Hello everyone, brand new poster, loving this website.
I've been pretty much a SEGA guy since the genesis til the dreamcast and finally broke down and bought the ps2, and all the consoles of this generation.
Right now I have an opportunity to play tunes for 2 hours a week on an internet radio station. most of my show is britpop/indie/showgaze and some gothy stuff. I'm also including some video game tunes most likely RPG stuff and strategy. I do like the orchestral scores and other stuff like shmups (TF2&3)., or good adventure games. Anything that takes you back to the good old days.
So, since being a SEGA head, I've only really been exposed to some of the Genesis stuff, my favorite series is Lunar so I'm planning on playing a track here and there, Saturn, and some Dreamcast. Yes, I missed out on all those great RPGS on the Nintendo systems, and most of the PS2 stuff.
So, I am asking for some recommendations on what soundtracks I should be checking out and playing. Most likely I have about 3 songs in a 2 hour set dedicated to videogames. This week I have the title track from Cadash, 1 Lunar HSS , 1 Ghouls and Ghost, and 1 track from Ocarina of Time (I still have to listen to the whole thing). Next week I'm going to play a track from GrimGrimoire. Let me know what to check out cause I've missed out. Thanks everyone!

hello, sega-head :)

Well, I'm looking over my stash here, and there's a lot to play. It seems you're an rpg fan by what you've been playing, so I'll start with the SNES and 3 snes RPGs. I suggest "fear of the heavens" from secret of mana, "peaceful days" and/or "frog's theme" from chrono trigger, and for a more lighthearted feel, fourside from earthbound. On the ps1, just about any song from final fantasy 7 will do the job, though my faves are tifa's, aeris' and cid's themes, as well as the main theme to the game.

If you wanna go for a nostalgic feeling, try running world 1-1 music from ol' SMB on the NES.

By the way, if you don't have any of these OSTs, you'll find them on our happy little community :)

Enjoy the music!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check them out. I played some Chrono Trigger 3 years ago and was having a good time until I just didn't have any time for it. I'll hunt down those tracks, this site is the greatest.

This may be more than what you're looking for, but for a couple years we've been working on a thread that links to soundtracks that are the classics for each generation of consolesthat is, the video game music canon (Thread 54768). In the list's current state, it has a lot more Nintendo than Genesis, so that may appeal to you. As for where to start, I agree with recorderdude that you should definitely check out Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VII, and Super Mario Bros. Those are widely considered some of the best soundtracks from the 80s/90s. After those, I can point you in the right direction if you like. I'm happy to help. Welcome to the Shrine. :)

Nice! I definitely want to use songs people recognize and cherish so the canon thread will help out much. It's also fun to transition between video game songs and "real" songs so no one is none the wiser. Thanks AG.

Ah, sneaking in video game music into other programming. I gotcha. Would you prefer recommendations that are remixes, covers, vocal versions, or orchestral versions?

I like the orchestral versions, vocal versions if they were like Shoko Minami's Feena (hopefully as long as it's not too j-pop). So far I've got MegaDriver's Altered Beast - [Rise From Your Grave] ready for my next show. As long as it's recognizable I kinda want people to say "wait, is that really ***?", but right now I think I'm going to try to focus more on the original versions. The DJ right after me loves the Earthbound soundtrack, so I have to hunt that down and play it right before him. I think game music can blend pretty well to all types of music, so this is going to be fun. Thanks!

Anything from Thunder Force II, III or IV, or by Hyakutaro Tsukumo. Awesome rock jams.
