Nice one! I've got the soundtracks to And The Rock Cried Out No Hiding Place, Shadown Dancing, and The Coming of Shadows if you want me to post them. I don't think they're particularly good quality though...

Edit: Are the first two soundtracks the same? They have the same filename and size.

Edit again: Do you have the 'A Call To Arms' soundtrack? :)

All of his stuff for B5 is still available and CHEAP (some guys are actually buying their B5 cds on ebay expensively), 7$US a cd ... I'm going to buy Crusade (and i'm still looking for a good soul eager to share it with all the fans here....)

Fantastic work my friend, you've also made me go back and revist this series! I'm working through it now on DVD, it's aged a little bit but still remains the best Sci-Fi series ever put on Television... lightyears ahead of it's time... re-watching it you realise how much the Battlestar reboot stole from it!

StGeorges: Thanky you! Thanky you! Thanky you! Thanky you! Thank you for those B5 scores! I only wish I could use FileFactory. I've tried but I keep getting swamped with pop-ups or cut off from the site (I only temporarily allowed pop-ups once I was having problems, as I thought the blocker might be why I kept getting dropped). Not terribly user-friendly. But I wanted to thank you anyway as the originator of this data. For now I will only be able to get those on Megaupload (which I adore -- as THE easiest place to DL from so far).
And certainly a BIG thanks to the others (eggerty, shinRa Inc, etc.) that have provided alternate DL's via non-FileFactory sites.
I may not be able to DL all that is posted here, but as a poor fellow with limited resources, you have made me a happy camper.

UPDATE: [6 HRS later] I manageged to figure out the process for FileFactory. Thanks again all. I had some of these, but had to sell them to pay bills. Nice to get them back.

Thanks for the Crusade. Love that they tried something different. So sad the show didn't get to continue.

Caesius
02-04-2011, 02:43 AM
Akbar56,
I totally agree about Crusade. I would love for them to release some novels at least. Have you read the unproduced scripts that were about to be made (had the show continued, that is)? They were available to read for a time, and they really just made the cancellation worse for me because I saw how things were about to just explode. In a BIG way. What makes me most angry is that the networks were so down on continuing story arcs and that is what hurt "B5" and killed "Crusade," and also "Fire Fly." But now with "Lost" and others, a continuing story is all the rage.

Thanks for the "Crusade" score, Sargonarhes. I was one of those that railed against it at the time the show came out. But I wasn't bothered by WHAT was played, but more about HOW it was used. But I am glad it was different, as it certainly gave "Crusade" a different feel. I think the use of Chen's music got better as time went on, and who knows what would have been?

akbar56
02-04-2011, 03:13 AM
I did read those scripts. Did you read the Technomage Trilogy? Gives some AWESOME inside into Galen (I named my cat after him) and picks up alot of what was in those unproduced scripts.

Crusade was ahead of its time. What really sucks is that Crusade was cancelled before it even hit the air! I do remember reading an interview with JMS that Crusade's greater arc was going to give the network EXACTLY what they wanted in the show, but he needed season one to set it up. IIRC, they were gonna find a cure for the plague (as we always knew they would) in mid season 2 and the show had much more to work on from there.

Caesius
02-04-2011, 07:16 AM
Gah! Breaks the heart, doesn't it? [I just happen to be listening to the score right now]
I did read those Technomage books. I made sure to read those "approved by" or "originally outlined by" JMS (including the G'Kar/Lyta & Marcus/Ivanova short stories). I re-read the Technomage ones again recently. I like to read them with the music that goes with them. Now I can add the "Crusade" score next time.

I would really like to read them all again, but many have gone missing from my library. I still have the "Centauri Trilogy" (which is a frustrating read, because Londo is such a tragic character with few moments above water. And I like "To Dream in the City of Sorrows." I still have that one, thankfully. I also managed to find "To Dream in the City of Sorrows" in PDF format, so I also have it on my eReader and plan on starting it again Friday while at the pharmacy (one can spend several hours there just waiting). I was re-watching my DVD's of B5, and so the end of Season one is in my head. And if I manage to get to Neroon's fight with Marcus, I might jusrt be able to seamlessly go from that episode to the book. If I recall it was in "Grey 17 is Missing." Ugh. I wish I could edit that episode. Have Garibaldi get knocked out. Edit out all the Garibaldi stuff and show only all the Marcus stuff. Then, at the end, show Garibaldi with Sheridan. Sheridan tells him all that happened while Garibaldi was missing, and then asks him "...And where were you?" Garibaldi's explanation works even better if you didn't see that stuff anyway.

But, back to the books, I had the Psi Corps trilogy in a great single-volume hardcover (Science Fiction Book Club Edition, I imagine). But I am currently more annoyed by the loss of "The Shadow Within." I think it is available online for cheap, but I haven't money to spare of late. PDF download would be sweet.

Boy, I'm only at track 6, but this "Crusade" music seems to really stand on its own pretty well. It'll fit well if I ever decide to re-read Asimov's Foundation books again. When i read them the first time I played John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness soundtrack with cues from the original Terminator -- "The Future Remembered" And "The Terminator Theme"(the latter being the cue that told me I was at the end of the tape). Funny, it was such an extensive read that still sometimes recall imagery from the Foundation series when I hear that music.

