I'm trying to breed a gold chocobo. I've got a black chocobo and a wonderful yellow chocobo, I've raced them both up to S, and have givin them both 99 sylkis greens. I've tried to breed them with a zeio nut more then 30 times but keep getting eather a black or a yellow chocobo. I know what a gold chocobo looks like and i haven't reset on one. Can anyone help me out?

Sadly, the chance of getting the desired chocobo colour when mating them is completely random, meaning the best course of action is to always save your game just before you mate chocobos.

That way, if the resulting newborn isn't the right type you want, you can just simply reset the game, reload the save and try again. Eventually, you'll get the chocobo you're after, although it may take a while before it happens. Patience and perseverance is the key here. ;)

I would argue for the poster that he/she has tried that very method '30' times with a save prior to the actual breeding. There is something really wrong though. 30 times unlucky generally suggests that something is not right.

Hmmm. Is the 'wonderful' chocobo you're trying to mate your Black chocobo with a 'dashing chocobo'? (A Dashing one that is a chocobo that is flat out speeding on Choco Billy's examination.)

From what I remember, there is only one Dashing Chocobo in particular that can breed a Gold Chocobo, and that is found in only one spot, the chocobo tracks near Icicle Village on the Northern Continent. It was a really long time ago that I bred my Gold Chocobo though (like, nearly ten years now) so my memory is hazy I'm sorry to say. But I think that's the crucial part of it.

Other than that, I have no idea what the problem could be.

It's all coming back. The tracks on the Norther Continent are definately the right ones, yep but there are some fast little buggers next to Mideel. They are not the right ones incase you have taken your yellow ostrich from there?

I think the answer is probably simpler than that. If he's playing the PC version, the random number generator has been known to screw up when you save. It happened to me once when I was breeding chocobos; the only solution is to get another wonderful chocobo and try again.

Or to get a savefile editor. That's the great thing about the PC version. If the game is screwing you, why let it? Get a savefile editor and put it in its place.

Are you sure you're mating a male with a female?!

ROTFL-- say what, noskill? I don't think the game will even allow you continue with the process if you haven't selected chocobos of opposite sex.

I reckon there was a huge slice of sarcasm in there.

Yeah, I've tried to get around it; it won't let you mate two males or two females.

I'm not 100% sure since it's been a couple years since I've played the game, but aren't the Chocobos just classified by how good they are?

Like... it doesn't say, "This male Chocobo is great!" Just "This is a great Chocobo!"

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Here's everything he says when he puts a chocobo in a stable:

"This is a great chocobo!"
"Do you want to put this one in a stable?"
"Then give the chocobo male/female a name."

So, he tells you what gender it is after you decide to put it in the stable. It's kind of annoying when you're trying to find one to mate with a chocobo you already have and you have to go through new ones like this just to find out what gender they are, but there you go.

Better way of doing it, is to stop trying to get knights of round. Take on emerald weapon AND ruby weapon without it (i did and it was simple using the right strategy)
Then go to kalm and theirs ur gold chocobo just waiting as a reward.

What the shit? When did the OP mention anything about fighting E/R?

he said he wanted to breed a gold chocobo, but i gave him a better option if hes just doing it for KOTR. If he really wants to breed a gold chocobo and just to say hes done it, then by all means just keep trying the wonderful chocobo and black chocobo combo.
I did it just by about 50 quick resets if all i got was a normal chocobo then i resetted and kept trying. was easy enough.

Who says he only wants it for Knights?

If your using the Playstation version I think it also matters which chocobo you select first (Black or Yellow) when the guy asks you to select the 2 you want to mate. I forget which one, but if you choose the wrong one first your chances of getting a Gold Chocobo is greatly reduced.

When you mate them choose the black 1 first then the wonderful. I heard there was a glitch or something im not for sure.
