Movie (and T.V.) News You Can Use!

or!

Movie Blues You Can Lose!

Ok, so here it is, the news.

Warning!
This could also be non-news.

Hours ago (internet hours could be like dog years!) someone rumored that Gremlins could be up for a sequel. Or was it a prequel? It doesn't matter because this story is bunk!
"A few days ago, I saw Steve Spielberg, and I asked him the question you just asked me, because I was reading something on the Internet and he said, "Nobody's talked to me about it either." So maybe it's going on behind our backs" said Chris Columbus who served as writer on the previous two films.
But!
This did lead to Goonies sequel news:
"I'd love to see another Goonies movie out there, people ask me about it all the time. The kids would have to be the parents, and their kids would be the Goonies. We just need something, as Steven said the other day, he said, "How do you beat finding an entire pirate ship filled with treasure underground? What can be as exciting?" So we have to come up with something that can be equally as exciting," says Columbus.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief coming soon to threaten Harry Potter's #1 fantasy for adolescents status. Harry doesn't seem scared. Spielberg's beard was unavailable for comment at press time.

Here's the new Trailer for "Earthling," it's indie Sci-Fi:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8R2I3W0Gtg

Here's a new photo of "the dude" Jeff Bridges (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000313/) in Tron Legacy.

Are you excited yet? Me neither.

Captain America (very mild) Spoilers!

Joe Johnston (Wolfman, Jumanji, Co-designer of Boba Fett) director of captain America isn't shy about spilling a few red white and blue beans!

"The costume is a flag, but the way we're getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit," Johnston said. "After he's made into this super-soldier, they decide they can't send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He's the only one and they can't make more. So they say, 'You're going to be in this USO show' and they give him a flag suit. He can't wait to get out of it."

He added that "When he does go AWOL, he covers up the suit but then, after a few things happen, he realizes that this uniform allows him to lead. By then, he's become a star in the public mind and a symbol. The guys get behind him because he embodies something special."

Which leads to a new costume: "In the first USO sequences, the frustrated patriot will be wearing a version that is closer to the classic Jack Kirby-designed costume, but then later as the super-soldier hits the war zone he will be wearing a sturdier, more muted version that he makes himself that is more like battle togs. The stripes across his mid-section, for instance, will be straps, not colored fabric."

Ryan McPartlin is rumored up for the role of Cappy. I don't know him either because I never watch Chuck.

:ohgod:
Blazing Hot Batman News!

Batman 3 is coming and you will see it. Who could be writing it?
David Goyer and the director's brother Jonah Nolan!
If you avoided Goyer's (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0333060/) Blade 3 count yourself among the very lucky!

"As we know, David Goyer's departure from running "FlashForward" last week was due to commitments to film projects. Now comes word that one of those projects is the third Chris Nolan "Batman" film along with Jonah Nolan..." More? Sucker. (http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/flashforward-showrunner-exits-for-features/#more-24745)

Daredevil news? What? (http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/exclusive-latest-marvel-hero-to-reboot/)

Fox owns the rights to the blind vigilante lawyer in red tights. If they want to retain these rights they have to at least act like they are working on it.
So they hired some dude you've never heard of named David Scarpa (The Day The Earth Stood Still, The Last castle) to write it.
Ben Affleck? Nope, this will be a Spider-Manesque reboot.

GREEN LANTERN NEWS!!!
Susan Sarandon's ex-manwife Tim Robbins signs on the dotted line with AOLTIMEWARNER to pretend to be a Senator.

"Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who activates his psychic powers.
Ryan Reynolds stars as Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as the hero's love interest, Carol Ferris."

Deadpool the Merc with a Mouth is still coming.

Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still working on cracking the hopefully hilarious script with ex-heart throb Ryan Reynolds to be a spin-off of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Deadpool fans generally were dismayed at X-Men Origins: Wolverine's treatment of the beloved wise cracking mercenary, so let's all hope this does the B-list Marvel character some justice.

"We're outlining it pretty seriously right now," spoke Reese. "Were in the early stages."

"We just absolutely adore the character and the comic," quipped Wernick. "And tonally, it's right up our alley. He's the unstable, smart-ass, self deprecating guy and they say write what you know, so [we're perfect for it]."

"One of the nice things about working with Ryan is that he tonally gets it if we ever do something that is off the Deadpool path, or if it doesn't feel like Deadpool, he catches it," relates Reese. From here<---<<< (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/02/08/deadpool-writers-on-working-with-ryan-reynolds-if-it-doesnt-feel-like-deadpool-he-catches-it/#more-28940)

Johnny Depp is threatening to direct again?

