I don't want to sound like a total authority on what should be or ungreatful to the uploaders, but I can't understand why some people are still uploading to the now seemingly more than worthless Rapidshare.

Between doing my normal activities, I spent half my day trying to get a "place in line" (free user) to download something. Fantastic, I finally got to it, but after downloading so much my connection flickered and the download stopped. DOWNLOAD LIMIT EXCEEDED. Not a huge deal since I didn't have to wait too long before I could restart my download, but still.. half a day to get a place to download the file?

Megaupload, Sendspace, Filefactory, and Mediafire are much better options and I'm sure there are several others that could be mentioned.

I love rapidshare, uploads my files without dying on me and cheap premium account. Most of my downloading is done through rapidshare links, so i'm very happy with it.

Megaupload is a good site, but my upload always freeze and a premium account is too expensive (twice as much as rapidshare).

Sendspace and Filefactory are garbage to me, very slow download speeds and wouldn't waste my money on a premium account there as others have the same problems i have with them.

Mediafire is good, but it sometimes corrupts my uploads, so that's why i give it a miss. Cheap premium account, tho.

Rapidshare has been total bullshit lately. The downloads are hideously slow, the waiting periods between the downloads seem to have become longer, and I have to retry each link ten times before a free slot finally becomes available.

Megaupload has never let me down so far. You don't even have to pay anything - merely registering already yields you some perks, like shorter waiting time.

People use rapidshit...I mean rapidshare for the fact that if the user's uploads continue to get clicks, downloaded whatever you want to call it. It can help the normal user get rapid points (I think that's the name of it.) to get premium accounts.

I stick with megaupload for the fact that I can upload close to 1GB per file. For free users of course. 1GB and up is for premium users. The lucky bastids.

Totally agreed.

I've had pretty much all my Mediafire links die in comparison to none of my Megaupload links which have been up for a year or two on other sites.

Also why should I pay eight dollars for a service that throttles your download speeds and only has 200MB uploads when I can use a service that's free and has a 1GB upload limit has never throttled my upload/download speeds?

Hate Rapidshare. If the file says it will take 25 minutes, it ends up taking over an hour, never changing the estimated time.

For downloading I prefer Megaupload. I always seem to get 1.2Mb download rate. Though recently they've readded the waiting period AND you can no longer download 2 files at the same time (unregistered).

But for uploads I prefer Mediafire. I find it more reliable than M-U and the links seem to remain active longer. As for downloading, it's not as fast as M-U, but you can do more than 1 file at a time.

But I agree with your first point. I can't understand why people use Rapidshare anymore. Though I suspect it depends where you live in the world. I love Megaupload, yet some people ask for RS links because they can't work M-U. Really? Again, must be a regional thing or something.

I prefer MU/MF myself.

Then again I also use mass downloaders so I can leave and let it just run.

I don't usually mind rapidshare. But then again, I don't try to download 40 soundtracks at once. The only problem I run into is that sometimes it will say there aren't any slots left for free users, but I can handle waiting (or trying some other time than saturday at 10AM or weekdays at 7PM which is when I run into that) The bottom line is that i'm just happy that someone took the time to upload something they wanted to share, and as long as I can trust that the site they uploaded to won't generate a virus or all sorts of unsavory advertisements I'll do what I have to so I can download it. I hate it when people whine about which site someone uploaded to, unless it just totally doesn't work. Megaupload works fine (except that they hate us?), and so does mediafire. I will say, however, that I do like Mediafire's interface a bit better. It doesn't seem to be as much of a hassle.

Also, as a tip for anyone out there using a smartphone to download soundtracks (like I do on occasion and it works just fine) , you don't have to deal with download limits if you refresh your 3G connection to get a different IP address out of it (i.e. turn it off then on again, or toggle airplane mode.) I use my phone mainly to download two files at once from rapidshare--one on the computer, one on my phone.

I've been using Rapidshare for years as a premium user and think its one of the best download services out there. Its relatively cheap to subscribe to (think its 16 euro for three months.........which is next to nothing!). Its superfast and allows for multiple downloads. And something about it just feels way more solid and reliable and secure than many of the other servers out there.

As far as free services go, I think Mediafire is excellent. The uploads and downloads are speedy, but I've lost many a file that I've uloaded to there!

I think the worst service is probably Hotfile. I once paid for a subscription to it and the download speed was the same, if not worse, than the free service!!
And I'm not a fan of the pop-up ads that come with MegaUpload. Pop-up ads make me think of malware......

If I were uploading anything now, I'd use Rapidspread, as it throws the file to a variety of different servers and accommodates downloaders better :)

I concur, slot cap for free users. Low and unstable download bandwidth.

