Hi, i just wondered if any of you rename characters when you start up an RPG. Me, i can't stand it, i have to keep the default names, even if they're stupid (well, stupid to me...) like Wakka. I recently got my mom interested in FFIX and she renamed the characters horribly (Paul S, Gene S, UGLY, Susie???!!!) and it irks the hell outta me to watch her. I guess it goes down to the fact that i play games to escape from myself, and the last thing i want is a bunch of names that'll remind me of the real world. OK...

I did the first time I played FF3/6/whatever but thats it. I only renamed a couple and from then on I keep the default names. And with FFX having voice acting I think they should get rid of name changing all together. It's kinda wierd how nobody says Tidus's name through the whole game, addressing him instead as "Son of Jecht" and "Star of the Zanarkand Abes"

But then again, with all this talk about his name being pronounced "Tee-dus," maybe it is not so bad they never said his name this time around.:D

Sometimes I do, just for fun. But mostly I just keep the default ones.

I never do unless u have to think a name for the characters by default.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">Nope, I always keep the original names. A lot easier that way. Not only do I have trouble thinking up good names, it's a lot easier to talk about the game if you keep the charcaters with their original names, or it can get confusing. :)

I usually just rename the main character. It just personalizes it for me. I don't do this in FF games though, those names just seem to fit best. I've found that I use a common name for my other RPG series "Yuri." I don't know why or where I got the name from but it works. With four letters it works for practically every RPG there is out there. Anyway thats my piece.

The only time that I change any of the names in any game that allows it(mostly ff) is after I've beaten it. But when I play FF7 I change Aeris back to Aerith like it should be and I change RedXIII
to Nanaki because that of course is his true name.

One time when my friend was playing FF8 he accidently screwed up Quezacotl's name by putting 'Quezacot!' so we yell that at each other sometimes now. o_o

I always rename all the characters to match those of my friends. I usually try to match them based on personality or looks too.

Also in FF8 I spelled everyone's name backwords.
Why?
You wanna know?
It's simple.
Uh.
Oh yeah.
I...don't...know! :D

The first time I play a new RPG, I tend not to change the names. I try that with almost any game that you can change names. Second or third time around is when I may start to rename.

On FF7, I named Barret Nigger, and on GS, I just changed 2 or 3 names

Nope, I never have renamed any characters in any RPG. I like to keep their unique names. Yes...they do have quite unique names if I do say so myself.

I rarely change names the first time I'm playing an RPG. It sorta ruins the feel of it...or something.

But when I'm playing it another time around, I might change the names. Change ones to their 'real' names, such as Red XIII to Nanaki. But it is weird when they say stuff like: "So Nanaki's real name is Nanaki?"

I used to name the main character with my name...and give the others my friends names... and its weird if you give everyone the same name. Hee.

I always name the main character after me, than I just leave all the rest of the names default. It gets confusing if you change all thier names.

I usually don't, except the redxiii nanaki switch, and sometimes i make variations like I changed Serge to Derge. (is serge pronounced ser-gay? I thought it was like surge, but my friend said it wasn't. can someone verify this?)

I was rather fond of it back in the day....I recall a Final Fantasy 6 (well, 3 then) universe in which every character was named after one of my many cousins. I used to like to pick a theme by which to name characters, and then come up with the name that would best suit the character within my theme. I grew out of that one though, as it has been quite some time since I ever called a rpg character anything but its given name. I still follow that theme rule when naming everything in Harvest Moon though.

I usually rename the main character(if a male) my nickname or "alias" and the othere male characters I use my friends name with which one suits the character and my friend :p .

I usually don't rename the female characters though. ;)

the main character is alway named after me (i don't know why) and the others, if i got a good one i knows then i will change it or if i like the they already got then i would keep it the same but i got a new way on naming charatcers now, One day will play chorno chross i thought of this way take the curser and point it at a letter punch it in then with out looking at the letter of the name keep press on letters ontill you you find a name you like.

eg= i pressed R E K M O N for the name and it sounds cool so i keep it . try it, you may find a name you like.

I always play a game to its fullest, so that includes having default names through the whole game.
I may occasionally change the lead character to my name (Unless its a female)
