Why the heck does Sin attack Dream Zanarkand, when we just start this game up, if Sin was created as a SHIELD to protect Yevon so he could SUMMON Dream Zanarkand? Is this ever explained and I'm just forgetting it all like the idiot I am?
Because seriously. What's the point in that? I mean, I get it, getting in touch with Tidus to transport him to Spira (1000 years in the future) so he could fight, yeah, but WHY destroy what you're summoning in the process? I mean how many Fayths did it take to make Dream Zanarkand? And not only that, the whole summoning of the city wiped off Yevon's mind (and no, that can't explain it getting insane and smashing it, because yes it wiped off its... human part, but it DID leave the /will to survive/, that what makes Sin recreate itself every time, and /protect Zanarkand/, that's what makes Sin fight and all) so why just go KABOOM on it?

Wasn't it because all the city dwellers had gotten lazy and gorged on life's pleasures too often? That's the only thing I actually remember...something like that. Sin attacked Zanarkand because it was like a manifested hatred?? I forget...been too long since I played it.

Thanks for the replies guys... but as far as I can remember those were the reasons Sin attacks the real world, Spira, you know? To prevent people from building machinas strong enough to take him down... the whole Zanarkand being destroyed because of people getting lazy is a lie. Sin exists to protect it... well, the dream version of it. Dream Zanarkand is supposed to preserve itself in time, right? It was summoned as a dream because it got destroyed by Bevelle and summoning a dream version of it was the only way to make it live eternally. Yevon didn't really have anything against machinas...
Hmmm I don't know. It just bugs me to no end because the story seemed to make 100% sense to me before and now I just don't know anymore, ahah... Thank you again, guys :)

So I think I have an explanation with one hole that you might be able to fill.
It said that Jecht had begun to exert some influence on Sin itself. Perhaps it caused Sin to come and attack dream zanarkand so that tidus could destroy sin.
then that begs the question of how jecht got into spira.

^Same way Tidus went to Spira -- Sin carried him off there. Sin is the link between Dream Zanarkand and Spira.

I thought that too. Isn't that the reason and also the reason people hated the al Bhed so much?

Yu Yevon isn't the one summoning Dream Zanarkand.

Over 1000 years ago, warriors of Bevelle attacked summoners of Zanarkand with their machine weapons. In that battle a summoner named Yu Yevon got killed, but refused to die, and kept "living" only to continue summoning. But not dream Zanarkand, he's summoning death armor later known as Sin (or Shin in Japanese meaning Death). Dream Zanarkand was summoned by Faith. I think that Bahamut Faith explained this.

Spot on from what I can understand, it has nothing to do with Sin/Jecht, but Yu Yevon refusing to die, refusing to give up in the war with the summoners. He used all the summoners and their fayth to create Sin.

As for the "sleeping", they have been summoning for Yu Yevon for 1000 years and are tired.

I thought it was because Jecht/Sin wanted to take Tidus to Spira. As for why he destroyed Zanarkand in the process........ I dunno. Maybe he was just in a bad mood?

Also, "Shi" in Japanese means "death". "Shin" is how the Japanese spell the English word, "Sin".