"Now that I'm wiser, and that enough time has passed, I can experience directing again," said Depp. "Already next week I'll start working on a Keith Richards documentary. While I'm in Drvengrad, my editor is already working on kilometers of archive footage and footage of his concerts. I'm very touched that Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras."

More Depp, please. (http://www.latinoreview.com/news/is-depp-back-to-directing-9121)

Neil Gaiman/Dr. Who re-united!

It has been rumored for months. Niel wrote something for Dr. Who and selfish old BBC wont let you see it.
I fallow Neil Gaiman's not so spooky blog (http://journal.neilgaiman.com/) sometimes, so I know this.

"As anyone whos read my blog knows, Im a big fan of a certain long-running British SF TV series. One that started watching from behind the sofa when I was three. And while I know its cruel to make you wait for things, in about 14 months from now, which is to say, NOT in the upcoming season but early in the one after that, its quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called 'The House of Nothing'. But it definitely isnt called that any more." He said it here. More Captain America and Spidey Reboot News!

According to MY studio guy, the rumors about Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck), Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) and other unknowns/television actors reading for Cap are true.

Apparently, when the script came in with World War II sequences (featuring the Invaders), the studio heads decided it was beyond their means to make this movie AND afford A-listers like Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

Sure sounds like everyone’s high on McPartlin, who evidently just lost out on the Superman role to Brandon Routh.

As for Spidey, the Logan Lerman rumors are just that … rumors. Apparently Sony is waiting for James Vanderbilt’s script to come in (he’s balking on whether Peter Parker is still in school or just out). And they haven’t even come to terms with director Marc Webb yet.

Can you say LIVE ACTION STAR WARS!
I just did and any news excites me!!!
If you don't already know a LIVE action STAR WARS series for TV is in the works. It has been for years now. This story has a tidbit that jibes with something producer Rick McCallum has said before and often; Boba Fett will be in it!

George Lucas' live-action Star Wars TV series is still moving forward in Australia, and little clues are slowly popping up here and there as to which characters will turn up, and which Star Wars film will it most emulate.

Author Karen Traviss announced a while back that she is no longer writing her long-awaited Boba Fett novel. The author explained that contract issues were getting in the way of her story line, and it seems like what she was planning for Boba Fett, and what Lucas was planning on his new TV series, conflicted.

Yes, the Boba Fett novel was canceled by the publisher because of potential canon clashes with the upcoming TV series, as you have already heard from other sources. No, I really don't have a clue what those clashes might be. Sorry.

We can only assume that Traviss was planning to base her portrayal of Boba Fett on the canon already established in the six movies — and the TV series is planning to make some major change, or addition, to that canon. Still, this means more Boba on the screen, which is always a good thing.

So where is this new series set? According to Wookiepedia (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_live-action_TV_series) and The Celebrity Cafe (http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/live-action-%E2%80%98star-wars%E2%80%99-show-still-trudging-02-07-2010), it takes place in the "dark times" between the last prequel and A New Hope. And if you remember, that's when most of the Jedi and anti-emperor politicians were hunted down and killed. It's being toted as a gritty and dark series, which will star many minor characters as we now know Boba Fett, but also C-3PO, and Emperor Palpatine (nothing has been officially confirmed yet).

As far as past Star Wars characters like Han, Luke and Leia, Mark Hamill says he doesn't think there would be a role for him as in this time period Luke would be even younger than he was in A New Hope. But the actor did praise the decision to return to focusing on the story, instead of the sizzle of CG FX and tedious lightsaber fights.

In an interview with Total Film Magazine ( ) Lucas explained that it would be more like the original than the prequels, "

It's [a] lot more talky. It's more of what I would call a soap opera with a bunch of personal dramas in it. It's not really based on action-adventure films from the '30s - it's actually more based on film noir movies from the '40s!"

And, of course, they won't have Star Wars-type funds to make everything CG, so hopefully this will reinforce the "story comes first" motto.

From your interweb friends @ io9 (http://io9.com/5467159/live+action-star-wars-series-is-leaking-details)
and
here too. (http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/live-action-%E2%80%98star-wars%E2%80%99-show-still-trudging-02-07-2010)

Wait, there's more!
theForce.net adds

io9.com has posted a new article about leaked details of the upcoming live-action series. Before you get all excited, please bear in mind a couple of things:

1. Though we're fans of io9, this new article really just re-hashes info we already know such as the time-frame of the series and lack of Jedi.

