I thought seeing David's time was coming to an end, it would be nice to kick start Matt's thread early and take opinions on what they've seen or not seen so far.

Elements we've seen so far are of course his outfit (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8158556.stm), the new Sonic Screwdriver (http://www.denofgeek.com/television/290333/doctor_who_new_pics_of_matt_smith_and_new_sonic_sc rewdriver.html), the new 'retro' TARDIS (http://lifetheuniverseandcombom.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-colour-tardis-windows-for-season-5.html), and most recently of course the new logo below:

So what are people making of Moffat's changes within Doctor Who, and what are we expecting to see throughout the course of 2010?

Feel free to natter.... wait for it.... now!
[I'll be giving my opinions once a few others have said theirs. Then I'm not doing everything within one post! :P]

The changes look ok - Do you know if they've released any pictures of what the inside of the TARDIS will look like (I personally prefered the layout in the Doctor Who Movie with Paul Mcgann compared to the current innards, but that might just be my personal aesthetic sense there).

There's talk of the TARDIS interior being revealed in about a month's time. However Blue Peter has a competition for under 12's to design their own console room which will appear alongside the other 'options' he goes through before landing on the finished product.

I personally don't like the new logo, as it seems a step backward, not a step forward. All the links above pointing out new TARDIS' and outfits and so on, cry out 'retro'... which is nice in short bursts. But an entire redesign based on what's old and not new?

I don't know, just seems to me like Moffat is trying to remove everything the last 5 years has built on. :S

I think a lot of hate for the new series may come from who only know Tennant as their doctor. The way I see it is that Steven Moffat, in my opinion, wrote the best episodes of the series so far (Blink, The Girl In The Fireplace). So by making him the show runner I think it'll onto a great start. That along with the fact that I like the idea of dropping all the Davies-era characters. Seriously, if I see Mickey one more time. :/

Incidentally, Davies wrote the worst Doctor Who episode of the reboot imo- Love & Monsters anyone?

Should be good!

I will give the new Doctor a fair chance once it airs. I don't know what to make of it so far. I can say that I didn't like the early glimpses of Chris Eccleston preferring the Doctor before him. I didn't like Tennant when first shown prefering Eccleston. I grew to love both incarnations by both actors. I can say that I'm not big on always going younger for the new doctors. Eventually if the trend continues we will get a 10 year old kid playing the Doctor.

My favorite Doctor so far is Eccleston (my first episode had him as the Doctor), but I am eager to see where this new Doctor/actor takes us. Sure, Tennant had a great ride, but it was bound to come to an end sometime, and that time is now. So we shouldn't worry until we the first episode of the new season.

This season has been the best so far. Because of Amy Pond, the sex bomb that finally outdid Rose Tyler.

Matt Smith is the best doctor since the 2005 reboot. Definately brings back a Troughton/Baker level of madness to the character...plus Moffat's scripts were almost invariably the best during the Russell T Davies years, so having him as head writer is as significant a change as the actor in the lead.

And yes, Karen Gillan is gorgeous! (And fact hunters, can be seen as one of the Syballine Sisterhood in the Series 4 episode The Fires of Pompeii)
