I was wondering what might be the best out there for someone who's new to this genre/style. What series are good? Should I go with movies/shows or comics or what? Any suggestions either post or pm me.

well their is a whole bunch on anime and manga like Cowboy Bebop is a good series and..Trigun, also DBZ it's just all depends on what you like and interested in.

Very well said. Here's some types of popular series:

DBZ- Action, Adventure

Tenchi Muyo- Comedy, Drama

Gundam Wing: Action, Drama

Trigun: Action, Comedy

Cowboy Bebop: Action

Sailor Moon- Comedy, Action, Drama

These are just a select few...there's way too many to choose from.

Just pick your style: Drama, Action, Comedy, Adventure, you name it and there are probably tons of anime/manga that fall into that category.

You'll probably like Cowboy Bebop. It's the closest to american cartoons, so start with that. Then there's Evangelion. Most people don't really like/understand anime until they watch Eva. It's a great anime to start with. I guess you can give Dragon ball a try, but some people(like me) find it really gay and stupid, though. It's just shirtless guys moaning and flexing at each other. It's suppose to be a fighting anime, and it's really popular, but I think it's way over-rated. Rurouni Kenshin's better. Kenshin has real fight scenes, so try that instead, if you don't like Dragon Ball.

Well, Adult Swim isn't all anime. It's just a bunch of inappropriate shit. (Except for Cowboy Bebop...that's the only thing I watch anyways) ^_^

Just surf through channels and see what anime comes up. Maybe you'll like it. Or go through the Internet and look at anime images, read their character profiles, etc. Then maybe download some episodes. That's generally how I usually find some of my favourite animes.

eva is good if you're prepared (i wathced the entire series when i was eleven...probably was a mistake X_X )

it depends if you want deep stuff or fun action stuff, or a mix. if you want a mix, go for things like trigun and rurouni kenshin . . .

mm, but i like kawaii girls' anime (shojo) like sailor moon, magic knight rayearth, etc etc, which i think are good . . . but it depends on one's taste.</font>

Naa, I started out with Sailor Moon and then moved on to Magic Rayearth Knight, Eva, Tenchi, and others.
I've only seen a couple of shojo anime, so I can't really say anything 'bout it. XD

I rented episode 1 of Ayashi no Ceres, and I liked it, but the voice acting sucked. XD You'd probably want to read the manga instead...

Cowbow Bebop is probably a good anime for you, since your new. I didn't like that show much, but..

I guess it all depends on what you like. Action, Drama, Comedy, whatever else. XD

1. Gundam:

-If you want to see a mecha that can destroy its enemy easily and very cool-----> Gundam Wing or Endless Waltz.

-If you want to see some coverboys that can make you to nip your own finger----->Gundam wing and Endless Waltz.

-If you want to see the "real war" -----> Gundam Universal Centuries (for ex: Gundam 08th MS Team )

2. Evangelion:

Watch this anime to see an unique story! If you're really a freak one, try to solve the real ending in this anime!

3. Chobits:

Do you feel lonely and want to find the real meaning about "Social creatures"? find it in this anime. It's really funny and entertaining.

4. Kenshin:

Kenshin is a man that really "almost" perfect ( because he always win ). Aoshi is cold man, but actually he has a warm and good heart. This anime is full of such an insteresting characters and plot.

And etc......

Berserk is what got me into anime and manga, and it's still my favorite. It's a good fantasy/horror anime/manga. If that sounds interesting to you, then you might wanna give Berserk a look. Hope you can stomach lots of violence though.:cool:

hey miya what channels play anime cuz the only channel ive seen any anime on it is cartoon network

sometimes the aciton channel plays anime, but rarely, and they're really bad (with the exclusion of Akira). Anyways, if you like action, and you don't feel like buying a whole series to start off with, buy Spriggan.

You should watch Gundum Wing and DBZ also try watching tenchi myuo. There really cool.
