of it and want to kill myself in the most brutal and graphic manner possible then have my remains fired into the center of the galaxy - the closest supermassive black hole.
Or rather, I don't think I'll be happy working in a laboratory the rest of my life, lol. I certainly don't want to be a teacher, hell no.
I remember taking a test many years ago, and it more or less shows what one's strengths are, and for me, the pie chart had seriously disproportionate chunks for sciences and the arts, arts being the bigger of the two.
I don't know, I love drawing and painting and would be happy as a graphic designer or something, but I do love investigation once I get off my lazy ass, which is what science is and I love it.

Seems ceramic engineering may be the best route that incorporates both art and science, so all that chemistry doesn't go to waste. =]
Fuck yeah.
