Next Ghibli film announced heirs the first release info.

"Studio Ghibli has announced its next movie will be an anime adaptation of famous children’s story “The Borrowers,” to be entitled Karigurashi no Arrietty with a theatrical release due in 2010.

The movie will be an adaptation of Mary Norton’s famed “Borrowers” series of children’s novels, begun in 1952, which describe the adventures of a race of tiny people living amongst normal humans.

However, instead of being set in fifties England the story will be transposed to the Japan of 2010, with the titular protagonist Arrietty being a 14-year-old girl.

Cinematic release is due in the summer of 2010, doubtless with an international release planned in short order after this.

With the novel already a classic, Studio Ghibli looks set to strike gold once more…"

For now that's all I found. I'll keep up with the info and will post it here if there's any updates.

My friend was talking about this to me the other day.

I remember seeing "The Borrowers" on television, eh it was ok. I dunno if I'm going to see it though, but I'll wait and see.

Ghibli makes great movies and I'll watch every last one but I was never thrilled with the the Borrowers, Maybe if they get a dub cast to reflect the english origins like John Cleese, Alan Rickman, Ian McKellen, Tim Curry, or someone like that I'd be more excited.

This might be a dumb question, but I'm assuming Miyazaki won't be involved?

I believe someone else at Ghibli is directing it and if Miyazaki is involved it'd be minor stuff.

That would suck if he's not :( But I agree, even the most minor touch from him would still have a huge impact on the movie.

Well he didn't direct Pom Poko and had little to do with the Whisper of the Heart dualigy so it's not like not having him doing %200 like he usually does is a bad sign.

Sweet! I've never seen "The Borrowers" but most Ghibli films I've seen are among my favorites.
