VGM Legacy Thread


Hello guys i am sorry to say that its time to close down shop here and pack up and move to another community, The vgm legacy HQ, Our new home, So this Home of vgm legacy on FFS will be closed. I will invite new members via pm to the new community seeing as it is private.

Reasons for this is because i find this forum Absolutely not appreciative of my rips, the amount of leeching is unbearable and i even got in it with some of the members who question my ways, i even got called nasty names by some.

Sure you say: orangec plz dont be affected by those" you know its very hard for a gameripper like me to do that because sometimes i work on one week for a gamerip and all i get is name calling and leeching, my thread goes to page 6 already which seems no one cares at all for this thread and for what i am doing

How ever i would like to thank the select few who managed to say thanks for all the rips i have uploaded. You know who you are and you might get a special spot in our new place.

I will leave this thread open to see the responses and how people feel and to see if any vgm legacy members want to get there last updates in. However if i see any negativity or requesting i will ask for it to be closed. Another thing that i have a problem is with the requesting, even though i have already put up a new rule about no requesting. Well as once a wiseman said, You cant fix stupid.


I really hope you guys understand, its been fun three years here at FFS, but now its time to move on to bigger and better things.

I also would like to thank jessie for all his help in finding me links to games and his support in this thread.

Okay. Why ogg?

Because its more quality than MP3.

Ogg 500 kb/s. Mp3 320 kb/s. There's a difference. If you don't like ogg you can convert to mp3.

Past 320kb/s, hell even past 196, can you even tell the difference?

Ogg has a better compression algorithm, so you save space and get a better sound. Simple convert a wav file to 128Kbps mp3 and then to 128Kbps ogg.
Even 96 kbps ogg sounds better than 128kbps mp3s. Further the ogg codec is free - its not patented like mp3. I wonder why people use still this shitty old codec - multichannel is not supported by mp3 too, so it will be not supported by us for gamerips. Many new games have multichannel tracks.

The only thing is that ogg need more cpu power but thats all

Does this mean Assassin's Creed can be re-done? The newer rip is good and all... but I REALLY don't like how there is so many tracks and the titles are kinda weird.

Well normally ubisoft has no filenames and its damn hard to rip the games because of their stream system. I will take a look because of quality reasons - the PC version had oggs 128kbps, mabye the xma tracks have a better quality but first i want to crack a few crap containers on the x360, so iam busy.

Where's "Spyhunter: Nowhere to Run"? Is that being saved for "Next Update"

by the way Resident Evil 5 has multichannel tracks. You will need a good player for that and of course a 5.1 soundsystem. You can use foobar2000 or if you use winamp then with the DirectSound output plugin (out_ds.dll 2.2.10) not the waveOut output plugin. Of course you can play these tracks with all players, thats only for surround sound audiophiles.

Hey OrangeC, do you know if had rip this song from the game, I'm looking for the short music where Bourne escapes the dock's gas tanks and they explode after he exits the area in "The Womboacy Assassination"

Well, was the music in a cinematic? If so, that's probably why it wasnt included, mixed with sfx, we don't rip cinematics here unless there's only a little bit of sfx in the track (gas tanks exploding would probably make a big noise). ;)

I can tell you is that it used in many in-game battle or chase endings, but thanks for it into consecration. Its defiantly part of DJ Oakenfield music mixed with John Powell's Bourne music.

Yeah the score from the game "The Book of Unwritten Tales" is really great. Well similar scores like fable or this one are not easy to find because these scores are very special - its not typical fantasy - sounds more gnomish and
trollish ;) .Typical fantasy scores sounds more like Heroes of Might and Magic 5 or Storm of Zehir, Elven Legacy or King's Bounty The Legend...

Dynamedion has done also great fantasy scores like Paraworld, Anno 1701, SpellForce 1/2, The Guild 2, The Settlers 6... but these scores are different to the above. These scores sounds more serious with more percussion and sometimes its typical middle age music. Then of course Jeremy Soule and many many other composers.

Maybe you can try "The Spiderwick Chronicles" this is a very gnomish score and sounds sometimes like the old warcraft 2 score

And of course wait for my next update ;)

I think OrangeC is working on a Force Unleashed rip for the 360.

force unleashed later until a better xma header can be made because force unleashe uses headerless xma and for now that is crap.

Yeah, some 360 games are still a bitch to rip.

Well, it's like earlier ripping. It took ages to figure out PSX and PS2. So it won't happen overnight, even though more progress has been done now IMO than what was possible back then.

There are still enough containers which cant be cracked because of the compression - Its only cracked a audio codec not more and the x360 use not only xma - Mp3 / Ea layer /Adx and maybe other codecs too. Ea Layer3 is still not cracked. And almost all Ut3 engine games like X-Men Origins are precompressed with LZO or other compression schemes which are crap to decode

HarukiMurakami as far as I remember music in StillLife is kept in the game dir in .OGG format. So you can grab it by yourself, if you have the game. =)))

I'm with Tyrael...Demon Stone is a soundtrack I've been trying to find for a long time. Also, if anyone could provide a complete soundtrack for Pitfall 3D: Beyond the Jungle, that would be awesome!
I tried ripping Pitfall 3D myself, I got a ton of songs (and all the Bruce Campbell voice clips, yay!), a lot of which were duplicates, and I was still missing music from the majority of the stages. I can only assume that it wasn't done correctly.

The most significant difference between OGG and MP3 is that MP3's compression process actually drops samples. OGG does not... ie. if you decode it back to MP3, the track will be perfectly identical in length to the original, while the decode from MP3 will be (almost?) imperceptibly shorter. I only know this from when I was messing with the soundtracks for Ys I & II Complete... but it's a noteworthy difference.

Two questions: 1, can someone re-upload the "Eat Lead" soundtrack, and 2, does anyone have any voice clips from the game?

Nope, OGG is not supported, you need to convert it into MP3.

I already have a rip of Black and White - you could just request it in my thread. Whenever someone's searching for a rip please look into my list first (link is inside my collection's thread). I don't know anyone who also has such a well-sorted list.

FINALLY!!! I finished the rip of "Darkstalkers Chronicles"! =) The reason it took me so long is that it contained over 670 files which I had to convert, check for doubles and loop them. In the end I looped 88 files and came out with 104 songs and over one hour of music!
Normally I don't rip eastern games, but to keep the timeline of the PSP games, I included this one.

I'd be happy to try some rips myself, but I'm getting the impression from this thread that some game developers use REALLY weird methods of putting sound in a game, and it may take some real technical know how to get around it.