2. While speaking of the whole Karen Traviss situation, the writer may have gotten the live-action series confused with The Clone Wars. Sure their may have been eventual cannon issues with Boba Fett in the live-action series as there were in the Mando revisions in TCW, but I thought it was The Clone Wars issues that caused the "Travissty" of a situation. Either way, what's done is done. Traviss is no longer a Star Wars writer and the Mandalorians seem to be doing quite fine in the hands of Lucas and Filoni. FEEL the force flow through you. If you thought that Blazing hot Batman 3 news was something, this is a Kryptonian supernona!

Chris Nolan helmer of batman The Dark Knight is taking responsibility for the Superman Returns sequel as "Godfather."

"EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros is trying to ready its DC Comics stalwart Superman to soar again on the Big Screen, and the studio has turned to Chris Nolan to mentor development of the movie. Our insiders say that the brains behind rebooted Batman has been asked to play a "godfather" role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus. Nolan's leadership of the project can set it in the right direction with the critics and the fans, not to mention at the box office. Besides, Nolan is considered something of a god at and has a strong relationship with Warner Bros after the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Though he wasnt obligated to do so, he gave the studio first crack at his spec script Inception, and Warner Bros was able to buy it before other studios even got a sniff. While Nolan completes that Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer for a July 16th release, he's also hatched an idea for Warner Bros' third Batman installment. Now his brother and frequent collaborator Jonah Nolan, and David Goyer who co-wrote Batman Begins and penned the story for The Dark Knight, are off scripting it."

"Let us emphasize that Superman 3.0 is in the early stages of development. And we doubt Nolan would direct. This wouldn't be a sequel to Superman Returns but a completely fresh franchise. As one of our insiders reassures: It would definitely not be a followup to Superman Returns." Nolan coming on board follows a hiatus period for Superman after that 2006 reboot as the studio tried to figure out whether or not to make a sequel to that version starring Brandon Routh directed by Bryan Singer. As recently as this summer, Warner Bros was still contemplating how to proceed. We were told that "Bryan or Brandon are not completely out of it yet. But Warner Bros doesn't have a handle yet on it, either. [Producer] Jon Peters is trying to make something happen since he stands to benefit financially. But they [the studio] need to hear a great story that makes sense." Another insider explained to us, "We know what we don't want to do. But we don't know what we want to do. We learned a lot from the last movie, and we want to get it right this time.""

The Link (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2010/02/new-batman-dvd-to-peek-out-from-under-the-red-hood.html)

Forthcoming Animated "Batman: Under the Red Hood"

Written by Judd Winick and based on his 2005 Batman comics story line, it's Batman versus another vigilante, Red Hood, who doesn't mind cleaning up Gotham by leaving dead bodies in his wake. Animated guru Bruce Timm exec produces this pretty violent look into crime on the streets, and it's directed by "Superman Doomsday" co-director Brandon Vietti, with a cavalcade of stars as voice talent. It all starts with Bruce Greenwood ("Star Trek") as Batman, then continues with "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles as Red Hood, Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother") as Nightwing, John DiMaggio ("Futurama") as the Joker and Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter films) as Ra's Al Ghul.

I'm Batman.

Spider-Man News, yawn.
O.K. so Spider-Man has a date a new announcement that it will be in 3-D.
July 2, 2012 you can put on your 3-D specs and watch Peter Parker's new cinematic adventure at a higher ticket price with gimmicky in your face action.
Yawn.

Commenting on the announcement, "kiss-ass" Blake said, "Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc's fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise." and then I fell asleep.

Groovy.

The Escape from New York remake is still happening? Really?

“It is not a disaster movie,” says a source close to the project. “It is an expos of an ecosystem, if you put a huge wall around Manhattan and then dropped in the most fucked-up, dangerous criminals on Earth.” This means New York will still be recognizable to audiences, la I Am Legend, rather than an entirely new Armageddon Island. (Previous scribe David Kajganich, who wrote The Invasion, is credited with this solution.)

Much like in the original movie, the authorities have set up shop in the Statue of Liberty (though this time it's not the police, it's a private, KBR-like security company)*, and now new prisoners are being processed through Ellis Island. And more importantly, good ol' Snake remains largely the same. Legally, he has to be. We learned that in order to land the rights, New Line had to sign a contract with John Carpenter stipulating, among other things, that Plissken "must be called 'Snake'"; "must wear an eye patch"; and that he would — and we're not making this up — "always be a 'bad-ass.'"; So, if you ever catch the new Snake watching Grey’s Anatomy or complaining that the senator isn't "emotionally available," just know that somewhere, some poor development exec is about to be carted off to jail.

