the old school NES has some of the best game music in my opinion. i sometimes burn those mp3s onto CD and listen to them in a car as if it's a new album by a favorite band, and i'm not embarrased by this. i would like to see if there are others who do this too.

All the time. I've been making mix CDs of video game music for years now, and am thinking of putting those up for scrutiny/listening if people are interested.

Without question. Even when cars still had only cassette players, I would record sound tests for playback. I was a freak back in the day...still am, but less so.:D

if you do listen to 8-bit music a lot, what are your favorites?

Shame, shame, arthurgolden...no Tecmo SUPER Bowl? That was one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to, even when I got thoroughly creamed in the game(which was often).

Balloon Fight, Bionic Commando, Castlevania(mostly 2, but 1 and 3 were also good), Contra, Crystalis, DuckTales, Final Fantasy, Gauntlet, Gradius, and Tetris for me were my favorites.

Come to think of it, I didn't have nearly as much 8-bit favorites as I did 16-bit favorites...

Tecmo Super Bowl was an oversight. Consider it added. I'm an idiot.

Yeah, why not? I grew up on these games (and tunes):)

I really don't see a reason to be embarrassed anymore. Video games are much more accepted, at least in America, than they used to be--as is showing nostalgia for old games now that the virtual console is making it possible for people who don't know about emulators to play their old favorites. I know a lot of grandparents now who play the Wii and know the Mario music.

I was the first to vote for 'noooo' :erm: Don't get me wrong, I grew up in the 8-Bit era, but this kind of music brings up for me only nostalgic memories- but it isn't music I can really enjoy for a longer time. I prefer modern scores because of their better(in example orchestral) quality.

Play old NES music in the car? Sure. You won't catch me driving to the beach blasting it at full volume for all to hear though.

You bet - though it confuses and infuriates my passengers. ;)

If I had some on CD you bet your sweet ass I would. I've played all kinds of music to torment passengers in the past like german and french rap, DBZ tracks and wrestling themes, perhaps I need to hit up the download section a bit more ;)

Alright, we know we all jam to old school music in the car. Now I ask you this...what songs would you recommend for a mix CD of said old music to jam.

I might have to throw something together.

Not many ride my car (because it's a mess), but I do play game music of all eras once in a while a tune from the NES will slip on. My other friends who know some might say, "what's this song I've never heard of it before..." and you reply "it's from...

...this game. " (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCySRzfhers) (And I am STILL waiting for a remix for this song)

---

Though there are some of my friends who don't seem to grasp the concept that some of the song lengths were kinda short (some :30~:60 seconds) and wondering how you can stand this music playing over and over again. I just say I'm used to it.

Here are a few of my favorites:
- Astyanax (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbeTBulYkiI) (Remilia)
- Bubble Bobble (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFcSBLP_4n4) (Main Theme)
- Contra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqFhczSljwM) (Jungle)
- Ducktales (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_80PQ543rM) (Moon)
- Guardian Legend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYH7pRottu8) (Intro Stage)
- Gyruss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjYf94WPV80&feature=related) (Flight)
- Megaman 1, 2, 3, & 4
- Metroid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wHwJoxw4i4) (Kraid's Lair, even though I hate the stage, I dunno WHY I listen to it)
- Legacy of the Wizard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-0yKH7Gc3Q&feature=related) (Meyna's Theme)
- Life Force (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUzatm1itc8) (Stage 3)
- Little Nemo the Dream Master (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5TSS9MzgHc) (Stage 2: Flower Garden)
- Punch Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8ulYMU4TqU) (Bout Theme)
- Shadow of the Ninja (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjDD6NYqCEk) (Intro & Title)
- Spy vs Spy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0SnFxI221k) (game theme)
- WURM: Journey to the Center of the Earth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtkrTEgHse0&feature=related) (Title)

Can't think of others atm...

Of course! Love the old video game music in it's 8-bit awsomeness but I also really enjoy video game music cover band stuff such as the band Konami Kode or powerglove. The music brings back so many fond memories. :)
