What is the best movie of 2009? Or

What is the 2009 movie that you liked the most?

To me the Best 2009 movie is "Watchmen".

For me, Red Cliff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Cliff_%28film%29), released in June of 2009 here in Australia.

John Woo's take on the 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' focusing on the battle which stopped the Kingdom of Wei's southern march, against the kingdoms of Wu and Shu respectively.

Pity we only got the edited down version... not the original two part movie version...

Watchmen made it into my top 10, yes. But, I'll go with Avatar as my favorite, overall, for the year 2009.

I went through the 2009 in Film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_in_film) wikipedia page because I couldn't remember what I'd seen this past year, then had the depressing realization that I only saw 7 movies in 2009: Watchmen, Duplicity, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (parents-in-law rented this one, I swear), The Hangover, Away We Go, 9, and Avatar.

Of those, only Watchmen, The Hangover, and Avatar were any good. So I guess my best movie would be Avatar, for the spectacle.

I need to get out more...

So I'm sure you guys know which one I think is best.

I didn't see them all or could say which one is best, but out of the 2 dozen or more movies I saw this year I enjoyed these 2 the best.

The Hangover
The 4th Kind

Honorable Mention:
Star Trek

"Up in the Air," is probably the best I've seen. I've yet to see "The Hurt Locker" so that could change. I want to see "Moon" as well before I make any definite decisions.

I gotta say, I missed a LOT of good movies in '09 :'( It really wouldn't be fair for me to choose a favorite, seeing as how I only saw 'Time Traveler's Wife' and 'Avatar'. That's it. But I could definitely recommend those two.

Favourites of 2k9 would be Public Enemies at number one then Inglorious Basterds, the Hangover, Zombieland, Adventureland and Avatar in whatever order. Saw something like 40 films last year, most were appalling.

Yes, Basterds over Avatar for me.

but orphans aren't scary at all, if you suspect an orphan of wicked deeds just kill it, they have no parents so no one will miss them if they disappear. that's what makes them orphans.

I saw Basterds, but I didn't think it was that good. It was a good Tarantino(sp) movie, where it's sort of comical/dragging on than BAM shit's just fucked up, murdering everyone, and it's over.

It's good, but I missed a lot of movies in '09 that I think could be better.

Let the Right One In (Lt den rtte komma in) - Tomas Alfredson

By far the best cinema going experience (of a contemporary film) I've had in years. A beautifully composed, thoughtful film that makes very poetic use of a minimal setting. It ‘breathes’ in a way that Hollywood dross just doesn’t anymore. Yes, it’s yet another take on vampirism, and certain aspects of the plot do seem like a lipservice, and rather at odds with the tone.. BUT it works wonderfully as a metaphor for childhood alienation and nascent sexuality - themes I think we can all identify with. Highly recommended!

I'm going to have to go with the Hurt Locker. It is a little slow but I really enjoyed it. I think it completely deserved to win either way. My friends don't entirely agree with me, they though it was too boring. But who in the world would rush to defuse a bomb in the middle of no-mans land?!... wouldn't make sense.

Having seen Avatar twice in 3D, I'm left with the remembrance of a fun time and great spectacle, but I've no real interest in viewing it again. Star Trek was a blast and has more replay value thanks to the characters it inherited, but it was hurt by its thematic shallowness compared to the apex of the series, Wrath of Khan. Watchmen worked for me but is held back by several bizarrely awkward moments. I have some logic issues with The Hurt Locker (the "night excursion" for anyone who saw the film) but it was superbly acted and directed... however, I'm going to have to join the love for Inglourious Basterds for three reasons:

Christoph Waltz
The opening scene
The tavern scene

Inglourious Basterds.

The story really messed up with both night excursion scenes (to keep this purposefully vague for those who haven't seen it) not only because of the question of "Why do that?" but also because those two scenes had way more potential to produce interesting, tense moments than what actually happened in the movie. Those were big mistakes in the writing. I went in with high expectations. I didn't know they were just going to be telling an Ernest Hemingway story I've already read and know the ending to.

By the way, there's a lot more intensity in Brian Turner's poem "The Hurt Locker." (http://www.fishousepoems.org/archives/brian_turner/the_hurt_locker.shtml) (a reading of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_rKwRL0p6g))

I'll tell ya what's awkward about these so called "Watchmen", Dr. Manhattan's giant blue phallus flopping around the screen every 5 minutes that's what! It was just so distracting the way it wiggled around that it's nearly imposable to keep track of the pathetic drivel that this thing passed off as a plot. And this was after years boycotting movies about these so called "heroes" after a similar debacle with that blue women's exposed breasts distracting me form the plot of that Xman movie. Ha, X-Men, more like X rated men if you ask me! What kind of perverse dreck are we spoon feeding are already far too corpulent children anyway?
I bet it all started with that Spider-man movie. He's a menace I tell you!
