Thank you. I bought this ages ago and got lumbered with the 128kbps edition that was doing the rounds at the time.

I wish Disney would just stop with the nonsense excuses and techno-cobblers about incompatible digital recordings (use the damn analogue master then!) and just release this properly. It HAS been thirty years now...

Veering off topic slightly, which of the following would you say describes best your view of the movie itself?

a) Misunderstood masterpiece.
b) So bad it's good.
c) Piece of crap.

Just curious. ;)

This is a classic movie I dont care what anyone says, if you like sci fi you will like this movie.

Unlike the OP I actually watched this when they kept showing it on TV in the 80s, it was the first movie I liked that much that a young me 6yrold tried to firgure how to record on VHS, I think I still have the VHS recording somewhere.

Oh man the red robot scared the shit out of me when I was younger, those killer blades.

Those tin can robots were cool, I felt sorry for old out of date model, when he died I was like nooooooooooooo!!! hey im a kid at that time, and even now id probably choke alittle.

I luv the fight the two robots have at the end too, while all hell is breaking lose on the ship.

One thing I never got was ending, it was kinda like they all passed through the afterlife?
That crazy mad man got punished and was inprisoned inside the red robot who was now a black robot? he seemed to be trapped in hell?

The other people looked like they were on their way back to earth.

I have no idea why disney treat this movie like shit, its a good family friendly sci-fi.

And the score is amazing if its one thing I remember the most its the score, "Into The Hole" is one of the best pieces of music Ive ever heard, I already had two copies of this score but yours seems to be the best yet, so thanks alot.

Just curious. ;)I was very young when I saw it for the first time (4-5 years old?). So it is hard to me to answer ^^;

When I was young, obviously it was a masterpiece to me. I still remember with love those robots (the broken one, the black chief, the red one WAAAA SO GREAT !), the spaceship or even the black hole.

I saw the movie the last year i guess, it wasn't so great, but still good ;)

When I was in like sixth grade I read Alan Dean Foster's novelization of it (much different than the movie, I was surprised when I finally saw the movie.) I remember thinking to myself, "I can write like this!" and it started me on the path of a writer.

Not to lessen the value of Barry's cool score, because it is great, but I wanted to comment on the film. For the time, the special effects are excellent. Also, when I recently saw it again, the cinematography is so epic and intelligent. Thats all gone in contemporary films. In this film, there is very clever use of space and angles. For example the way the explosions are shown from the bridge, all that excellent lighting and shaking.
