*Spoilors!!!* Do not read this untill you have finshed the game.

At the end of the game at the cinameatics, when Garnet lost her neckless, what do you think happened to it?

I have two ideas. One, being that she was the queen, her people proudly returened it right back to her. Second, somebody took and kept it and the crystal thing starts all over agian. What about you?

I thought she left it there for several reasons. Firstly, she remebered just how much grief and tragedy the four 'jewels' (of which her pendant was one) caused her and the whole world, so she abandoned it as a way of forgetting her troubled past.

Secondly, the pendant was the symbol of the her kingdom, so therefore, in much the same way as she cut her hair earlier in the game, it was a metaphor for her letting go of her past and moving on with her life, i.e in other words, she doesn't feel like she's burdened by the responsibility and stress of being 'Queen Garnet' anymore, and instead steps back into her 'Dagger' persona. After all, in the Japanese version of FFIX, her quote (written in romanji) sums this up pretty much - "I want to think of myself not as a 'princess' but as a person." As a result, leaving the pendant on the ground as she rushed into Zidane's arms was an expression that 'I'm no longer Queen Garnet of Alexandria, but a living person with her own wants, needs and desires." And what she wants, needs and desires most, is Zidane.

Wether she regained the pendant afterwards. who knows? Certainly there would be guards everywhere making sure that it would be returned, but there is no doubt that she deliberetaly left it where it fell.

Today's Classic FF Quote:

I agree with Enkidoh: I always thought that it meant that she chose her own needs and wants (finally) over her kingdom... ...which isn't necessarily a good thing, mind you. Of course, Cleopatra's life ended kinda bad and she lived 4 her kingdom...? o well, i dunt wunnuh think any more right now.

Like Enki and LEELOO, I always thought of that ending as very symbolic. I once wrote up a whole long rambling post about this, but I won't bore anyone with the details.

Basically, I think of it this way.

Imagine that you've just lost someone you've grown to care deeply for. He's taught you to believe in yourself, to trust yourself. He's taught you to have hopes, to have dreams, he's taught you to love.

Promise me one thing... please come back.

Now he's taught you that promises are never broken.

Dagger, sometimes you can't think things through, you just have to listen to your heart.

So she does just that.

In the past, Dagger had always seemed to choke on her feelings about Zidane. At times, she seemed to push him away. She had to think of other, more important things. But now, it's changed. She not only let the pendant go, she threw her crown down, too. "I finally know what's important," were some of her last words to Zid.

Do I think she got the pendant and crown back? Sure she did. But obviously to her, those were just objects from the past now. Things that might remind her of a life that I don't think she felt was hers to begin with. I don't think she really would have cared what happened to them.

...okay, I'll sit down and shut up now... :D

Yeah, the pendant thing was Garnet leaving her royalty behind.
But I forget...was that pendant really a part of that giant crystal thing on Gaia? I got lost on that part of the story.

It wasn't part of the "Crystal of Memory," which is the crystal you see in the background of the Kuja battle.

It was a part of what Dr. Tot called the "Legendary Crystal," which was thought to hold the power of the Eidolons and other mythical powers, etc. etc. The summoners had broken it up into four pieces, and that's where you get the four crystals.

Alexandria's Silver Pendant
Lindblum's Falcon's Claw
Cleyra's Desert Star
Madain Sari's Memory Crystal (or memory earring)

One, probably right.

Two, only a stinkin' jerkface grizzly bastard son of a bitch would do that.

Three, your moments from the end credits, your job is done.

;) your the one to talk. regardless of how old this thread is... the ending of FFIX resembles how in the story, life was deemed so pointless and unvalued. The crystal was more important. I guess you can say also that Garnet not going back for the pendant resembles how Gaia has changed and life is valued more than a stone. or something like that. and plus, every final fantasy needs a cliche love story/happy ending :).

Absolutely.

It's still pretty irresponsible and immature to just let something that dangerous drop to the ground for any random undeveloped person to play around with.
