ADK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADK_(company))
- Twinkle Star Sprites, should I say more. :/ And yeah, they made a bunch of famous games as well.

Compile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compile_(software_company))
- A famous company which owned the rights to the video game "Puyo Puyo" and other famous games. I only missed them because of Puyo Puyo. The new Puyo Puyo don't interest me that much.

Wolfteam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfteam)
- I loved almost all their games, btw Motoi Sakuraba came from this company when Namco took them over. My favorite game has to be "El Viento"

I'm sure there's more, but I can't remember them. I gotta boot up the old systems again. Jaleco rings a bell, but I only have one of their games. :/

KID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KID) when bankrupt in '06 and was bought by Cyber Front. 'Some' of their games were brought out & translated by Himeyasoft and J-List (well, I think they are just sellers though).

Marceline

Yup, Hirameki brought over some of their stuff, but they went out of business last year. :(

I thought that Cyber Front was just going to put out KID's unfinished games, not do new stuff with their team.

It's too bad Hirameki never brought games like that over to the DS, I think it would've sold a lot better than the PC ones did. Thankfully there are still companies releasing weird visual novel stuff here. Just heard the other day that Higurashi will be coming out in the US.

I totally forgot about this company Telenet Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telenet_Japan). Poor Valis series. I would have loved to see a remake of that game. And let's not forget Working Designs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_Designs) and their HUGE delays.

I miss Working Designs. Sure, they took forever to release anything, but it was always so worth it! Also, I don't think a remake of Valis would be good. It doesn't strike me as the type of game to make a good transition to 3D, and I'm pretty sure they'd try to make it like that.

Game companies I would like to see rise from their graves is the following:

Compile so they can finally make that sequel to Golvellius that they promised since it was a damn good game!

Sunsoft (not necessarily dead but they switched to pachinko games and not much else) because I really want to see a New Blaster Master game

Sacnoth/Nautilus Mainly because I really want another Shadow Hearts game goddamn it!!! There may still be a chance to see one though since a lot of former Nautilus employees went to feelplus inc.

Also about Ultra games: Ultra was actually just a US distribution company for Konami due to the limit of overseas releases of Nintendo games produced by third party companies. Konami, producing a ton of games for many systems made the company as a way around that restriction. Ultra was disbanded when the SNES came out and that restriction was removed. Still, Ultra does have a place in video game history and hey, without it and the creation of Snake's Revenge, Metal Gear would not be the franchise it is today.

ADK-I love their games, especially Magician Lord!

Sega has no other choice. Really.

They have no other strong series other than Sonic. And not making money would be a little hard to do while surviving. They have tons of good games and series, even today, but they simply don't really sell.

Dreamcast was ahead of its time, but it bombed. Due to several reasons, mainly, though, because its predecessors bombed too (lol 32x and Saturn) and because of the Playstation 2 and Sony's insane ad campaigns for it. And after that, Sega had literally nothing left except for Sonic. Thus milking them into oblivion, just like Squeenix milks Final Fantasy.

I agree with Eshvoide and BNX: Working Designs NEEDS to come back! Only they can make a proper release of Lunar 3 (and maybe, just maybe, finally get around to telling the story of the Four Heroes!). What better story for the third game than the story of Dyne, Ghaleon and Co., complete with North American pop culture references and ber-magnificent voice acting (yeah, I'm looking at you, John Truitt! How dare you NOT show up for Silver Star Harmony!?). Plus, I'd like to see a game where Althena gets a role other than "superpowered damsel in distress", and also some development on that Eiphel guy and the five fops he works for.

Because even though Obsidian Entertainment is basically Black Isle, they seem to have forgotten about quality control - every single damn Obsidian game is riddled with bugs. Nobody had to wait a month after Fallout was released to play the damn thing.

Technically Fallout was pre-Black Isles, and made by a largely different team. Fallout 2 was the Black Isles one and was notoriously broken, which was made worse by the fact that the patch they released for it was incompatible with old save files.

Raidenex
01-03-2011, 07:19 AM
Upon further investigation, you're mostly right - Fallout 1 was developed by Tim Cain & co at Interplay, by the team that later made up Black Isle. However, they left shortly after Fallout was released to found Troika, after which Feargus Urqhuart took over lead design for Black Isle to develop Fallout 2 - it's this team that left later to found Obsidian. A lot of Troika employees ended up at Obsidian, however the three founders (and project leads on Fallout) took jobs at different companies, including Blizzard.

Clover is a good choice but seeing as they're Platinum Games (http://platinumgames.com/) now, I'm actually okay with that. Sure we might not see sequels to previous games in the same exact quality but I'll keep following their games.

Working Designs as a publisher would be great to see too. I mean the successor company Gaijinworks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaijinworks) is no where as good. Closest thing we get these days is between Atlus & Nippon Ichi Software aka NIS which are both doing fantastic work in their own right.
