Final Fantasy games have some of the best voice acting around.

Do you think it needs to have the Japanese voices?

No.

The majority of the people answering "yes" don't understand a single bit of the Japanese language and are nothing more than Weeaboo retards.

Tanis

Yes.

I like to have the option, as long as there's subtitles.

More so on SE games because the English voice actors have a habit of sucking.

Hynad

Not in FF XII they don't.

And what is the point of having Japanese voice acting that you can't even understand.

Because you don't have to listen to bad English voice acting?

Japanese voice actors tend to over-act and exaggerate everything, with high pitched voices... Yeah, that's muuuch better. _

FF12 was pretty decent, I'll give you that.

That's what SUBTITLE are for.
Just because something isn't voice in English doesn't mean I won't watch it or play it.

There's more than one foreign more I dig that has never come state side.
And, no I don't just mean anime.

Yes, I'd rather have some Japanese nut-job than freaking TEE-DUS & have you PLAYED FF4 for the DS?
My god, what is this?
The PS1 era with 'Resident Evil 1' live-action movies or something?
I had to play the game on mute anytime that shit would start.

I've heard worse.

In the 'Klonoa' remake for the Wii, the English is bad...like really bad.

If Cam Clarke is one of the voice actors in this game, I'm gonna boycott it.

In my opinion, Voice acting in games, is a hit and miss affair at most of the times. Personally, I prefer the traditional method for character interaction with others. Text boxes. Call me old fashioned in that regard, I'm a Generation X... not a Generation Y.

Hynad

It is indeed hit and miss. But when they hit, I find the games are much more enjoyable. Games like Uncharted 2 wouldn't be the same without the stellar voice acting.

When it comes to Final Fantasy, the only game [in the main series] that didn't do it for me was X. XII had great voice acting. So it's a 50/50 ratio so far.

I'm also with you Xiahou Dun when it comes to games like Zelda. But I wouldn't mind if the NPCs had voice. Just as long as Link remains his silent self.

Depends on the game for me, Metal Gear Solid for example will lose it's mystique if it doesn't have voice acting, same with Koudelka & Silent Hill 1. FFXII has an awesome voice acting, it really depends on the image & the presentation of the game, if XIII have voice acting I think Japanese is the only option in english will sound very awkward, but yeah texts boxes are a better option because you can't miss with that xD, unless it has a shitty script.

i understand Japanese.. but sadly i can't read it..
i would really love to have a dual audio for this, it's BR after all, it wouldn't hurt to have one more audio track for the game..

I also speak Japanese, but am very rusty on reading kanji. I've found that overall, English dubs, irrespective of the quality of the work, lack a distinct quality of translation. The way an English actor interprets a phrase or an emotion can make a character completely different from what was intended. I have ordered and will be playing the game in Japanese, just to avoid the risk of not having the option in the English release.

Also, I was reading and writing Japanese long before the term "weeaboo" was coined or anime was even broadcast in the US, so the overgeneralization was, at least in my case, horribly wrong.

I really don't care if the game doesn't have the option for Japanese because I think the voice acting in the final fantasy games have been fine. Although I do think it should at least be an option for those who prefer it on the PS3 version with all the extra space Blu Ray allows.

Koudelka was a rare gem of a game where the voice acting was spot on. It really got the mood going and made you want to play more. FFXII had few good moments like when Myrn gets posessed. I realise its all preference but for me the best games have no speech or the speech is done in the origional language.

Yeah, I understand you, when it comes to RPG's is better to always use text boxes since there's a lot of script and text to be performed. But in other kind of games voice acting is essential like I said before, in games like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill 1, voice acting adds more atmosphere since the kind of setting is somewhat realistic, that's why I think the Image & Presentation is very important when it comes to measure the performance of the Voice Acting, even if it's in the original language, in Final Fantasy games most of the times the acting in original language will be better since japanese actors tend to exaggerate things and the anime style give merit to it. That's why I think XII english acting kicks ass, because it breaks this rutine.
English voice acting in JRPG's is possible but it needs good execution, a great director and a good cast, but I think the direction is more important than the cast.

I'm kind of repeating myself xD. But I want to get clear that there are a lot of things to consider before making conclusions about this aspect that a lot videogames from nowadays have in common.

i would like the option of dual audio since blu ray already allows so much space, but i dont mind the eng dubs for this game, like sazh i like his eng voice a lot more than the jp version, but i hope there could be an option to keep the jp insert songs and theme songs and stuff. cuz eng transed songs arent the greatest usually, cept kingdom hearts themes, but thats cuz hikki is pro :P

YES! It just feels so much more authentic seeing media in it's original form.

It's strange watching media where the mouths and voices don't match. Moreso, the gestures produced out of speaking one language tend to feel out of place when translated to another. E.g. Fingers up in Y shape for portraits/win.

I guess in the end, the answer to the language preference comes down to: could you stand watching the TGS 2009 trailer when it was translated to English?

And I don't see the problem with an "option". Don't both sides win?

Ironfungus

It should have Japanese Audio option simply due to the fact that the English Theme song is horrible sounding (IMO). Otherwise characters voices don't matter as I'd probably go through again just to hear it all.

Here's a trailer of XIII that I've never seen, I found a major cacophony the conjunction of the horrible voice acting along with the song that it's playing.

Disturbing.

Why does everyone want Japanese voices?

I prefer Japanese voices in most of the JRPG's mainly because they usually give a more consistent and more fitting acting in their own games/anime/movies. It's simply that, If I'm going to watch anime or any japanese movie, fansub, when I listen a dialog from a japanese script in english, I laugh or I vomit, it depends on how it is executed.

I usually find japanese voices in anime to be a little over the top and dramatic so I prefer dubs, I even like Tidus' voice :O. But to each their own I guess.

Not usually, they are always dramatic xD, but that's what makes them kind of unique & not that laughable.

Compare these videos, this is a famous scene in Megaman X4

EDIT: Of course there are exceptions about my preferences over the acting such as, FFXII & the whole Metal Gear Solid games.
