Nice, thanks for this.

There is no way to decode those files yet, it uses a crappy EA codec that we haven't been able to crack yet.

Infernus Animositas

Yeah, it's kind of annoying but oh well. We will break it eventually

Other news: The 320k rip is now up.

Thanks for this. I've been trying to extract and convert the music files from the game, but I couldn't do it. So I'm glad I've been able to find the whole thing here.

One thing I noticed though, is there is a fade at the start of all the tunes. :\ These fades aren't in the music in the game, or any of the soundtrack tunes you can find online. :\ I don't suppose you have the music files without the fade by any chance?

Thanks again.

Some of these tracks naturally fade out. But none these tracks have that fade in effect when you listen to them, I made sure of that.

Normally when you choose a song, it will fade in and the one you're currently listening to will fade out. But if the song you were listening to has finished playing, then the new song will begin with a slight fade in.

So yes these tracks do fade in.

Normally when you choose a song, it will fade in and the one you're currently listening to will fade out. But if the song you were listening to has finished playing, then the new song will begin with no fade in.

So no these tracks don't fade in, and if they sound like they do the song is meant to sound like that. For example - Podie Tie from the Indie station. That does a quick fade in naturally.

No, but all the files I downloaded from you have a fade in effect at the start of the tune within the first half second of the tune. =\ Like Milkweed, Amazing Facsimile, etc. I downloaded the real rips from the soundtrack so Amazing Facsimile was one of them, and it doesn't have the fade in like the one I downloaded from you does. =\

So I was asking if you had the files for the Stereo station tunes, but without the fade in effect. It seems like someone has added the fade in effect with some sort of music editor.

EDIT: They aren't the most noticeable of fade ins, but I can definitely hear them fade in. =\

Infernus Animositas
08-21-2009, 04:40 PM
I haven't done that to any of the files, what you hear is exactly what the game has given. Anyone who doesn't believe me, try it for youself. Let a song play through fully until its silent, than choose another song and see if you still get that quick fade in effect with your own recordings.

Maybe that's how the song was imported into the game with that very slight fade in effect for each one, then again, it could be just some code in the game forcing it to do that and we won't be able to get rid of it until someone makes a program capable of ripping the game. They are all like that naturally I'd say.

I have no control over this until someone finds a way to extract and decode the music files from the game's package files. Maybe the official OST doesn't have this fade in effect but its as you said very very slight like about half a second or less.

I'm doing a 320k rip atm. I would do FLAC but there's really no point as I'm sure the game's music files are encoded at 128kbps 44,000Hz.

I'm almost done with my rip also. I'm tired but I'll try to have it recorded, tagged and uploaded before I go to bed tonight.

You're welcome.

One of my favourite songs on this new rip is Madina Lake - Let's Get Outta Here found on the indie station.

The location songs are quite good as well. And the remix of The Sims 3 Theme by The Young Punx! sounds awesome as well.

EDIT: 320K rip is now up.

Awesome. I had to get these using fraps since my Stereo Mix is now gone on my PC. I've tried to locate it but it's not there.

Weird thing is that Fraps records what I need... So I don't know.

I'm glad to know that it sounds good. If any tracks sound dodgy like there's a skip in them, post the name of it and the time the issue takes place so I can listen to it and tell you whether its meant to sound like that.

Thanks. Also an update, I received an e-mail from someone saying I don't have the loading music used when travelling to places. This is true and I can't do anything about it until the game's audio compression is figured out.

Unless someone can figure out a way to pause the loading screens long enough for the whole song to play, there's not much I can really do.

And Brendan, thank you so much for uploading!

Most of the location tracks don't list any kind of artist or composer when you go into options. It just has "-" so I just put Steve Jablonsky as he's the main composer for the games.

Thanks AlvaroRG.

I would like to do each of The Sims right through to The Sims: Makin' Magic but I don't have any of the games and the complete collector's edition doesn't have all the tracks for a complete rip.

And I will continue to rip and post these as they keep coming out.

AlvaroRG
01-24-2010, 03:39 PM
Oh yes! But I think it's not neccesary. As far as I know, all the tracks have the same quality of sound, 128 kbps I think. So, you don't need to record them if you have the files, it's absurd... Otherwise, congratulations!!

BTW have you recorded The Sims 2's music?

Infernus Animositas

Well, I can barely wait for the Ambitions Soundtrack.
Do you intend to rip them too, when it releases?

Infernus Animositas
03-10-2010, 03:30 AM
Yes Argus. I plan to rip them as they are released. But they won't be complete rips until someone has found a way to extract the music from the game's files.

When that happens, I will rip them all again in FLAC and 320K MP3 and put them up for download.

Do you have any other Sims ost in lossless ?

Infernus Animositas
03-10-2010, 10:11 AM
EDIT: The Sims 2 games music files were already lossy compressed MP3's. I just ripped them directly from the games files.

The Sims 2 collection thread can be found here (Thread 63716)

But other than that, I'm sad to say no I don't. Like I said before, I'd really like all the original Sims (Generation 1) games individually and rip their soundtracks but can't find them other than when they're sold in a complete collection DVD.

Argus Lart
05-30-2010, 04:15 AM
I was watching some videos of ambitions and I noticed that there are some special soundtracks for the new careers!

The Firefighter career has its own music playing in the back while we rescue somebody, and it is awesome!
The same for the ghostbusters! A creepy but fun music play when we are chasing for ghosts!

I wonder if when you rip the soundtrack for us, you will rip these special songs too! I think detective has its own too!

Brendan, you are a god amongst men. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I never really liked the original soundtrack EA released as a purchasable album, I was looking more into the what the radio stations were playing (since that's what I listen to, because that's what my Sims listen to... makes sense? Hehe), then I found this thread. I must say, you are made of awesome.

Now to find the Latin music from Sims 2, because that too was awesome.

Also, as an update to you all, when The Sims 3 comes out for console, I'll have a look at it and if I can do a direct rip of the music, I will do it and upload it.

EDIT: I'm going to try and rip the Sims stories music. I would rip console versions of the sims games but I'm not sure which versions have the same music / have different music.

EDIT #2: The Sims Stories games seem to have the same music as the original sims games. Unless someone points out a song from the games that isn't on my rips, then I won't do it.

For those of you who are still subscribed to this thread; I bring exciting news.

Thanks to a rather nifty chap named Zench, the VGM commune is now able to decode headerless EALayer3 codec music files.

I've already re-done The Sims 3 and will do World Adventures EP, High-End Loft Stuff and Ambitions again converting them from the .sns files.

However with this good news comes some bad, this decoder and hacked tool to convert this format is still quite new and as such, I haven't been able to convert the loading screens from World Adventures rip but I could with the original Sims 3.

So when I upload my new better quality FLAC, 320K MP3 and OGG rips of these, be sure to thank Zench for making it possible and also to barnaby64 and OrangeC from VGM Legacy for helping me out as well.

EDIT: Also, the decoder can only do background music at this present time. So I can't get any object SFX (e.g. guitar) until this tool is tweaked some more.

EDIT #2: Thanks to OrangeC, I now have the all of the loading screen music from World Adventures. I'm going to make a new thread with these game rips. I'll take these links down after I've reuploaded the soundtracks and post a link to the new thread on the first post and this last post.

EDIT #3: Finished ripping, normalizing, tagging The Sims 3, World Adventures, High-End Loft Stuff and Ambitions. Expect the new Sims 3 rip to be up sometime tomorrow in a new thread.

EDIT #4: New thread can be found here. (Thread 78374)