Stan Lee Twitters and THE WORLD STANDS BREATHLESS!

Yeah...Stan "the man" Lee has lunch with Edgar Wright and it makes news all over the internets like we didn't already know he was supposed to make an ANT-MAN movie.

To make up for my previous grievous error, here's a little item that may have escaped you. Marvel is prepping a movie starring-- Ant Man!
...
I had lunch with the cool, young director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and, as you'd imagine, we had fun discussing the tiny hero
Hank Pym will get his day soonish. Meanwhile look out for the highly anticipated fallow up to Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Dethlok and Robocop Cybernetic nightmares any year now:

David Self:

I'm still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky's still involved with it," Self said. "He's making another movie right now ('Black Swan'), but we're waiting for MGM to sort things out since they're a larger corporate and it's a situation where we have to be practical. We're waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon."

He added that the film is "definitely not a sequel. It's an origin story, it's an origin to the original RoboCop. It's basically a 'reboot.'"

One project that doesn't look to be going anywhere right now is the adaptation of Marvel's Deathlok.

"I don't know what’s going with that movie honestly," Self added. "I haven't talked to the producers recently about that. I did a rewrite on it several years ago and it shows up on my IMDb all the time. It's been a long while since I worked on it, but I would love to see that happen soon. I love that story and I love that character."

Robocop / Dethlok news ahoy! (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=9062)

Chase Palmer has been hired to work on the "Dune" script for director Pierre Morel at Paramount.
I don't know how serious Universal is about this project. It's been kicking around for a while now. The recent news of yet another new director and now a new writer does put positive note to this re-adaptation.

"National Lampoon's" Vacation Get Rebooted?
Nothing gets left alone these days.

New Line is booking a reboot of its "Vacation" franchise and has tapped Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write the newest incarnation. The latest project, which will no longer carry the National Lampoon credit, is being described as more of an update than a sequel and will be closer in tone to "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" than the previous chapters. Story will focus on Rusty Griswold, now a grown man, who decides to take his own wife and kids on a road trip to Wally World before it closes forever. Chase is not attached at this time to reprise his role as Clark Griswold, now a grandfather. "Wedding Crashers" helmer David Dobkin is producing the new pic.

Can you say LIVE ACTION STAR WARS!
I just did and any news still excites me!!!
As reported earlier Boba Fett looks like he's gonna be in the as of yet untitled Star Wars live action Television series.
Karen Traviss, a disgruntled ex-writer of expanded universe books, spills some beans. Speaking to io9dotcom about her canceled Commando and Boba Fett books:

io9 - You also mentioned a Boba Fett novel that you're not going to do now. That's a separate book from the final Imperial Commando book, right? You mentioned that was also cancelled because of canon clashes with the upcoming TV series does that mean Clone Wars, or the new live-action show?
Karen - Yes, the Boba Fett book was totally separate, nothing to do with Imperial Commando. The cancellation was due to the live action show, but that's all I know.
So there you have it.

TERMINATOR NEWS.

William Wisher (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0936537/) (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The 13th Warrior ) says:

As a Terminator fanboy myself, I think Wisher has done a terrific job with a plot that accepts the storylines from Jonathan Mostow's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and McG's Terminator: Salvation. Most interestingly, he turns the story back to the core characters and time travel storyline of the first two films that Wisher crafted with Cameron... Wisher presents a satisfying conclusion to what by then would be a 6-picture struggle between Skynet's machines and John and Sarah Connor to preserve a future that allows mankind to prevail over the machines. I'd pay to see these movies.

Captain America is a Human Torch! (http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/03/evans-accepts-captain-america-mantle.html)

Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America.

Sources tell us the actor has not only accepted Marvel's offer, first detailed on Friday, but that the dealmaking moved so fast it's now all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

Marvel would not comment on the development, and CAA, which reps the actor, declined comment.

Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios' production last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in Fox's "Fantastic Four" movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part?

Evans took a few days to think it over, and once he decided he was willing to wield the shield, negotiations moved quickly over the weekend.

I really wonder why studios have been so big on using the same people for comic movies. He's already been the Human Torch and has The Losers coming up. Still, he's a pretty good choice. My top pick would've been Mark Valley but since they were set on a younger Cap that wasn't going to happen.

Angela Bassett is going to be Amanda Waller in Green Lantern. I love Amanda Waller, but man, she looks nothing like Angela Bassett apart from them both being black. She's a good actress though so I'm sure it'll work.

