First off, I'm going to get the bit with the graphics out of the way because I like this game and would rather leave on a good note. The graphics are fairly disappointing. They're almost a step down from the Tekken 5 I've been playing for years on the PSN. As disappointing as that IS there's a reason for this, they admitted that they had to considerably lessen the graphical quality from their originally planned, arcade perfect port because some knuckle head at Namco decided to tell Microsoft that they'd let the 360 have Tekken 6 as well. The problem with that, as we all know, is that while the PS3 discs hold almost 50gb, the wittle 360 discs only hold 8.5gb. Outdated? Sure, but lets not forget it's a Microsoft product so don't tell it's fans that. Microsoft is the master of making people think last decade's pro is still top notch this year. So anyways, the game, regrettably, had to be dropped in quality with the grace that one drops a baby. They've added several graphical filters like motion blur and whatnot to try to smooth the game out a bit and...I guess I can understand that it would have cost a lot to develop two different versions but...man...it was a MAJOR disappointment when their faces went back to the PS2 faces. *sigh* I'm going to move on to happier business before I start crying.

Controls, let's talk about controls. I tried the game with my controller, I tried the game with the fight stick. In both modes the game handles like Tekken, which is a good thing. Everything's super responsive and it recognizes up and forward a lot earlier so that you don't jump straight up so much anymore when twitchy. The new campaign mode doesn't control AS well until you learn the controls for it however. But, I'll open that can of worms later. All in all, controls are pretty damn good.

Sound? Sound ain't bad. There's a lot of new music. Some of it just basic techno unh-unh-unh stuff. There is a rather interesting song though where it's a techno rendtion of a yoddle. Not that good but...I think it has to be the first time that's happened so...yeah for historic events. The dialogue is not bad, I wish Namco wasn't afraid of black people so much so I can hear Eddie or Bryan not sound like they're about to talk about the weather, but it's pretty good.

Let's get into the different features they've added on from Dark Resurrection for the PSN shall we?

Endings: Yeah! Endings are back! I know that's not a major thing but...I like my fighting games to have a story, even if they're incredibly stupid. Of course, the mode that gives you the CGI ending animations is hidden in a different mode, but once you unlock that particular mode it's literally 4 fights and that character's ending. So...welcome back.

Character Customizer Upgrade: Wow. First off, I'll say this, the clothing is a little disappointing at first until you learn how to get more. But it's such an upgrade. Especially the hair. I know it sounds silly but I'm so amazed by the hair options. You pick the base of the hair. Then pick how you want the front left to look, then front right, then the back. I was able to turn Steve Fox into an extremely well built version of myself in minutes. (Yes, a well built guy version of myself, because Steve Fox is <3). I was also able to customize some crazy cute new characters such as Alisa and Zafina, but in the end, I will be customizing everyone! I love it. The items are a bit expensive but, when Campaign Mode hands them out like crazy for free as well as showers you in gold (wait...), you'll get them in no time.

Bosses: I love bosses. There's nothing like getting to the end of a stage and fighting a boss. Unless it's a fighting game. There is nothing that throws me off in this game like making my way through a tournament of humans only to face off against Azazel. Azazel, for those who haven't seen, is a giant crystal dragon. Seriously. It has your basic punches and kicks and it uses them...when it's not firing lasers all over the place, making spikes come out of the ground and also commanding huge swarms of locusts to chase you down. It's EXTREMELY out of place and a pain in the ass. You'll tear through the game and just get stopped by this thing. It's like running down a hall into a closed door.

Campaign Mode: Soul Calibur may have stupidly gotten rid of their story mode when they went from 3 to 4 but Tekken gained one. It's pretty good too. You play as Lars with Alisa in two and you go from stage to stage fighting groups of enemies, Streets of Rage style and fight a boss at the end. It's all in this massive story line about two warring factions that ravage the planet making everyone pick sides. It's fun. The last few stages are ridiculously hard but the game makes up for it by giving you a ton of money and constantly throwing you costume bits. The costume bits you get in Campaign are cooler too because equipping them gives you stat boosts. For example, you might get stronger, enemies might drop more money, or you could even get a small percentage of your hits causing electrical damage and making them spasm for a bit as shocks circle their body.

Home Items: I've had the game since Tuesday night. I've already unlocked the following items in Home. A giant Tekken 6 arcade cabinet that I can use to launch the game from Home which is cool when I'm bsing with some random sap on their that might say they're better. We can just hop in. Two t-shirts. A red Tekken 6 logo shirt with the logo front and center. And a t-shirt with a shiny 6 made out of diamonds on the front and the Tekken 6 logo on the top middle of the shirt on the back. I also unlocked Kazuya's signature gloves as well. And that's in four days of playing. I love how much stuff for Home Namco throws into their games.

