I started a new IX game last week sometime, and got to the part where Steiner has to find all of his Knight's to go look for the Princess. I stopped there and went to bed, and when I started the game up the next day it said that my game save was corrupted.

I've never had this happen before. I loaded, played, and resaved FFVII, Legend of Legaia, and Metal Gear Solid and nothing was wrong with any of them. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had problems with IX's data? I checked my disc, and I didn't notice anything wrong with it. My ps2 is in good condition, and like I said, this has never happened before.

I was going to just replay it, but I don't want to get back to where I was and the next time I try and load it, it won't work. Any ideas?

you didn't use a gameshark did you? cause there's a corrupted file thing on there.

I used to have one when I had my ps1, but I bought a new memory card when I bought my ps2, an it was a new game anyway. So no, no gameshark.

I had that happen once years ago on an official PSX memory card, but it was with Front Mission 3 - the file corrupted and I had to reformat it, losing all my FFVIII saves plus my FM3 ones too in the process. I was not a happy White Mage :(.

Sadly, it's one of those rare but frustrating things that happen. In the PSX era, Sony hadn't fully perfected save storage technology so even their own branded memory cards were a mixed bag as far as reliability is concerned.

Apparently, changing cards over when the system is turned on (but not currently accessing the card) can also cause problems with them, but I have no idea if that is true or not.

Best thing to do, is back up your most valuable saves on multiple cards (the PS2 cards are handy for this - even though PSX games do not recognise PS2 cards, you can store PSX data on a PS2 card for back-up purposes, and then copy the file across to a PSX card in the PS2's browser.

Ouch, that game moves entirely too slow for me, I would've hated having to replay it, even if it was such a great game ;)

I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one this has happened too. It's not as if my power flickered or I changed cards, it just....happened. I will certainly take your advice and back up my game saves, I have a nice Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions save at 99% (ONE freaking mission that I couldn't beat before my rental game had to go back)!

And I'll try IX again now, hopefully it won't happen again. The card I have is one of the ones with two cards built in, and a toggle on it to activate each card, I don't know if that was the problem, but seeing how my other game saves are fine, I don't think it is.

Ah, there lies your problem. The third party PSX cards (like those so-called '8 meg' ones or the 'double-stacked' cards) tended to be extremely unreliable, so much so, Sony issued a warning to PSX owners not to rely on them, although that was just taken as a company worried about sales of it's own branded peripherals. However, it didn't help people who were still suffering from corrupted memory cards. In fact, it seemed the larger capacity the card, the more unreliable it was.

Really, my advice would be to try and find an official Sony branded PSX card and just back up your saves onto a PS2 card, and junk the double-stacked card.

I'll probably head up to game stop one of these days that I wake up earlier than noon. (aka time before work). I don't know of anyone else in my town that could sell them, unless walmart has such an outdated electronics section that they have them, which may be true.

The card has worked for me for about 5 years I believe, hate to say goodbye. You think the games I transfer off the twin carded one will be safe? or should I just recreate my games....I really hope not.