As far as I am concerned, Rapidshare is fucked up!

Thank whoever, megaupload works as it does.

I generally use megaupload for uploads because people tend to complain about Rapidshare a lot so I try to give them a download that doesn't contain those frustrations yet is convenient for me. I'm not the biggest fan of Rapidshare either because of slow download speeds but if I'm only after one OST instead of a multi-part OST RS gets the job done.

I prefer MU though because it works faster and more reliably and doesn't get as screwy as Mediafire can be.

^^This.

I've been holding back from posting here as I find rapidshare extremely convenient and I don't want to get into an argument over the subject. Suffice to say it's never buggered-up on me while uploading (unlike megaupload and rapidspread), and if you download stuff from anywhere other than the Shrine, it's so widespread as to make the small premium fee totally worthwhile.

jakob.nelson and joyrider seem to have hit the nail on the head. Many of the moaners appear to be those who don't upload much themselves.. Having said that, I do pay attention to these gripes and I will try to post more alternatives in future.

I personally prefer Megaupload, simply because it's the only uploading site I can think of that lets you upload up to 1GB at a time with only a member account. Very handy when you rip Sonic albums regularly, like me.

people complaining about rapidshare cause of it's free user service. get a job and pay the $8 a month. you seem to download enough from rapidshare to complain about it.

You're a jerk and an idiot. Why would anyone with a brain pay Rapidshare $8 a month just to steal someone's work? If someone is going to pay someone, pay the original creator! What an asshole.

I Agree with this angry man lol. Rapidshare does suck. It's D/L's take forever as opposed to Mediafire it takes 30secs~3Mins. Same goes for Megaupload, Easy Share. Sendspace and Filefactory takes like 15 mins ~ 30 mins just to d/l a 100 mb file. Depositfiles is ok but waiting 30~50 mins to d/l again is plain stupid.

I've never really had problems with rapidshare. sure I'll swear whenever I don't get free slots on demand but no hard feelings. I know I'll get whatever eventually. yay jdownloader, etc.

also rapidshare is fast, so is megaupload. mediafire is a bit slow but you can download lots of things at once.

filefactory freezes sometimes, not a huge fan but it's kinda fast :x

also 4shared seems kinda neat. really fast. never really had problems with it.

edit: ahaha the forum software took the inequality signs and ran with it like html

I'm alright with rapidshare, I guess. I do hate it when I have to wait, but usually there's a time of day (usually late at night) when I can download. May it be one file per night, I'll get it finished. Yeah, it's sorta slow, but what can you do. My problem with getting a premium account is the fact that everyone uploads to everything (Mega Upload, Mediafire, etc).

I use Mediafire. A lot of people have been saying one file corrupting or such, but it doesn't take me that long (unless I have been away from the computer) to upload a track.

that would explain why some say it is the best and others get put in an endless que.

Tip for Mediafire: even if you don't want to pay for a premium membership, be sure to sign up for a free account. As long as you log into your account once a month, your links won't be deleted.

For Megaupload, getting a free account extends the time downloads remain active, but there's no way to stop them from eventually getting deleted for inactivity.

I doubt Rapidshit gives priority to American IP addresses. I'm American and I've been trapped in free download hell for RS-only albums.

But yeah, stop using Rapidshit. Wait times, slow downloads, and link deletion policies (for non-premium members) are all terrible compared to similar services.

Yeah, to me, rapidshare's not that good either. Megaupload's not bad for download speed, and mediafire is the best for that in my opinion. As for uploads, I really don't know.

Of course, my crappy ISP has me paying for 768k dsl but I never get more than 300, lol. Only reason I never switched is that it's the only one we can get.

It's all business. Rapidshare realize they have the largest number of files so they force your hand to get a premium account. Megaupload will follow suit if they ever trump Rapidshare.

I'd just like to say that download speed of rapidshare is not "unstable",
but they are varying it regularly on purpose. I think, their idea is to limit more your bandwith so that there's less room to download other stuff at same time.
For instance if each second it vary from 100 kb to 0 kb/s, and that on average it's 50 kb/s , but your max download speed is 200 kb , then your remaining bandwith to download other stuff at same time is 100 kb only. I hate rapidshare these times, they should realize that their business do not rely on "premium" users , but also on free users. If the free service is too crappy, they might loose "premium" customers (hopefully).

Currently I prefer megaupload, but there was a time they were nagging all users to install a toolbar, which was unbearable. Anyway, multiple uploader are a better solution than relying on a single service.

I hate when people use rapidshare. I barely get 100 kb/s and I'm lucky if they even let me download the file. On MegaU and just about every other site i get 600 kb/s to 1.5mb/s