Improved Ghost Mode: They did it! One of my favorite options from the PSP version of Tekken 5 that disappeared in the PSN rerelease is back! Let's say you have a friend that has Tekken 6. That friend plays all the time, customizes their characters and has leveled them like mad. Well YOU can go into Online Mode, pick their name, and choose to download ghosts from all their characters they regularly play as. Then when you've downloaded the ghosts, go into Ghost Mode and you stand a decent chance of playing those ghosts as you make your way through that mode.

So, all in all, beyond the graphic drop for the nonsensical cross platforming, the game's pretty good. It's really hard to see it as an upgrade with the graphics almost downgraded from 5, but once you play it for a while, and see how the other areas have improved it's still worth a play. I enjoy the hell out of it personally.

You do know that the Motion Blur option makes the resolution of the game drop to near 480p territory, and that by not enabling this option, the game retains it's 720p arcade look, right?

xD I unfortunately have spent money on it! There are pros to it, but they are very rarely found to me. I one of the greatest friends on Home, and we play a lot together, as I have also met a lot of other gamers out there, but it's hard to find actual gamers, and not people just fuckin' around.

It is very fun to do that, as well though~

I have the Tekken 2 PSone classic on my PS3/PSP and I also have Tekken Dark Resurrection, they're fun games, but honestly I always find myself going right back to either Street Fighter IV or Mortal Kombat 2. I really liked your Tekken 6 review and see you made some strong points, but I just can't see myself buying another Tekken game for a very long time.

PS3 needs better games for me to even get on the fence of whether I should buy something that expensive or not. So far, only one game comes to mind: MGS4. I don't feel like buying a home console just for one game either. If I had friends that owned a PS3, it might sway me a bit but until then, I won't need it. I already have a Blu-Ray player so I need a really good reason why I will be satisfied with the purchase and not be satisfied with the 360 anymore.

It is when they down-scale files so they can fit. What happens then is they stream the graphics as you play meaning texture pop up when you enter a room.

So with Tekken they couldn't stream texture...so they had to down-scale the textures on the game to fit in the 7gb game. Therefore making what they were supposed to look like .


As for being identical hell no...

PS3 is by far better if they want it to be. Its all about programming . Its basically them dispensing certain info to what processors, the gpu and the ram. Therefore look at the game metal gear for example they used on small spu processor in the PSfor just cloth, hair and wind movement.

The PS3 is capable of more detail as well as due to blu-ray they have no need to compress data therefore, Uncharted 2.

Yeah I got the 360 one and online mode is kind of laggy, which makes it irritating. Has been announced that there will be a patch to fix that along with a co-op mode for scenario campaign (I still don't understand how they - couldn't - have implemented that in the actual game in the first place).

But yeah, otherwise a worthy addition to the series in my eyes. Anyone on Live wanting to wage a fight? heh. ^_<

The correct way to use Eddy:
Take your right index and middle finger, put them on the X and O button, (or. . . whatever it may be in your case)
Then, take your left index finger and hold down on the D-Pad. Simultaneously smash your right fingers on X and O and you will see: Eddy is unstoppable!

Yeah, I murdered someone who was using Eddy and I was using Hwoarong. But I just think he was garbage. Then again, Hwoarong is a lot easier to use than what I can remember and I just wouldn't let him up. But I'm sure he just wasn't good.

I played Tekken 6 for about two hours on my friend's PS3 last week. I think i spent 45minutes staring at loading screens. First I tried the Campaign mode and hated it. I watched about 40 minutes of loading screen/cinematics and actually played for about five minutes. Is there an option for English voices? The chainsaw girl's voice was annoying as shit--plus I had to read every fucking thing she said...

Then I spent most of the remainder of my two hours trying to find a character who played anything like what I remember (Tekken 3/Tag). And staring at loading screens between EVERY FIGHT. Once I got Kazuya and plowed through his Arcade mode until I reached Jin, who two-shot me. Repeatedly. After about fix or six tries (I think the load screens were longer than the fights), I stopped playing. I like SF4 better. It's definitely more accessible.

I wouldn't know; I don't own a ps3. My friend was just as bothered about the load times as I was, and he doesn't own a 360, so I'd have to believe that the load times we experienced in this game weren't the norm for ps3.