Boba Fett is also going to be in this season's CG Clone Wars.
Daniel Logan will voice him. I sure Hope it's Daniel who plays live action Boba and not Tamura Morrison. Tamura was great in "Once Were Warriors" but every other thing I've seen him in he's been dry stiff and pretty bored sounding.

The bending effects look great but the monsters only so-so and every thing looks like a cheep 300 plus the fight choreography seems like it's been simplified. The biggest thing though is that it looks all super grim dark serous when the show has quite a bit of light hearted funny moments in it.

I've been avoiding reading too much spoilery info but I do want to know how they're gonna do Thor a supernatural character when in general they've avoided the supernatural and fantastical in Marvel movies, I.E. Galactus not a giant guy, the Phoenix was just Jean, no real sentinels, the Mandarin will probably not be a wizard, Vemon down played, Peter Parker wasn't a super genius.

I don't think Marvel owns the rights to the current series of X-Men movies, so they couldn't use them in their movieverse. They'd be able to use First Class characters, though honestly I think the X-Men work better when they're separate from the rest of the Marvelverse.

Tommy Lee Jones is in Cap:

As rumored, Tommy Lee Jones will act in Captain America: The First Avenger in a still-unknown role. Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter in the Joe Johnston-directed comic book adaptation, confirmed the news to LeicesterSquareTV. You can watch their interview with Atwell using the player below. They start talking about "Captain America" around the 2:20 mark.

Rumors place the "Men in Black" star in the part of General Chester Phillips, the military officer who chooses Steve Rogers for the super soldier program and who aided in his training soon after the serum took effect.

Phillips was retconned into continuity in "Tales of Suspense #63" in 1965, just two years after Captain America was brought to Marvel's forefront as the leader of the Avengers. Phillips remained a character in the Marvel universe until 2003 when he (now retired) was killed by assassins from the underwater rival-to-Atlantis continent Lemuria.

In addition to Atwell, Jones is joining Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson and Dominic Cooper in the July 22, 2011 release. Guillermo Del Toro Says THE HOBBIT Is Not Greenlit, Not Currently Planned For 3D! (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45275)

Q: We've been following your production of THE HOBBIT, and every time the production gets delayed. Do you know when you're actually going to start and get on set?

Guillermo del Toro: There cannot be any start dates really until the MGM situation is resolved, because they do hold a considerable portion of the rights, and it's impossible to make a unilateral decision by New Line or Warners to give the greenlight to proceed. We really believe that things will be known after the fact of MGM's fate. Whether they stay and get supported, or they get bought, or they transfer some of the rights: nobody knows. We've been caught in a very tangled negotiation.

Now I've been on the project for nearly two years. We have designed all the creatures; we have designed the sets and wardrobes; we have done animatics and planned very lengthy action sequences and scary sequences and funny sequences. We are very, very prepared for when it's finally triggered, but we don't know anything is sold.

Ryan Reynolds is playing Hal (the pilot).

Guy Gardner is my favorite Green Lantern but they would've butchered him in a movie so it's good they're not using him. I'm not a huge Hal fan and I would've loved it if they'd gone with John (Marine/Architect/the black one) or Kyle (the artist) because they have the best constructs, but it'll be fine. Depending on how much they use the Corps in the movie they could all be showing up anyways, and the writers can make Hal more creative than he usually is in the comics.

Mostly I'm just excited about seeing lantern constructs in 3D. ^^

In poor Hal's defense it doesn't really seem that in character for him to make awesome things like mech constructs. I saw him make a bear once, that was kind of cool.

Even if his constructs are boring I am pretty sure they won't look boring seeing them on a big screen for the first time. I am easier to please with this stuff than I might seem. :)

Guillermo Leaves The Hobbit!??

Guillermo del Toro leaves 'The Hobbit'

~ After spending the last two years developing "The Hobbit" as his latest directing project, Guillermo del Toro has announced he is leaving the helm of the J. R. R. Tolkien adaptation.

“In light of ongoing delays in the setting of a start date for filming “The Hobbit,” I am faced with the hardest decision of my life,” Guillermo wrote in his announcement on "Lord of the Rings" fansite TheOneRing.net. “After nearly two years of living, breathing and designing a world as rich as Tolkien’s Middle Earth, I must, with great regret, take leave from helming these wonderful pictures."

He said he would continue to co-write the screenplays with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillippa Boyens.

