The English, Japanese, and Americans make games but why doesn't the rest of the world?

They consume the games in there millions, and celerate them with concerts and strong media coverage of their own.

You could say the same things about Music and Movies, why don't we ever hear foreign music or see foreign movies?

Because we don't import their stuff? So does that mean the other countries are making games but we just don't play them?

Silicon Knights? Remedy? Starbreeze Studios? Guerrilla Games? Ubisoft?

There are tons of video game companies that aren't based in the US, the UK, or Japan. You probably do play their games and just don't know where the companies that made them are based out of.

There are a ton of foreign music and movies out there too. In fact, I'm pretty sure India makes more movies than any other place in the world.

I've just look at the studios. I never knew they were foreign.

It's a start but still just a gnats arse when compared to vast empire of america and japan.

Assassin's Creed was developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Also, the Prince of Persia trilogy and the Tom Clancy games.

No, not really. He asked for 1, just 1 big name example of a game that came from a country not in his "big 3."

I'm not bringing this up to attack him, I'm doing it so my post following his makes sense again :p

yeah i didn't look at the studios he listed at first. i thought they were US and JAP designers using cheap manufacturing in China.

taking the term ''made in'' a different way from what i meant as being designed by not just put together.

this minute list is refreshing, but i am still interested in why more countries havent used games as a ''visual art form''.

the size of the list verifies just how little input there is from other countries.

There is not a similar game to it. I assure you :)

That's a list of foreign game companies off the top of my head. It's by no means definitive. A few others are 2K Australia, Bioware, A2M, NC Soft, and Nexon. I assure you there are many more.

Canada in particular is a big up and comer in game development. They had their own section at the TGS this year.

Some of my favorite games are made by Polish and Ukrainian developers.

it looks like Canada, Sweden, and Finland are doing well.

i think it's to do with attitude and infrustucture. we see games as being a big deal and we live in countries where you make businesses and products.

but maybe they don't have the money or skills to enter into the business.

perhaps the countries don't see games as a huge business opportunity, and they would rather specialise in other things.

the best cars come from Germany and Japan. and we think of Paris as being the fashion capital. Prehaps 'we are just better at it' and it is our culture and speciality. the other countries are happy to import our games, and maybe occasionally make 1 or 2 free to play mmorpgs.

or maybe the guys just come and work for US companies.

I'm pretty sure population and per-capita GDP/PPP are the biggest influences.

Large population have more of a talent and consumer pool to draw from. Wealthy populations can afford such luxuries.

Crysis and Lair were both made by German companies!

Most of the games made in other countries outside of US are made for US consumers, for example take Max Payne, if it took place in Helsinki instead of New York and Max would named be Matti instead. He worked for the KRP and everyone talked finnish n' stuff, it wouldn't have sold 7.000.000 copies world wide, and it wouldn't have been such a hit especially in the US.

There's a few developers from Central Europe, like JoWood, Paradox or Bluebyte (from Austria, Sweden and Germany respectively).
These developers though only develop for PC. Most European developers do that. Europe doesn't take consoles that seriously except for the UK.

^this. Games are made everywhere. They are only written in major languages cause you generally want people to understand the story. Though STALKER kept the original language for some parts and provided the translation for others, which I felt was cool.
