There've been rumors swirling around about a sequel to Capcom's superhero-flavored fighter Marvel vs Capcom 2 pretty much since the game arrived 10 years ago. And given Capcom's recent success with a Street Fighter revival -- not to mention the sales rampage of MvC2 on XBLA and PSN -- the sequel rumormill has once again begun turning furiously. This week's press-only Captivate event in Hawaii, held yearly by the Japanese publisher, is said to have showcased just such a sequel in Marvel vs Capcom 3 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, claims PlanetXbox360. At the same event, a sequel to Bionic Commando: Rearmed is alleged to have been announced, though no details are given.

According to the report, MvC3 will receive a retail release and will run in "full 1080p." Allegedly, while the full character list is unknown, some have been confirmed. "Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm, and a few others will be back; but the team behind MvC3 have said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes," the piece claims. Rather than sticking with 2D graphics of MvC2, the rumored sequel is said to mix Street Fighter IV's graphical style with the last Marvel vs Capcom game's 2D style. The piece finally claims we'll hear more about the title next week and it'll even be playable at E3 in June. When we reached out to Capcom for comment, we were told, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors."

On the right side, from top down, we have Dante, either Rad Spencer (Bionic Commando) or Frank West, Captain America, and Felicia.

On the left, from top to bottom, we have Super Skrull, Dormammu or Ghost Rider, possibly Trish, Chun Li, and of course Deadpool.

Another game stupid Nintendo isn't getting. If I had a nickle for every game that was relested on every platform but the Nintendo 64/Cube I could buy a PS or XBox and play them. seriously what's up with this? Sometimes even the gameboy gets titles before the consuls do, Mayamoto said he'd never alllow such filth like Grand Theft Auto to appear on any nintendo product and so far about 6 gameboy/ DS titles have been made.

From these gameplay clips it looks like it's gonna have quite a lot of personality. Looks good so far to me! Should be damn fun.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 looks awesome. And that's the key word. Looks. Because SFIV looked like... let's not get into that. The gameplay looks satisfying and if there's a good character roster, high replay value and good online, then I'm definitely sold.

Exactly right, Smarty. The character roster is starting off surprisingly strong(even with the obvious reveals), and while I'm not too thrilled with the art direction(personal preference, ya know), I'm willing to give it a chance.

Unfortunately, looks are all this game has going for it, and that won't help if the gameplay is crap. And unless all of us were at E3 playing the demo, we still have no clue about how that works.

Final analysis: It's not too early to get excited about characters, but it IS too early to get excited about whether the whole game sucks(and DEFINITELY too early to compare it to other games!).

I heard a rumor that a Mega Man X character was suppose to show up in this game. Has anyone been able to confirm or deny this? If they do put an X character in the game, that may make me more inclined to buy it.

*raises hand* Unfortunately, all I've been able to confirm or deny is that we will get an MMX character...that could mean Zero again, some people have speculated that it could mean Axl or Sigma. It does not appear(though I haven't been able to confirm or deny this) that X himself is in the running, though I could very well be wrong.

While I do agree that Servbot has its moments of awesomeness, I have to say that whoever was playing the opposing team had NO idea how to use those characters at all. Only Tron was used well, and that was still iffy.

Still, it does give an indication that Servbot can come in and clean your clock...I just wish they still had the Lunch Rush super that Tron does.

Yeah Akuma leak is backed up by art work discovered in the collector's addition.

Aslong as they make him different to Ryu, then I'm ok with it, apparantly SF3 Akuma is alot different to Ryu.

they have no been revealed, they were on a rumoured list.

However, EVERY other character on that rumoured list got in, so it is very likely we will see Sentinel and Hsien-Ko as the last two characters.

They haven't been revealed so much as leaked (http://shoryuken.com/content/rumor-twitter-account-claims-leaking-marvel-vs-capcom-3-reveal-plans-2773/). This leak has been given some credibility due to confirmation of Phoenix, Haggar, Akuma, and Taskmaster as playable characters (and w/ Akuma & Taskmaster being unlockable).

