A wonderful score by Jack Wall, a great improvement to the first, in my opinion, which already had terrific music. Enjoy!

OMG

Despite the fact I finished the game twice... I still have very little memories of the music, which is excellent for the game, but far from what I was used to with Bioware.

But we'll see next week... or later, when I'll listen to this score thanks to pietastesgood !!!

Welcome guys.

And both the first and second scores have their strong points, for example the Normandy track and the theme from ME1 were both terrific, but the whole score sounded a bit too Fiedel-ish for me. In ME2, the "unnatural" electronics were replaced by orchestra; just sounded more natural to me. Not to force my opinion on anyone, of course.

Yeah, I hope there is more in there I really do. Well they kind of took inspiration form 70/80 electronics and I loved that. Now it definitely sounds more orchestral than in ME1, and this is disappointing.

Thanks dude,

I'm glad the cd producers came to their senses and made it a double set. The previous one eschewed some important music, such as Saren's base battle, Knossus battle music and a five minute extended mix of the final battle with Sovereign etc, which I had to extract from the first game itself.

Yeah, Red Faction 3's dev's also managed to get out a 3 hour long OST release, hopefully more producers will give us longer soundtracks rather than butchering the listening experience.

sad, no cd or high quality release news.

Digital only, but the 192 kb/s sounds perfectly fine for this score...

Thanks a lot for this, I just love it.
Yeah, there were some tracks in the first that you remember better. But it's still quite epic, especially the orchestra parts.
Don't care what people say about the game and music, this rocks. BTW, there's a new and final trailer in the official site, and it looks great!

Thanks! I can't wait to hear it, ME's score was incredible and both very original and classic (ala Blade Runner).

disappointing score tbh. where are the songs with tunes, telling a musical story with a start and end? i appear to have downloaded a set of ambient noise composed from instruments rather than environmental effects. massive fail compared to ME1.

Normandy Reborn had a tune. But yeah the first one was more unique than this one. I'm sure the game has more action music rather than ambience.

Yeah, I agree too - it's a bit dull, honestly. I don't know how it fits in-game, but as a standalone listen it's below ME's score. There a some nice themes ("The Illusive Man", "Normandy Reborn" and "Reflections" stand out), but most of it is just too bombastic and "dark". The synth elements don't blend as well with the classic instruments as in the previous score. The grand end-theme, "Suicide Mission" isn't bad too, but it's a bit too loud for my taste.

Definitely worth a listen, though, it has some strong themes and some folks might find it subtler and better than the first one.

It's weird but I think ME 2 was BETTER but ME 1 was more memorable. For one thing I think it's how the songs were arranged. ME 1 had the main thing mixed into everything, while songs in ME 2 were better didn't have that same familiar feeling.

I liked ME2's music, some of my fav tracks I gave 5 stars was Normandy Reborn, Grunt, Tali, and Suicide Mission

and having both ME and ME2 osts together is cool, I was however disappointed there was no end credits music from faunts like ME ost had, that was epic.

Got a point there with the end credits music. Since the game sells tomorrow, we can wait (or play) 'till the credits, and see if there's a song there, we hunt it down and listen to it.

The Faunts song fit in pretty well with the first game imo. Don't know if ME2 has a song yet.

It doesn't.

Overall: I'm really disappointed by this score. All the 80's Sci-Fi Elements i so loved are completely gone. So i guess the missing of Sam Hulick in this is the reason for it being so different.

I'm in a battle and i don't feel engaged, i feel exhausted, and the reason is the score. It's all big and bombastic. Always BOM BOM BAM BAM BAM! I'm done fighting and head to Omega to buy something, and it's all ambient music. It just doesn't feel right. It kind of lost a part of it's soul.

To be honest, after having played the game, I think it fits better with the action than as a standalone experience and it sort of grew on me. I still prefer the original Mass Effect score, but this definitely worth at least a single hearing. Even though, as YoungZer0 said, some loop tracks can tire you out while playing.

Sam Hullick is still part of the score, though, he's just not credited as the main composer this time. The first Mass Effect was scored by four people, it's the same with this one - if I remember correctly, only the cinematics composer was switched due to schedule. I read an interview with Jack Wall last week and he gave a lot of insight into the making of the scores.
