I know the cards of FF9 change.
As in the numbers change. But i want to know how and when.
Also i have a card with "A" as its attack method, what does that mean??

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">Basically, the cards have four numbers. The first number represents the attack value of the card, which is used when you start a card battle.

The second letter means the attacking method. There are four different letters that are used. An 'A' value for the second stat is very rare. Here's what all the letters for the second part mean:

P: Attacks the physical defence of the other card with the attack value.
M: Attacks the magical defence of the other card with the attack value.
X: Attacks the lowest defence value on the other card with the attack value.
A: Attacks the lowest number on the other card with the highest number on your card.

As I said, A is very rare, but it is very useful. I've never seen it myself.

The third and fourth numbers are the physical and magical defense stats respectively. Higher defence stats mean your card has a good chance of winning if your opponent starts a card battle with you.

The numbers for attack, physical defence and magical dfence range from 0-9, then A-F; F being the best and 0 being the worst.

For example,
if your opponent lays a card with stats 3P29,
that shows it has an attack power of 3,
it is a physically attacking card,
it's physical defence stat is 2,
and it's magical defence is 9.
Therefore, if you want to start a card battle with this card, you should use a card that uses physical attacks, rather than magical.

However, even if your card has better stats than your opponent's card, you won't necessarily win the card battle. Although you have the better chance of winning, it is still totally random. It does appear that if you are losing, you are less likely to win a card battle than if you are drawing or winning.

Oh, and for the increasing numbers on the cards...

Each card has a hexadecimal value for the attack, physical defence and magical defence as I have already stated; values from 0 to F. These values themselves are also split into 16ths.

For example, if the attack value on a card is 0, it could actually have a sub-number from 1-15. At the end of every game, one value on every card you used will increase by 1/16. Once a value has increased by 16/16, the visible value will increase by 1.

Also, a P or M may turn into an X but this is rare; and even rarer, an X may turn into an A. You cannot pick up or win cards with an A for attacking style, you have to improve their stats yourself by playing a lot of games.

Hope that helped. :)

Meltigemini, you said that the highest number for physical and magical defense is F. That is where you're wrong. The highest number is E. :p :p :p

I try and stay AWAY from the card game, cuz it's WAY confusing, but that helped A LOT in trying to figure it out. At least I'll know what I'm doing when I'm at the card tournament in Treno. The FFVIII card game was SO much easier. I about mastered that now.

Well... I have a cheap trick. Collect a TON of cards that look like they're strong based loosely on Meltigemini's post, such as Save the Queen, the airships, etc. Now, save, and then go play a game. If you lose, hit the reset button on your PS. Try again with diff cards. In Treno, I won like that.

Why didn't you just restart your PS? That's what I would of done. I've lost a lot of my GF cards in FFVIII, and every time I did, I'd just restart.