The walls started to crumble for del Toro in recent weeks as the uncertain future of MGM put the project, which was to have been two movies, in a limbo state. The producers had been hoping to be in production this summer but no greenlight was forthcoming.

That put pressure del Toro, who has a laundry list of development projects outlined for the next 10 years, in a position of cutting bait or staying on for more uncertainty. The director moved his wife and children to New Zealand for the shoot, and the first movie was aiming for a December 2012 release.

"The blessings have been plenty, but the mounting pressures of conflicting schedules have overwhelmed the time slot originally allocated for the project," said del Toro in his statement. "Both as a co-writer and as a director, I wish the production nothing but the very best of luck and I will be first in line to see the finished product. I remain an ally to it and its makers, present and future, and fully support a smooth transition to a new director."

Jackson stated he understood del Toro's position: "We understand how the protracted development time on these two films, due to reasons beyond anyone’s control – has compromised his commitment to other long term projects. The bottom line is that Guillermo just didn’t feel he could commit six years to living in New Zealand, exclusively making these films, when his original commitment was for three years."

Jackson said development on "Hobbit" would continue apace, although his statement did not specifically address any possible postponement of the release date.

"New Line and Warner Bros. will sit down with us this week, to ensure a smooth and uneventful transition, as we secure a new director for 'The Hobbit.' We do not anticipate any delay or disruption to ongoing pre-production work," he said.

Official Green Lantern Movie Synopsis Revealed

'Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallaxhe will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

How stupid will Captain America's costume look in IMAX? Those wings on his head seem kind of silly.

CAP'S SUIT SEEN!

(full story link) (http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=32353)

First up there's no hood or wings on his head, rather a "more traditional M1 Army helmet though this helmet does come over the eyes to give Cap a traditional "domino mask" look. Still present is the white "A" in the middle of the hat... the blue of the helmet is much more muted than the blue in the comic costume. A thick black strap comes down over the ears and connects under the chin."

The chest isn't spandex but "more of a leather fabric, like something you'd see on one of the 'X-Men'". Design wise a less prominent white star is there, while "the costume is still split horizontally through the middle with blue on top and red and white stripes on the bottom. But instead of stripes, it's actually just a white base with two red utility straps acting as stripes. These straps affix to a metal loop at the midpoint of the chest and a black strap extends up to the shoulders from that point. His shoulders have pads over them that extend down to about mid-bicep and are attached via a brown strap under the arm. The sleeves are white with a fairly standard brown glove."

The bottom half is blue pants, brown utility boots and an "old school utility belt... made up of brown pockets with a silver buckle." The shield hews closely to the classic design of red/white/red rings with the white star in a blue circle at the middle.

What will you do next now instead of The Hobbit? (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2010/05/guillermo-del-toro-.html)
Guillermo del Toro succinctly replied "TBD very soon!"

Donald Glover is hilarious (check out his stand-up guys) and better than the other names I've seen thrown out, at least. Changing Spidey's race isn't really a huge deal since you wouldn't have to change anything about his backstory. I'd prefer there be some story with a black Spider-man in the comics ala Nick Fury before they did this though, since I'm such a nerd and I want things to have a basis in the comics. ; ;

Also, Donald Glover is too old. They should be looking for an unknown teenager who can act and handle the funny stuff, but they probably won't because Hollywood is poo. :(

Just think about it, Peter's Uncle Ben would be the wild rice guy and Aunt May would be changed to Aunt Jemima both of which are successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists who's work is seriously hindering bot Norman Osborn & Wilson Fisk's evil schemes. So they pull a dick move and take almost everything from them.

Osborn/Green Goblin could be the over arcing villian in the first 3 movies leading up to the bridge incadent in the 3rd and with him dead the main villian would switch to the Kingpen for the last 3. (the 6th movie would be called Spider-man, Sinister 6.)

Additionally, Quesada will provide creative oversight of all areas of Marvel's business including theatrical, television, publishing, animation and games, while also actively participating in all story and script development for Marvel's films and animation. Prior to this promotion, Quesada held the role of Chief Creative Officer & Editor-In-Chief, Marvel Animation & Publishing and oversaw the creative aspects of Marvel Comics and Marvel Animation.

If they had him just working in a marketing type position and removed him from being EIC I'd be fine. I actually think he's pretty good at this stuff even though he makes weird comments to the press- Marvel's market share is always huge even though they usually don't have the top selling comics each month. Things like Deadpool variants are a good move.

But storywise he's never been very good, and he's made some really bad calls. No matter how you feel about Brand New Day, it's made Spidey sales drop. The X-23 prostitute stuff is really weird too and it's so far away from the Kyle and Yost minis that popularized the character.