Ouch. I could have done without Track 15. In fact, I am getting rid of it. And this is coming from a guy that really likes Laurie Anderson.

Admiral_Young
02-04-2011, 12:37 PM
The All three of the trilogy books were pretty awesome, the Psi Corps trilogy to a lesser degree in my opinion. My favorite has to be the Centauri Prime trilogy...Londo's just such a tragic character. It is disappointing that Crusade was never able to be fully realized thanks to TNT...the amount of influence and interference from them must have driven JMS off the wall.

I don't even recall what that track is from in the show. Is that the alien porno music?

Zoran
02-04-2011, 10:10 PM
Chen's music for Crusade is different and took a little getting used to because I'm such a Christopher Franke (http://www.voices-in-the-net.de/__cf.htm) / Tangerine Dream (http://www.voices-in-the-net.de/voiceshm.htm) nut...But now I like it a lot. I would love to ger a hold of the books & un-shot scripts you guys are talking about so shoot me a PM ok? :)

Caesius
02-04-2011, 11:03 PM
Admiral Young. I agree with what you said about the Psi Corps books. Personally, I really just wanted to get to the Garibaldi/Bester bit. I got more out of the Crusade script with Bester than those books.

Zoran - I tried. I didn't see any way to do that. "I here am new." I sent a Friend Request, under the assumption that this will open up the PM option. If not, I am tpkelly2 with a "ya" and a "hoo." I only have one book as PDF, you are welcome to the file. And the one script I have -- I am pretty mad that the others I had were on a laptop that died. I was only able to recover one online (still searching for the others). Some fans are terribly over-protective of them. Personally I see no harm in showing those that actually really cared about the show what would have been. There are more important things to worry about in life, so you'd think they'd throw us a bone. Escapism can be a major aid in dealing with said life.

Ah. Well, I'd hate to waste space here. I suppose I could stick my nose into some other topics. But I have to got to the pharmacy for my folks before 5 and I'll have to get back to you then. Thanks for the info. As I said, glad to send you what I have (which also includes two short stories that deal with G'Kar and Lyta's travels, and a fun one about Ivanova and Marcus). Also, I realize that not everyone is in the same financial situation, but from what I have seen, some of the novels are cheap online. Usually less than a dollar (plus $4 shipping). However, if you are interested in true Babylon 5 cannon, then I recommend only reading "To Dream in the City of Sorrows," "The Shadow Within." Of the series of books that are numbered (like I THINK the one's I mentioned are books 7 and 9...but not sure), those are the only ones considered true cannon. Then there are the trilogies we've mentioned. All cannon. I have to blaze, but I'm sure others would be happy to finish the list. I'll be back later anyway.

Sorry to remain off-topic, but if this continues, we should start a new thread.
It should be noted, JMS is against the open release of these scripts. Likening it to out and out theft. Cafe Press might release them legitimately after they are done with the whole JMS Babylon 5 Scripts Collection sale. This might happen. But sometimes fans just can't afford them (esp. not on eBay). If they came out in a limited release, as the B5 scripts were, I'd be screwed. ANYWAY, I didn't pop on line to discuss my financial situation.
Now, if you go here: Cafe Press (http://www.cafepress.com/b5books) you might be thrilled to see what I saw. Here's a little bit of what was made available with the PUBLISHED JMS B5 scripts -- which gives me hope for if/when the Crusade scripts are published:

PLUS UNPRODUCED SCRIPTS, INCLUDING:
The original 1989 version of the Babylon 5 pilot
An alternate version of "And the Sky, Full of Stars," featuring Laurel Takashima
The aborted version of "Soul Hunter" that JMS withdrew from the producers shortly after he turned it in
The unfinished script for "Festival!"--an early version of "The Parliament of Dreams," featuring Mr. Jones
The first draft of "Matters of Honor," featuring Simon Drake, the creator of the Babylon Project
The joke pages from "The Exercise of Vital Powers," featuring a romantically involved Londo and G'Kar.

AS WELL AS JOE CUTS: A page-by-page, scene-by-scene inventory of additions, deletions and alterations made to the Babylon 5 scripts between the time they left JMS's word processor and the moment they appeared on the television screen. Instead of scrounging around on the cutting room floor, let this detailed guide direct you to the scenes you couldn't see on TV, like the murder of a Ranger by Morden's Shadow bodyguards that was cut from "Interludes and Examinations."

And -- saving the best for last -- JMS'S ORIGINAL SYNOPSIS OF HOW BABYLON 5 WOULD HAVE DEVELOPED IF JEFFREY SINCLAIR HAD REMAINED IN COMMAND.

