I think it's too heavy on original games in series, especially at the front of the list. Having Xenosaga but not Xenogears is a tragedy.

I'm glad XII is in it. As much as I bitch about it, one of the best criteria for knowing if you truly care about something is if it upsets you when others attack it. And, it does.

It think it goes without saying that games like Ever 17 aren't going to make it on any US based list, but I am honestly shocked that Disgaea didn't get a place. I do recall Game Informer giving it a pretty mediocre review at the time it was released, mostly based on graphics, but I think it's proven itself over time and has done a lot as far as getting other strategy rpgs released here.

I also think they included too many really new games. 6 titles released in this year seems like a lot to me.

Consider Tactics Ogre barely made the list, it's not all that surprising that no other SRPG (besides FFT) made the list either.

"Belonging there" implies that objectively ranking every game regardless of genre is a valid concept to begin with, which it isn't. It's easier (and more meaningful) to just look at it as a list of Game Informer staff's favourite games ranked according to how much they liked them, with a few shout-outs to old classics thrown in for good measure. Try to take it more seriously than that and you'll just end up asking yourself mind-numbing questions like what common ground exists between Super Mario Bros and Civilization that allowed GI to rank one against the other.

Very true. I really wish they had just done their usual Top 10s for the year. They might do that next issue, for all I know.

If they don't, I'm going to have more reason to believe that they are becoming more impersonal. First we lose their monthly, individual likes/dislikes and now their Top 10s. If we have. I don't even know if this is the November issue or December issue.

Magazines come so damn early or late to me.

I'm kind of surprised that the list makes it seem like the only worthwhile jRPG series is Final Fantasy (from what I read, anyway). Also, it's a bit ridiculous how a lot of the original titles of a series have made the list, despite them being quite terrible.

I'm mostly annoyed that Earthbound made an appearance but Mother 3 didn't. That's obviously because M3 didn't receive an official US release, though :(. Also, I know a certain person who'd be annoyed by the lack of SMT in the list (ps it's Skanker).

GI has always been very biased towards FF. It's pretty annoying.

If only that bias had made them put VI at #1 ;)

It's a 200 game list so anything not on it is 201, and the lowest score means you have the selection of highest ranking games.

But the values of games ON the list are ascribed by Game Informer. Since we don't know where Game Informer would rank unlisted games if they extended the list to reach them, it makes more sense to just say anything not in top 200 is 201, I think. That way it's still bad in terms of score to have games not on the list, but you don't get punished more severely the more games you have that aren't.

iirc once you get to Link to the Past they even say that it made the original Zelda even better or something like that in the magazine. I can't check though because it's being read in my bathroom atm. I agree that it's weird ordering.

- They remembered Vagrant Story and EarthBound, so yeah, all is well
- HOW THE FUCK THERE IS NOT A SINGLE DRAGON QUEST IN THAT LIST WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS I MEAN COME ON

Seriously, GTA3 as #4????!!!! I have absolutely no problem with classics dominating the list. There are so many games still being made that are just derivatives of classic titles, and the original idea is where the credit is due.

Who else would it be popular with? The only other game in its genre that made the list is Tactics Ogre: Final Fantasy edition, so not including the original would have just been rude.

Without the top 200 games, it would be a slimmer magazine. I do not agree with the list, and I tend to stay away from FPS games because it's not my type of games and I play really weird games (and I'm pretty sure everyone has their favorite weird game)... There is hardly any games that are coming out state-wise... everything that I want is coming out in Japan. >.<

I tend to steer away from 'Top (insert number) lists' in magazines as some of them can be biased in their ratings of games.

Albeit, there are some on that list I do agree with (Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, Legend of Zelda Link to the Past and others), I would have to query some placings though.

Still, it's up to the reader to decide if they agree/disagree with the listings.
