Downloaded this score to check it out.

It's actually very good. It's better than some proclaimed AAA releases (like Wolverine). The score is a good balance between orchestra, symphony, choir, electronics and percussion. The orchestration and mixing of the orchestra is also superb. Which is normal since you had the London Symphony at your disposal.

Also there are some very great themes at work with some good variations in tempo and instruments. I didn't see the movie but the soundtrack is (apart from 1 or 2 tracks) a good stand alone listening experience which is also a big plus.

I really hope you get some bigger movie projects in the future Serge cause this sounds really promising. I even added this to my iTunes library for future listening. :)

How big was the orchestra you recorded this with? And did you use real choir or votox/wordbuilder for the choir sections?

I saw you did the orchestrations yourself which is remarkable these days since a lot of composers hand out temp tracks and let the 'work force' do the job of orchestrating and mixing.

Shame for the bad quality cause it is indeed a re-encode of a lower bitrate. That's easy to tell when you listen to it with HQ headphones. But better then nothing :)

Thank you very much for your kind words Licenturion, it's much than apreciated, really :)
I don't know if was better than Wolverine or other A-prod who don't deserve a lot of budget for the score, but the sure thing is it was the highest budgeted score I've ever work on for a motion picture.

...

by the way, what do you use a professional or hybrid headphones?

cheers, stay in touch
Serge

No problem. When a score is bad I say why it is bad. But when something is good it must be said as well and elaborate a bit. And in this case it's very good.

I saw it on your website that the music is performed by the London Symphony. When I like something is usually do my homework and search for some additional info and read some other reviews to see how others think about it. I not only listen to soundtrack but also read a lot about it. :)

I already thought there was some votox in some tracks cause I've been listening to trailer music lately and it's really easy to distinguish real choir and votox choir for me.

While I can understand that a composers doesn't have to do everything like mixing, editing, conducting and so on I think it's great you do your orchestrations yourself since it's actually one of the most important things when composing. Composing a bare bone track is one thing and isn't all that hard, but actually bring it to life by orchestrating it is the most important thing. So congrats!

I use Sennheiser’s HD 800.

Keep up the good work!
