Oh btw, that tech demo of FF7 for the PS3 is what, 3-4 years old now? if they really were going to do a remake, don't you think we've atleast had some info now?

No?

Awww that sucks.

Take this for what you will. (http://electronictheatre.co.uk/index.php/industry-news/3665-final-fantasy-vii-remake-green-lit)

Well, if it's real, it certainly is an uprgrade in the fact that someone (without details) verefied that the company would be remaking it, even if it's in the next few years. It also implies they'd remake VIII and IX as well, which would be a great idea.

Anyone else notice the screenshot with Tifa 3000 HP behind the others? They need to level their Tifa or take off some of those damn HP Materia!

I also didn't know that VII (from what I understood reading the article) was apparently going to be made for tne N64 as well as the Playstation? Guess they got left out of the windfall that was VII.

I should've known my posting that thread could open up a possible can of worms.. Well, as much as I'm positive this thread will be closed as well, I'll go ahead and agree with TM that IX is the more worthy title to be remade as VII and most of the others have been milked like prostitute cows. But at this point I'm more in favor of them moving forward with XIII and their newer projects than stepping back any further. What's done is done. I decided I'd dig up a little info for myself the other night and confirmed VII is on the PSN (I didn't even know what the PSN was until I dug that up; my, how technology has passed me by :O) but up until now, everything we've seen from them has sort of been the snack before the meal. Dissidia, Crisis Core, FFIV remake, FFIII remake, and there's even more I'm forgetting; they've all been a little taste test for what's to come, and in this case that would be XIII. So, I think it's probably safe to say that if they do come out with a full-fledged remake of VII, it'll merely be something to tide us over for their next big project. Just because it's been green-lit doesn't necessarily mean it's underway or even planned to begin development any time soon; hell, it could be another decade for all we know. What we do know is that when it happens, whether people enjoy it or not, the original ain't goin' nowhere. So I think it's best that we conclude this discussion before the said flame war erupts and just stay on the edge of our seats to take whatever Square DOES decide to send our way.

Who's with me on that? :D

XIII is coming. It's releasing in the States in March '10, and I believe it's already out in Japan. Euro/Austrailia will have their own release dates if they don't coincide with the States'. It's not like we're being teased with a VII remake so they can pushback XIII.

The remakes (yes, remakeS) will most likely happen, and probably be started sooner than a decade, seeing as they (imo) would be centering them around the current technology in the PS3, and in ten years who knows which consoles will be updated/still producing games.

Right, I just meant that I'd rather they not backtrack but instead stay focused on their current developments. It's great that they ported the first six games onto more accessible consoles, but I hope to see what fresh new ideas they've got for future original titles rather than a re-imagining of old ones. I was kind of excited to see that they had at least given it some thought, but the more I think about it, the more I'd like to see them leave the first twelve games as are and keep the train moving.

Once again, all that is offered as 'proof' is the ambiguous ramblings of a junior staff member (who wasn't even on FFVII's development team) through unofficial channels.

Really, until Square Enix officially states either at a gaming trade show or on their website that remakes are in development, take this with a grain of salt as yet another 'all SE staff would love to do a remake but we're not doing one.'

Were left in the balance again, best not to get our hopes up, not only for VII but for any psx FF remake.

Things like this have been intimated at before. A employee of Square hints at a possible remake of FFVII, which starts the steamroll effect. Speaking from a personal stand point, FFVII does not need a remake. About 90% or so, of people who are all calling/screaming for a remake, are ones who's first foray into the FF universe was with the PS2 generation of FF's.

I've seen on numerous forums, as well as spoken to plenty of people in gaming stores (Employees and customers) and the debate about yes/no to a remake of FFVII has supporters in both camps. It seems to me (From my own perspective here), that the main reason people want a remake... is because they can't stand the graphics of the PSX version.

Since when did graphics become the 'end-all-be-all' for games? Graphics are just the icing on the cake, there to make the game 'look pretty'. Also, the original development team has either left Square or are on other projects, which would/could lead to a whole new development team, who'd then bring their own 'touch' to the project. Look at Dirge of Cerberus, rewrote Vincent Valentine from what was known/told about him in FFVII.

Also, and this may be only a minor thing, the library files for FFVII (Files which are needed for a remake) are not in Square's hands. They are in Sony's, which means a remake would have to start from scratch, zero. A project like this will cost Square a LOT of capital and financing, which I admit, they'd probably make back in spades with the selling of a FFVII remake.

I just think Square should focus on the future and work on newer games, rather than alter/remake the past.

That's how I feel too; as I said, it's nice that they chose to port the first six games to platforms more accessible to modern players, but from that point on I feel that they need to be left alone.

Thanks for going out of your way for showing me something that's hardly credible. As someone in this thread already said:

"Once again, all that is offered as 'proof' is the ambiguous ramblings of a junior staff member (who wasn't even on FFVII's development team) through unofficial channels.

I feel exactly like this.

The day that Square-Enix announcers (official site), that FFVII is going to be remade, I will revise the forum charter.

Until then, all FFVII remake related threads will be closed.

No exceptions.