The boss fight begins with Galactus summoning a silver version either Dormammu, Doom, Wesker or Akuma and then a small while into the fight another one joins the fight so you basically fight two of the four at the same time. They share a health bar so they go down at the same time and then you fight Galactus.

I have no idea, Gamestation have the game for you to play in their store and I have friend to visit so it's not too bad.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 brings the bang for the buck. The costume style graphics of a game arcade, and the number of characters is amazing. Maybe ambushed the user manual, a little fine tuning but besides that this game is worth it. If you are a fan of other games like Street Fighter and other Adventure game, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the game for you!

I doubt, how long has been rumored that I was wrong about it considering it's true. I really, really considering MVC2 is one of the all-time favorite games, so if you were.

Bought this today and played for a couple of hours, only completed the game with Wesker and Tron so far. The in game graphics are superb and it flows brilliantly, the main thing is going to be getting used to the pace of the fights and the different characters. Dante & Chun Li are my early favourites

The most important detail of the game. Gameplay is much more faster than before. when I started playing it. The slower pace and controls made it really difficult for a seasoned veteran of the fighting genre like myself to get into it.

This game seems to have a lot of douches associated to it.

I've come across several idiots who think that they lose to me, it's got to a be a "BS" win. Of course, these same folks are also playing with Sentinel in their arsenal. I don't consider anyone who uses Sentinel a "real" player in this game because the character is still broken as he was in MVC2.

Then you have the other morons who are losing and like to disconnect before the match is over, so I can't collect my win. Oh the joys of the internet and FAIL gamers.

So... Capcom is apparently re-releasing Marvel vs Capcom 3 as "Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/capcom-announces-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3/)".

All I can say is "What the hell?!" They are including a shit ton of new content and not making it available via DLC. You are forced to buy a completely new game at $40. This is the first time I've felt contempt for a gaming company for doing this. This is just absolute trash.

That's why I'm clad I didn't purchase original edition of Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

You guys realize that paying $40 (about �20 in England) is alot cheaper then paying for 12 new DLCs.

Each DLC character costs $5 so 12 x 5 = 60.

So if anything, we're saving money rather then if we had to buy each character seperately.

They should have patched this on the original game for about $20 instead of creating an entirely new game.

They're adding alot though, it's not like street fighter where there were only 4 characters added and an overall balance change, this has 12 new characters and they plan to have some new modes and online spectator mode.

I don't know where all this sentiment comes from like they are evil. You're talking about a company that released 5 versions of Street Fighter 2 in the 90s, each for full price, and none with anywhere near as much new content as UMvC3 is adding, and got away with it. If you want them to keep making fighting games accept that it has to be lucrative for them.

Capitalist companies don't do things that aren't low-ball moves to suck money out of customers. Sucking money out of customers is the whole reason they exist. Creating MvC3 in the first place was a low ball move to suck money out of customers.

They're implementing changes based on what players wanted, they do a huge amount of communication with their fan communities to stay aware, they get involved in and sponsor competitive events for their games... Capcom is a really cool company, as companies go. $40 for a completely overhauled and massively expanded new game doesn't seem that ridiculous to me, and people want it and are going to pay for it, so if Capcom made something people will pay $40 to get a (big) update for, kudos to them. I'm just happy that they are devoted to fighting games again, and that the updates are much cheaper now than they used to be.

Keep in mind that the whole resurgence of fighters at Capcom was nearly a miracle, if Street Fighter 4 hadn't done well it would have probably been over forever. The fact that the game was very profitable is why we keep getting new games. If Ono and company can't keep convincing the suits at Capcom that they're going to keep raking in the bucks by making more of this stuff, it's going to dry up again.

I really am pleased with the fighting game news this year, Street Fighter gets a new version (and has a free rebalance planned for the end of this year) Marvel Vs Capcom 3 gets a new version, there's Mortal Kombat 9, Street Fighter X Tekken is getting closer and closer, they've teased a new Dark Stalkers and my favourite fighting series Blazblue has a new version of Continuum Shift on the way with a new character + rebalance.

I hope this keeps up.
