French release: Unknown
US release: Unknown

''Three artworks and a fact sheet. That's the content of the leak that gave us the very first informations on Tomb Raider 9 a few hours ago, revealing to the world what Crystal Dynamics has been up to since they decided - once again - to reboot the legendary franchise. The details are surprising. For exemple we learn that the new adventures of Lara Croft will be, for the first time, Rated M. Better yet, the game will take place in an open world - a mysterious Japanese island inhabited by strange creatures. A new perspective for the series, a little scary too. But nevertheless exciting as the possibilities are vast. Hit the link to discover the first visuals and details about Lara Croft's next adventure.

The Plot - When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hiden of the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strenght, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island's past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

Hunt or be hunted - Evade outsmart, track and kill the mysterious enemies that hunt you as prey.

Survival Action - Brutally attack and defend as you fight to survive through visceral one on one melee combat.

Strategic Weapons - Gain an advantage in combat by finding an array of different melee and ranged weapons including a variety of guns and the hunters ultimate weapon, the bow.

Creative Survival - React and adapt to the island by using only that wich you can salvage from the environment like climbing axes, rope, and machetes that can be used to unlock new traversal and combat gameplay options.

Free Movement - Scrale up a vertical cliff wall, sprint and leap across a huge chasm, steer mid air to land a misderected jump there is no one right way to traverse, survive, and explore the harsh enviroment of the island.

One Cohesive World - The diverse multi region island is an open playground alive with creatures, weather and natural events.

Origin Story - This new Tomb Raider concept reboots the franchise by exploring the origins of Lara Croft's transformation into a hardened adventurer as unravel the story behind the island's mysterious past.''

It's always weird when series float back and forth between numbered entries and named entries (*cough*Guitar Hero*cough*).

Still, I'm really hoping the next Silent Hill is 6.

The monster pics look like SH monsters.

Based off the description... looks a cross over between Tomb Raider and Siren...

I was reminded of Forbidden Siren aswell but I was also reminded of TR chronicles, since they had levels with odd creatures in it too.

How many times are they going to try to reinvent this series and have it turn out to still be shitty? X_X

I actually like the new Tomb Raider games...

every new "edition" of the TR games have a breast reduction on lara.

I think it's better honestly. Otherwise, she would hardly be able to do the things she can do without knocking herself out. Or even being able to reach some of the ledges without her breasts magically entering a wall. And with the updated graphics, she looks more "real". So the size she does have now not only look realist, but they're realistically HUGE!

But they are magical, no doubt.

I think Tomb Raider games need a little more action and less exploring. I know that's the whole point of Tomb Raider and some of the games do a very good job. However, Drake: Uncharted, proves that lots of action, and just enough exploring makes for a good game.
A lot of people today just don't have the patience to explore caves all day.

Then it shows you have not known boobs for a while.

It's too bad Uncharted: Drake's Fortune replaced Tomb Raider in pure awesomeness. Uncharted 2 is going to kick even moar ass.

Just sayin'.

And what about the boobs? Lara Croft has bikini outfits.

IGN review gave Uncharted 2 a 9.5. (http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/14225971/uncharted-2/videos/uncharted2_vdr_091809.html) Besides, Uncharted has Elena Fisher. You'll like her.

Am I the only one who's not shallow and played all the games for the exploring?

I enjoyed the exploration far more than the action. ESPECIALLY in TR2.

Tomb Raider II is my favorite out of the series so far. I wish they did a remake of it instead of the first one but it's okay :). And I love the exploring part of Tomb Raider. And the puzzles! I love puzzles :-D!

...and the boobs too. Not sure if I would've felt the same while playing if it was a male character.

Well, I think they were proabably initially marketing a beautiful, big breasted woman to social misfit gamers... hopefully achieve some sort of fantasy for them...

Not that you're a social misfit, IDX. You can be quite charming. ;)

Now it's got to the point where the internet can easily quell any man's loneliness with p0rn along Mary Palm and her five sisters.

I read somewhere that her big boobs were a mistake. That the guy doing it actually meant to reduce the size and accidentally made them 150% bigger than normal. When he was fixing it, some of the developers saw what he (or she. Can't remember) was working on and they liked it. So they told him to stop.

In other words, her big boobs happened by accident.

Yeah. And they also said that it was hard to make her look feminine using the grpahics so they made her boobs huge.

Tomb Raider has always been pretty decent (except for #3 and Angel of Darkness). But I wonder why they feel the need to take a darker tone (which I usually support).

Probably an experiment if any. Maybe people are getting bored with the usual stuff and they might wanted to add horror to the mix.

Sometimes I can't understand how these ideas sound so new and original in a room of professionals. Maybe it's the effect of a big, important table.

Just think how ridiculous it must have sounded when who ever invented baseball was trying to explain how to play it.

You know, I used to be big-time into this series. I'm talking fanboy big, create your own website big (http://travel.to/tombraider). Then, it really started sucking eggs and I stopped buying the new games in the series and then I stopped playing any games in the series at all. Can't remember the last time that I actually played one...

If they could successfully revive it, that would be great, but as been said, it's already been tried so many times and the series just doesn't have anywhere near the draw that it used to.

You might want to try Anniversary. It is a lot of fun. Even Underworld I thought was pretty cool too. I still have to beat the Under the Ashes that I downloaded...

Are they for Playstation 2? or Playstation?

IDX
09-28-2009, 01:14 AM
I know Anniversary was released for the PS2 along with the PS3 and 360, but can't remember if Underworld was.

And just in case you don't know what Anniversary is, it's a remake of the first Tomb Raider game with "added goodies". I think you might enjoy it though because the last game I played of Tomb Raider was on the PSOne before playing Anniversary. I personally think that it does a good job at capturing what the game was originally about.

If it's a remake of the original Tomb Raider, then yeah, I would definitely be interested.

One of the things I have had a lot of fun with in Tomb Raider was "Wallsie." For those that don't know, that's the unofficial name for a famous glitch in the games. It first appeared in the very first game and it was so popular that they left it in as a sort of Easter egg in the second and third ones. Basically, by jumping at a certain angle, you could activate a glitch that would transport Lara to places that were really high and couldn't be reached by normal gameplay, such as the roof of her house.

IDX

Hehe, I'm guilty of using it :D! At least on the first one. I don't remember ever seeing it in 2 or 3.

EDIT: I just noticed I'm way passed 3k posts. The last time I looked at it I wasn't at 3k yet :)