It's worth mentioning that this is the same position that DC created for Geoff Johns, who created a hugely successful event (Blackest Night) and reinvigorated the Green Lantern comics to the point where both GL and GLC are usually in the top 10 selling comics of each month. I have my complaints against Johns, but I can see exactly why DC wanted to give him this position. Why would Marvel want this position for Quesada?

also to turn this thread away from my fangirl raging, I would like to say that even though I was never super into Thundercats I will check out the new cartoon. Not sure how I feel about the Cap renders yet but neat to see them so thanks for posting!

i like the helmet on the fan art piece a bit better than the one that kinda looks like it's just the cowl. Without the wings a stronger helmet would make a better visual impression. But I'm not the hugest fan of Captain America so maybe this design has elements I'm not picking up on.

Lucas: "On Hold" - Question & Answer audience session @ 30th Anniversary Empire Strikes Back Screening.

EXCERPT:

Audience: How are things going with the Live-Action TV Show?

Lucas: "The Live-Action TV Show is kind of on hold because we have scripts, but we don't know how to do them. Because they literally are Star Wars - only we're going to have to try to do them - a tenth the cost. It's a huge challenge - lot bigger than what we thought it was gonna be."

How can you resist a link with that title, includes:

Empire Magazine has done a rather epic interview with "Inception" director Christopher Nolan and got him to talk a little bit more about both a third "Batman" and the "Superman" reboot he's attached to 'mentor'. Nolan still hasn't officially signed on to direct the next "Batman" and he says its due to workload - "the God's honest truth is I work on one movie at a time. I'm only capable of doing that, so my head will continue to be firmly in ['Inception'] for another few months." His brother Jonah is currently working on the script and Nolan is excited about it because he "particularly like(s) where we are taking the characters and what the ending is... There are things for me to be very excited about in addressing the characters again." He once again confirmed that the film will essentially be the capper of a trilogy rather than a random third entry - "the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story." One thing he did shoot down are some villain possibilities. Firstly he "emphatically and unhesitatingly" said we will NOT see the return of The Joker with someone else taking on the late Heath Ledger's role - "No, I just don't feel comfortable about it." It also looks like The Penguin and Mr. Freeze are definitely not out....

George Lucas is not making a Star Wars live action show for some reason.
But his companies are making Redtails, Star Wars The Clone Wars Seasons 3, 4 and 5, a Seth Green helmed animated show that's timeline spans the whole Star Wars universe and will be comedic in nature.

@Moar Bearded News PLZ!

Steven is making
* a TV show with Dinosaurs you wont watch until season 2 when you finally get around to torenting it, that is if it's even any good. But then again his TV has been pretty aces so far.
The Mighty Beard is also:
* Producing transformers 3 on orders from Satan.
* Pre-producing Indiana Jones 5, untitled film.
* Producing -codirecting a Tin-Tin series of films with another mighty beard Peter Jackson whom promises to direct one too right after he maybe might directs the Hobbits because he wants to protect MGM's interests and if that's what Peter Jackson is forced to do, then he will; and Tin - Tin will be much much later after the Myan Calander doom 2019.
The Bearded One is also:
* Directing a film based upon Lincoln.
* Communing with Aliens from another dimension channeling the content for another Extradimensional contact series.
* producing - maybe - directing 47 other projects.
* grooming his awesome beard.

AVENGERS,

AVENGERS ALREADY CASTING! (http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/06/jeremy-renner-poised-to-join-marvels-avengers.html)

Jeremy Renner near deal to join Marvel's 'Avengers'

Renner_jeremy_200 By Borys Kit and Zorianna Kit

Jeremy Renner is in final negotiations to join "The Avengers," Marvel Studios' big-screen take on its superhero team that's being directed by Joss Whedon.

Renner will play the bow-and-arrow-carrying hero Hawkeye, who, while not one of the initial members of the team when it was created in the 1960s, became an integral member soon after when the misguided villain switched sides.

Renner will join Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle as War Machine.

The Hulk may also be a character in the movie, but at this stage, there is no deal that would bring back Ed Norton, who starred as the emerald giant in 2008's "The Incredible Hulk."

Renner's involvement was initially rumored last fall, although the actor, who was in the middle of the awards derby with his war thriller "The Hurt Locker," was at the time more taken with Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled drama and was being heavily courted by Universal for "Battleship."

Renner never joined "Battleship," and while he still has definite interest in Anderson's film, that project is still cobbling financing and has seen its start pushed back several times.