There are some synopses of the three unproduced Crusade scripts at Worlds of JMS ( http://worldsofjms.com/crusade/reviews/index.htm )

EDIT: -= The site automatically merged both posts just now -- and here I was hoping to add the number of posts to get that PM option. Hope you don't mind. It wasn't supposed to be ONE LONG POST. And hey, it is actually thread related (whaddaya know?) =-

I own Christopher Franke's CD "Klemania", and I thought I'd share my opinion. It is three tracks -- two are just over 20 minutes each and the last is 3.5 minutes or so. So, to me, that means unless you have an audio editor (which I don't), you are stuck with the entire suite, even if you hate all but 3 minutes of it. I liked the start of track one, "Scattered Thoughts of a Canyon Flight." But then it became a bit too busy for my taste. Too cluttered and certainly too "remixy." But then it has a nice soft section (very B5-ish at that point). Overall I felt it was either forgettable or obnoxious. And the parts I didn't hate were not so great that I couldn't live without them. Especially given the amount of actual Babylon 5 music available.

I really like electronic music. Especially the stuff I grew up with. I enjoy Jarre's "Oxygene" and some of Wendy/Walter Carlos. His/her take on Holst's "Mars" in particular. (Btw, I wasn't trying to be crass. I honestly couldn't remember if he became a she, or if she became a he.) Some rare points of "Klemania" sounded just like it could be from Babylon 5. But even those were only one or two notes simply extended as a sort of pause between the busier moments. Now, to be honest, I had actually hoped it ALL would be like "Babylon 5" music. Not a copy of "B5," but something I could have listened to and thought "Yeah man...groovy...B5. Far out." (that was me being all Alice-in-Wonderland-Caterpillary w/a 60's twist). Most of this CD felt too poppy for my taste (as in pop).

Perhaps I am being too critical. But I have come to look at MY music differently of late. Since the availability of massive amounts of downloads, I have come to only keep what really "does it" for me. There is sooooo much available to us now, that we needn't settle for less than what we feel is fantastic. Otherwise we fill ouR music libraries with MB or GB of music we'll never even listen to.

-= I started a new thread about the B5 Books here. (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f2/babylon-5-short-stories-85706/#post1625736) =-

Caesius if you've only got Christopher Franke's "Klemania" CD, try some of his other works. Universal Soldier, Raven, Pacific Coast Highway. He also did the music for the anime Tenchi the Movie Tenchi Muyo in Love. And then we could bring up his work with Tangerine Dream and soundtracks for "Legend" and "The Keep".

There have never been any official releases of Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers, Babylon 5: A Call to Arms or Babylon 5: The Gathering. But I have a partial bootleg of The Gathering which you can find on the first page but it only contains the opening and closing titles by both Franke and Copeland.

Zoran just KEEP going, you did a great job on Sleeping in Light (still got some spies here and there) and i really like the custom booklet you did. Could you warn me via pm or onto my FB page (will give you my ID there) ?

And i'd like to thank all the people, The Music B5 Project have been a dream comes true and i'm very glad to see new bloods (and quite talented ones btw) are taking care of it...

Hello GFAN,

Season Soundtracks are quite different of Episodic ones, they only include some main theme from the most important episodes of a particular season : for instance Season 5 OST includes Objects at Rest (part 1 and 2), S05 Main Title (with and without narration), S05 End Title, Sleeping in Light (part 1, 2 and 3) and The Ragged Edge .... while an Episodic is focusing only on a single epidose (ask Christopher Franke for more informations bout such a thing).

Sincerly from B5 ....

A number of tracks and suites (and bits from the B5 game) are available at The Music of Babylon 5 (http://archive.firstones.com/musicofb5/music.html) (the site long ago was musicofb5.com but it died and seems to have been archived at firstones.com).

I have a bunch on CD: Late Delivery from Avalon, Walkabout, Shadow Dancing, Into The Fire (episode), No Surrender No Retreat, The Ragged Edge, The Coming of Shadows, The Long Night, Lines of Communication, Objects At Rest, And The Rock Cried Out No Hiding Place, Babylon 5 Volume 1, Babylon 5 Volume 2, Thirdspace, In The Beginning (a number of those I was lucky to get at €1 each, others at only a couple of €'s)

The following I have downloaded (all mp3 @ 192kbps bar one as flac): Chrysalis, Darkness Ascending, Endgame, Falling Towards Apothesis, Interludes And Examinations, Severed Dreams, Sleeping In Light, The Best Of Babylon 5, The Face Of The Enemy, The Fall Of Night, War Without End Part 1, War Without End Part 2, Z'HA'DUM (FLAC-EAC-CUE), all tracks on musicofb5.com (mix of 160kbps & 128kbps), Into The Fire Combat Simulator (short and long versions, short from musicofb5.com and long from elsewhere), River Of Souls

The only one I'm missing is "What Ever Happened to Mr Garibaldi"

Thanks,

It isn't original music, Rob. Per info on "Danger And Oportunity" at least - Soundtrack and many sound bites have been taken straight from the TV show. So, if you have the music from the other releases, then you already have it.

That doesn't mean someone hasn't done a rip from the game. But it just seems a waste to me - especially when, thanks to all the music that has been provided officially, I have more B5 music than I can ever listen to.
Good luck though.
