i'm in the process of going exclusively flac but i only really use music for my ipod so i was wondering if anyone here has successfully found a way to drag flac files to the ipod and have it auto convert to 320k mp3's?

Why convert when you can preserve lossless quality?

thank you. i didnt know the ipod was capable of running lossless in mp4. i have a 120 gig and can pretty much store everything ever downloaded as 320k mp3's. as alc's it will probably be quite tight. i shall experiment.

however, is it possible to drag flac into itunes or say media monkey and it will auto convert them to alc / mp4 to the ipod?

I don't know if iTunes can even read .flac files let alone convert them. I personally prefer to use foobar2000 to convert FLAC or other lossless formats into .mp3, mp4/.m4a.

foobar is too hardcore for me. i've got media monkey so i'll try that for now for converting.

im very impressed with the quality of ape and its size. if i convert to m4a / mp4 will it honour what ape is doing. compressed while losseless or is apple horrible and its more like a wav file?

thanks.

I use WMA Lossless best compression rate usually. And what do you mena by quality lossless is lossless the quality should be exactly the same.

yes, i have a friend who has explained it all to me. i was judging it by bitrate but i understand now thats not how the codecs work. it is loosless regardless of the bitrate.

How will you be able to even hear the quality difference when listening from an iPod?