Renner saw a chance to take on work in a role that, while key, is not starring in nature and will allow him to slide into Anderson's film if it should come together.

To keep costs manageable for the "Avengers," Marvel is trying to keep a lid on the movie's finances and the actors are taking salary cuts, according to insiders.

Renner, repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment, next appears in Ben Affleck's "The Town."

Marvel did not confirm that Renner is in negotiations

GTD feels the need to apologize further for some reason:

So, here I am again. As promised, I am posting a longer message before the week's end.

I have to thank those of you that have supported me from the start as well as those that converted along the way. And even say farewell to those that never did convert or believed.

I will miss Mr. Crere, the faith of Compa and Sir DennisC, the wisdom of Voronwe, the joy of Grammaboodawg, the support of Kangi Ska and so many, many others

Now, Pasi, et al- that is what is quite uncommon even on big films. Pete and co stuck to LOTR for years, I've developed films for years and I have shot many a movie on location... but rarely do you relocate for such massive amount of time specially when you have to do major ironclad agreements to put in deep freeze other contractual obligations with multiple studios.

My commitment to the project demanded enormous sacrifices both in personal and professional terms. The consequences of which will ripple for years. I relocated my entire life and family to New Zealand and first came on board in 2008.

So- while the cited delays, contractual complexities or obstacles, cannot be attributed to a single event or entity - you will simply have to believe that they were of sufficient complexity and severity to lead to the current situation. Trust me on this, Pasi- leaving NZ and the Hobbit crew is extremely painful.

As stated before- a wealth of designs, animatics, boards and sculptures is left behind representing accurately my ideas for Mirkwood, Spiders, Wargs, Stone Trolls, etc, etc and everyone (PJ, FW, PB and myself) has the same goal in mind: to try and ensure the best possible transition of the movie to a new director.

I believe these films will happen. Preproduction continues as we speak. The writing team of PJ,FW,PB and myself will keep moving the screenplays forward.

Perhaps even sooner than we may anticipate we will all look at the finished film and then- I will tear up whenever I recognize a set or a creature or a quirk created under my supervision. Everyone on these boards will get two movies. Me? I will be watching filmic family albums. Photos of my children from far away.

I hope you will understand how delicate the subject is for me.

I will drop by now and then, I will read the boards with interest and do hope to see some of you around at SDCC and many other places.

I am not here, however, to provide a blow-by-blow of what happened, but to assure you, as I have, that it has been the toughest situation of my life.

Beyond that- I am simply no longer an official voice for these projects. Be good, be well- and I invite you all to follow me into the next phase of my filmmaking journey.

Sincerely

GDT

Fassbender Up for Magneto or Unnamed Spiderman Villian? -make up your mind, internet rumors!

X-Men: First Class" director Matthew Vaughn is pursuing him to play the younger version of Ian McKellen’s Magneto in Fox's prequel project which already stars James McAvoy as the younger Professor Charles X. Xavier. That film is slated to kick off filming soon in the UK for release next Summer.

At the same time, Fassbender is being pursued to play the villain in “Spider Man 4" at Sony Pictures. As that film isn't scheduled to hit until mid-2012, its production won't kick off until sometime next year.

Fassbender is expected to choose one over the other, the question is which one and how it will fit into his schedule. The actor is currently shooting David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method" and will next star in David Jacobson's "A Single Shot".

INDIANA JONES AND THE MISERY OF ATLANTA!

STUFF of New Zwealand says = Harrison Ford's final outing as Indiana Jones will be "emotional and exciting" as the franchise heads back to its roots after a badly received fourth instalment.

Ford is well-known for his portrayal of the archaeologist and adventurer, and has agreed to reprise the role one last time.

Indiana Jones 5 will begin shooting next year, and much of the plot line will be centred around the Bermuda Triangle, an area over the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft are said to have disappeared.

"George (Lucas) and Steven (Spielberg) have been working on a script and it's almost there," a source explained.

"Harrison is on stand-by for filming next year. This looks like being an emotional and exciting conclusion to the franchise, with Indy facing his biggest challenge yet."

The last film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 and performed well at the box office, but was savaged by critics.

Shia LaBeouf played Indiana's son Mutt Williams, and he will also appear in the new instalment.

Movie bosses have assured fans the film will stay true to the series' roots, and won't contain lots of state-of-the-art special effects.

"Shia LaBeouf has a central role again as Indy's son but this will be a blockbuster made in the old fashioned way rather than the CGI efforts of the last movie," the source added.
