Well, since Tekken 4 is almost here, I wanted to talk about...erm...Tekken, of course!!!! Not just Tekken 4, Tekken in general.

Personally, I just adore the Tekken series. I can't get enough of it. My favorite characters include Xiaoyu and Nina. Xiaoyu is tough to play with though because she's kinda weak, but it's funny when I make people walk away in the middle of a match because of her blinding speed. Nina is just god-like because she has the god-like reversal and those god-like chained throws. I can pull off 3 of those in a match and I'm working on the Crab Hold one.

So0o0o0o0o0...any Tekken fans out there?

I bought Tekken 4 JPN... lets just say that I'm not that pleased.

The Story Mode brings the stories, Tekken Force is good and long but you would only really play it twice, Chain Training is fun (assuming there is an internet ranking mode in the US version)

Otherwise it's just the arcade game to your home. Very little interesting extras except for Story Mode.

But a nice game if you like the Tekken gameplay system.

Hwoarang is the best character easily

1) He does Tae Kwon Do

2)I'm the best ever with him, I will kill anyone as I know his move that kills you in one go.

Then it would be Law (both of them)

I play it in the arcades, but I don't know that I'll buy it (until they drop it down to $20, that is).

My favorite characters are Bryan Fury and Paul Phoenix, and I was really mad when I saw how much they had screwed with Bryan's fighting style. He used to be a power character now he's just a..... shit character.

Tekken 4 is good Ill admit but its not best, I prefer more use of strategy in my fighters like Virtua Figher or SNK Vs Capcom 2.

i dont like any beat em ups (apart from the Streets of Rage series on the Mega Drive) because i dont have quick fingers and i cant remember all the friggin moves.

however, i can still see why Tekken is so successful. but yeah, surely there isnt much more they can do with it? its similar to Gran Turismo and that concept cars game they brought out...its just killing a classy title

No one mentioned Steve Fox!!! He has to be one of the best players in the game... He can be almost imposible to hit (since he dodges) and he is FAST (Ling fast). He's my fav. character and sooner or later my sig./avatar is gonna be him :)

And don't forget Christie...

Also don't spoil storylines cause som idiot person (not here) spoiled the main story of Steve to everyone and I read it and now...

I also like using Paul, Hworang (shouldn't be using him), Ling, Jin, Yoshmitsu...

well, I liked what I read about him, I'd had said something, but like I said, I haven't played it.

I thought Tekken was a fun game until my litlle sister beat me. All she did was mash on the buttons like a monkey whie laughing her head off while im trying combos but keep getting kicked..... A LAB MONKEY COULD BEAT A PRO AT THIS GAME!

They were deffently more skill oriented...

sme what back to what i said earlier:

A battle between a vet and nood can be annoying for the vet, or dishearting and frustrating for the noob,

noob vs. noob is more fun for noobs....I guess.

and two vets can be very exciting to watch

I have tekken 3 for the PS1. It is an awesome awesome fighting game. I must admit, i am a complete vet at this game. Completely mastering all the characters and knowing all the moves i thought were worth knowing, aswell as over 30- 10 strings which i can still remember. I have very fast fingers and good at remembering moves (which is why im good at stuff like parappa and gitaroo man.)

No, your 1 hit kill move will RARELY work on me, ill either avoid it or hit you before you can do it cuz the animations are long for those moves. Oh and about those throw combos, thats cool that you can do ninas 3 throw move, i used to be able to do hers but i forgot it by now, but i used to pull off kings 4 and 5 throw combos, im not sure if i can remember them now though. My friends used to say i had a chip in my head because i was too good at it, they often talk about me having a chip in my head now :)

Also - i have a friend who is pretty damn good at tekken 3, and i can beat him 90% of the time, but he does give me a challenge. Wheras often a newbie will play me and beat me out of luck, it can be frustrating but in 100 games, they will luck win maybe 2 or 3 - turning out for them very disheartening and they will either never play it again or have the desire to become equally as good and play like a maniac

I got Tekken 4 today (along with a PS2  ). I think it is a pretty good game. I've played from Tekken 1 to 4 now and I think Tekken 2 is the best by far. The best players and the most interesting battles.

Yup, I like the Tekken series as it's a fun and ruley game. My fav characters from it are Nina cos she's sorta evil, Anna cos you gotta love her skanky look, Julie cos she's just ruley and Xiaoyu cos I've always liked the Asian character in video games but I don't know why that is. :eye:

Tekken's neat. I've played Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag. My favourite character to play with is Xiaoyu... she might be weak but she's as fast as hell. xD

Hmm tekken 2, i dont like it as a game, its no where near as good as tekken 3.. cummon, t3 got everythin that T2 got minus a couple of old characters and plus loads more, plus MUCH more variety with moves. The characters in t2 jump much higher than the other games and the views further out. But the music on t2 is THE BEST

Erm I'm sure some already pointed this out, but while Tekken was the more popular arcadish fighter of the fighting genre it's lost it's edge.

I never really liked any of the Tekkens, but T4 bombed.
VF4 raised the bar, and you would have thought being released in Q2 2002 that they would have been able to use VF4 as a ruler for T4, but obviously not.

