I'm not sure this post has been made but I wanted to ask what you called your aeons or even Tidus, but I doubt any of us changed his name:

Valefor - Going to change the name to Celeste
Ifrit - Nasher
Ixion - Arceus
Shiva - Suciune
Bahamut - Going to change the name
Yojimno - Joker

What did you call yours? Many people may have not changed the names because you liked before but I'm playing this the last time and I plan to complete this with different names.

I'm one of those ones who keeps the canon names, mainly because I can't think up decent 'Final fantasy-esque' ones. XD

Uh? You can rename them when you get the aeons. Or are you just being sarcastic?

If i ever change, i usually name the main male character Akira and the main Female Angel....

This is going back to Secret of Mana and FFV methinks...

Zak, Tidus is nameable at the start-- that's why nobody in the game ever speaks his name out loud and the reason why all the "It's you!" and "It does look like him." in FFX-2.

I always keep the default names...

Roger - Yes my name is "ggfzzzzzttRrrrogeerrrffzzzgg*staticsound*" and im fine!

that would e horrible if games could actually speak your name you typed in, it will be all weird.

I always just stick to default names, just feels right. To this day, I'm still in awe at the fact that they made a game that's 40+ hours and never once does anybody say the name of the main character. Blows. My. Mind.

I stick with the original names, always. But this makes me think of something hilarious--I bought a used copy of Chrono Trigger for SNES and somebody had named all the characters something inappropriate. Crono's name was F*cko. LOL

Due to my hatred of this game, I've permanently erased the names of the Aeons I used from my memory, though I do 'think' I just left them as is. For 'Tidus' though... the name 'Numbnut' seemed appropriate.

Appropriate, yes, yet I find it doesn't quite describe how much of a Numbnut he really is..

Yeah, I noticed they never say the names. In fact, they never say the Aeon names either. It's creepy.
That's funny about the Chronos Cross thing. Heh heh... I did that once to my FF1 characters when I was 12. Then my mom saw it and I had to delete my save. :(
I never rename anyone. It doesn't seem right, and then you have to take into consideration all the time the Square people spent thinking up names for some of these guys.

I prefer to stick with the default names. Other names just seem weird for these characters. I was actually happy when the names stayed normal when FFXII came out, because the story seemed to be more complete. Instead of referring to Vaan as "him" they called him by name. I wish FFX was like that. It would have been better if Tidus' friends actually called him "Tidus."

I never rename my characters because I want to know who people are talking about when they mention the characters by their real names.

If I rename them, I'm libel to forget what they're actual names are and then I'd be lost in conversation.

Bahamut: Pwnzor!
Anima: Sephy

I think all FF games need a "Namingway" like FFIV has. Otherwise, I think the option to rename your characters just sort of . . . ruins it :S I mean that's just me, but I'd rather use the names they were given :D
I personally don't understand why they bothered to give you the option to change their names in X, because well, it's voice-acted... And I think them never once saying Tidus' name is kinda silly :S

Yeah i just thought up names that start with the same letter that the aeons name is. I want to change Shiva's name to Siena but i cant so that stupid. And one person does say Tidus's name. In kilika when you first arrive there on the boat (after sin's attack), and the aurochs are doing repairs there's one of them outside a hut who says somthing like "you should help out too Tidus". Not a lie not a joke, its real

There's actually a person in the Moonflow who mentions your name. I think there would be a couple more, but I haven't noticed.

I stayed in keeping with the authenticity of these wonderous fake creatures called Aeons and kept the names of the usual culprits the same.

I only renamed Valefor to Ayda as I was having a conversation about a character named Ayda from something else at the time and I was stuck for a name.

It's a been a while since I played FFX, but I can't remember any character speaking Tidus' name out loud. I think that's why a lot of people get stuck between calling him "Tide-us" and "Tee-dus" in the English-dub. Wakka says Tidus' name out loud in Kingdom Hearts though, but that could be considered irrelevant to FFX.

Anyhow, I also stick with traditional names. It's hard for me to see them as anything else.

Agent0042
02-02-2011, 05:25 AM
In the original Kingdom Hearts, it was said as "Tee-dus," but then in Kingdom Hearts II they switched to "Tide-us," only adding to the confusion.

I didn see the other part to the thread. Tidus I ended up calling Neild, I wish I would have called him, Twit, Twat, Prat or useless.

All of the above would have been more appropriate.

That's one thing I didn't really like about the Aeons in FFX... sure they looked good, but A: felt more like playing Pokemon when you call them and B: Were kind of uninspired tbh. Sure, we know what they are (fayth etc w/e)... but apart from that, so what?

Razzle Dazzle
02-09-2011, 10:43 PM
Well, I've started to play FFX all over again (6th or 7th time, already); And this time I named the beasts:

Tidus - Shuyin

Valefor - Pterya
Ifrit - Maghmar
Ixion - Raiju

...And that's all for now.
P.S.: I really doubt they had any brainstorm to come up with the names and the aeons. Most of them are divinities and demons. Valefor (Valefar), for example, is known as a prince of the occult. He is represented by an eagle with a lion head.

Oh, the summon names are usually drawn from mythology. Odin is a common summon from the Final Fantasy titles and that's from Norse mythology. Gilgamesh, named after the character from The Epic of Gilgamesh also frequently crops up as a recurring character. Bahamut, on the other hand, is original and stems back to the king of dragons from the very first Final Fantasy title.

Edit, never mind. Apparently Bahamut has his origins in mythos as well.

Razzle Dazzle
02-10-2011, 12:45 AM
Well, I doubt that Bahamut is a "Final Fantasy-original", as there was a dragon in the Arabic Mythology named Bahamut, aswell. However, it just proves my point, RPG's aren't THAT creative - they just go to wikipedia. q:

Darth Revan

What I meant... the history of the Aeons in the world of FFX, while seemingly to be important to Spira and it's inhabitants, is lacking. The summons as a whole, are based off the myths and legends from different cultures around the world.
