I was thinking it'd be kind of fun to get a forum consensus of the best in video game soundtracks for the year 2009.

Put your favorite soundtracks from games that came out this year in this thread, using your lists, we'll create a list of the best of 2009 in this very space.

Keep your lists relatively short if at all possible; if you want to rank them, by all means do so, but don't feel pressured to do it.

Does Beatles Rock Band count? :) But to be serious, I can't think of anything right now that I'd give a wholehearted recommendation for. Maybe a tentative one for Bionic Commando.

Has anyone listened to Scribblenauts, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, or Uncharted 2? I haven't gotten around to those, but they seem likely to have good soundtracks.

Assassin's Creed 2 by ten billion miles.

The Modern Warfare 2 [to-be-realesed-hopfully-soon] soundtrack was a surprissingly good one. I quite enjoyed Mirrors Edge as it fitted the city feel of things quite well but I didn't think too much of it. [Forgetting video games for a moment - I abosolutly loved the District 9 soundtrack :D]

If we include unreleased soundtracks, so far my list would be:
1. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - James Hannigan
2. Bayonetta
3. Ninja Blade
4. Magna Carta 2
5. Uncharted 2
6. Grandia Online (Haven't listened but its coming out this year and I am looking forward to it).

I haven't played much of this year's games. Here's the best list I can come up with:

1. Halo 3: ODST - Jazzy, noir-ish soundtrack. Halo always has good music.

2. Banjo-Kazooie: N&B - I know the game was released last year, but the soundtrack album itself came out this year. Classic Banjo-Kazooie material rendered by an orchestra, plus some fun new stuff.

For me it has to be Modern Warfare 2 (If the OST will come out)

I noticed something about the MW2 rips though...its has a terrible dynamic range compression so its clipped for loudness.

I agree the soundtrack is great. Now we need to have a complete soundtrack released on CD and I would buy it. The rips out there are not very good quality.

The only ones I can think of at the moment is Punch Out!! Wii and Tales of Monkey Island.

I always wondered since the release why the 2nd record label is SE instead of AWR Records. Maybe thats the reason of its reprint? ;)

Even though I don't have the game yet, I did check out the Assassin's Creed II soundtrack based on these comments (Amazon has the MP3 download up for under $10). It is very good, a fair bit better than the first, I think.

Modern Warfare 2 has a couple of good tracks, but a lot of generic orchestral filler.

What, nobody's mentioned Blazblue: Calamity Trigger's soundtrack? Also Continuum Shift's, since the arcade version has been released and the music has been mercilessly ripped from it by some awesome people. Definitely the best soundtrack of 2009 IMO, and you got it for free just by preordering the game!

it's so amazing, my soundtracks always seem to represent the year i have each year, and vice versa.

Six unbelievably Sad soundtracks that i hope to leave behind, and move forward to more rewarding memories next year.

Agreed. I haven't even played the game, but the NeoTokyo OST is AMAZING.

I do agree on the Modern Warfare Rips being to distorted. I used a gem called "MP3gain" to reduce the gain on each track and it sounds a whole lot better now. Try that!

Hell yeah "Uncharted 2" takes the crown for me.

Uncharted 2 needs a complete soundtrack release on CD not these lame Itunes releases. Having just finished uncharted 2 I totally agree that the ost is amazing.

I haven't heard a vast range of the new game soundtracks this year but my shortlist is:

1: Killzone 2

2: Lord of Vermillion

3: Red Faction 3: Guerrilla

4: Mirror's Edge

5: BLOOD of BAHAMUT

Wow, I don't know how I missed NeoTokyo, but that is some high quality music. I'm thinking easily the best Video Game soundtrack, and possibly one of the better releases in all music for the whole of 2009. Thanks a ton for the recommendation.