The graphics are pretty nice, but nothing over the top that really pushes the Emotion system of the PS2.
The game is simply another story, where the fighting compliments it. Where as the game should be about fighting where the story compliments it.

It seems Tekken designers have become too infatuated with presenting a martial arts soap opera then actual street fighting.

Unless Mk5 (or 6?) or Soul Caliber 2 pushes the envelope, VF4 will stay as king until late next year.

For more information on T4 and it's lack of projected success stop by a newstand or go online and check OPM's take on the game.

i think that Tekken is an excellent fighting game. The latest one that i have played is Tekken 3 but now that i own a ps2 i can try tekken tag tournament and tekken 4, i hope they surpass their prequels. my favorite characters are Jin Kazama and Paul Pheonix, i'm unbeatable with them , well thats going a bit to far, but i am really good with them.

also i enjoyed the Tekken movie

One small other thing I didn't like about Tekken 4 is that they changed Jin's fighting style... but other than that, the game still isn't great. =P

I like Tekken 2 and 3 the most...and I can't believe I'm actually good at it. I like Xiaoyu, but I never seem to play good when I choose her. Hwaorang's my ultimate favourite. ^_^

Hworang is good for beginners because his simple moves are easy to do, but he is incredibly hard to master, in fact i found him the hardest to master in T3, his 10 strings are the hardest in the game.

Dr. Lucien Sanchez
10-03-2002, 06:04 PM
Hwoarang is a great character though, thats why I feel he's the best character because, he has powerful basic moves which a beginner can easily grasp, but it took me about a month and a half to master him, and fluently do his combo's. But he's a fantastic fighter.

Ok i played Tekken 4 round a m8s house...

Unfortunately i dont thinks its anywhere near as good as Tekken3.. i dunno, i guess its just im more used to Tekken 3. im not as skillful at tekken 4 as i am with tekken 3. Also, what they did to Jin sucks.. i cant use him in T4. ;[

My sidestepping didnt seem to be as effective, maybe the timing must be different, in T3 i could consistently sidestep an opponent as they attacked me and side throw them. I could still 10 string in tekken 4 but kings animations are different slightly so it threw me off at first ;)

I finally got to play it,for the past few days I've played ,I got all the caracters.....seen all but three of the ending movies for now,in regards to everone changed figting style, that dosen't bother me, I expected it, (but Jin's new Unblocable move is a little......sorry looking....note: he was supposed to forget his Mishima Karate....and yet he still has a few ,but has even less of his inherit Kazama style self defense....which were key to his reversals),other than that, alot of the move have been weakened, the dragon uppercut barely does more damage than a rising uppercut....I also don't like that they listed every single move, for everyone, leaving little discovery,as I said, the changed fighting styles don't bother me, but the moves are all faster, you move around slower......and everything is jerky and atrificial looking............I would say that it has a good selection of characters while still keeping he amount of them minimal, who are more varied and balanced compared to each other,(meaning it's in perspective, other than being jerky, the styles of fighting are as they should be).......I'm glad to see the return of some characters,(Lee and Kazuya),including most from T3......I haven't played TTT, but T4, while is good, it won't stop me from playing the occasional T3......

I just go T4 for my B-day!!!, today!!! lol lol lol :)

I really got to work with Steve. I keep dying... I rock with Christie though... Almost beat Tekken Force with her... I'm also good w/Paul.

The first thing I noticed is EVERYONE IS SO FAST!!! Really... Plus you can't crouch down as easily... throughs me off sometimes...

I've played the first three versions of the game, and found the second to be best, mainly because I could use Kazuya Mishama (if my spelling is in order.) We used to spend long afternoons during boring Science lessons at school four years ago discussing which character was the best and who'd whip who at Tekken 2. We never did meet up and have it out though.

I wonder if I could've really thrashed those guys...

... I only own Tekken 3 now, but regret keeping it in exchange for the second one. The second just seemed to flow better, even though it wasn't as pretty as the first.

Hehe yea, ive played T4 again today but couldnt resist playing T3 when i got home. it just feels so much more crisp to me. The ducking in T4 is harder yea, you need to press backwards aswell as down, the T3 method was alot better. You cant jump back either.. kinda weird. The change of style doesnt bother me.. But, i think they should have made a new character with Jins new fighting style and left him with his old.. or, the other way round, make a new char with jins old style. The throws are also weird too, i find them slower to grab and i dont know how you use the second standard throw.. when you press X and Square.. it does a weird circle move

That's called the positin change, so if your in a corner, you can get out, but I duobt it will work well, you can move the opponent in four directin, you can push the back, spin and switch places, or toss'em left or right.

Neo Xzhan
10-08-2002, 06:53 PM
Hmm well I must agree that pos change seems useless but it saves my arse more then once when I was fighting a couple or friends. I also thought it was useless but with some good timing it is a good weapon, a friend showed me that :).

Ahh yes, thats a good idea, it can be anoying being stuck in the corner while your opponent is smashing you against the wall
