The 1996 soundtrack for the 1925 Phantom of the Opera (still the best version made after the original book of Maurice Leblanc) by Carl Davis (320kbps). The soundtrack is mainly based on the opera Faust, by Charles Gounod.

Great!! I haven't heard Davis' score for this, and I've only seen a very ragged copy of the film - unrestored - so this is a real treat!

Davis is so versatile; he often either pastiches or even quotes from classical music in these silent film scores, but it's all done so tastefully and skillfully. And after all, this was exactly the practice at the time. He's also comes up with wonderful themes of his own, and weaves everything together seamlessly.

Do you have his score for Broken Blossoms by any chance??

Thanks again :)

I'm not sure if I should be ashamed right now, but no, I haven't even heard of Broken Blossoms...
I got to know the music of Carl Davis about 2 years ago. I was looking for the soundtrack for the 1959 Ben-Hur when I found a 1987 score for the 1925 film. As soon as I listened to that score it all came back to me: I did see the 1925 version a few years earlier with the music of Carl Davis, and I was sold immediately :-)
The 1925 Phantom has always been one of my favourites, so I was surprised to see Davis had made a version as well. I only saw the film with the Thibaudeau-score. (btw: I would be very glad if someone had the Thibaudeau cd?)

There's the TV movie with Burt Lancaster. The soundtrack is by David Addison and I bought it on iTunes. Unfortunately, there was no cover to download. Does anyone happen to have it?
