Do you ignore certain games because they are made by certain companies? Or do you want to buy games, because a certain company made it?

Neg

I shouldn't, but I do.

I don't think I'll ever buy a Squeenix game again. I'm going to buy Again: Eye of Providence because Cing made Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk.

I personally don't, if it's a good game it's a good game. But I do try to research or find out about a game before I spend big money on it though :-/ i'm too poor to buy crap

Most of the time, yes.

To be honest, more often than not, the company that makes a game is more likely to make me NOT buy a game.

Like THQ for example.

never.
however, certain companies are labeled as "favorites" of mine.
such as atlus.
besided that awful ps2 game called tsugunai, there is no atlus game that has dissapointed me

It affects the way I buy games to some extent - I usually like games made by Rockstar, and am skeptical of games made by EA. I also usually go for games made by companies such as Naughty Dog.

I don't really care. Company gives me a good first impression if I know nothing else about it, but in the long run no it does not have a play in weather I purchase a game or what I think of the game

Most games I buy, I have either played before or what have you. Gameplay is kind of a factor for me, at least, I don't want to play another RPG that has the insane random encounter rate as say Xenogears or FFIV. The story is actually more of a motivator, that's the whole reason I resumed playing Xenogears after a four-year hiatus....

Well I stopped getting Crash games because I got Crash Bash and Wrath of Cortex and realised they were horrible and that they were not made by naughty dog so I put 2 and 2 together.

So yeah in some ways I guess.

Surely. Back when Square Co./Squaresoft/Square-Enix had a better rep, I did it all the time. Atlus too. But getting older made me smarter about buying because a lot of titles these days are merely published by companies I used to favour.

I avoid EA games like the plague. Imo I have seen everything EA gets near wither and die. I played alot of Ultima Online way back in the day and when EA dug its claws in it became garbage shortly after. I have never been able to look at their games the same way.

Platinum Games = Clover = AWESOME YAY ! I'll buy the three of them, MadWorld, Bayonetta and Infinite Line. And it's the same for Suda 51 / GHM games. Oh and also games made by Treasure and Vanillaware.

I never rent games, I usually check reviews before I buy any game, and if the reviews are average, and its a company i usually dont buy from, i won't buy it. But yea theres makers that I dont buy from, I always disliked Midway games. Idk if there still in business or not, and I dont really like Atlus games either.

Naoto_Aeron

Midway's actually going OUT of business, but that's a different story. And that's a shame, because NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, and especially Hydro Thunder need to get on a digital distribution service sometime soon.

As for the topic: yeah, the game company DOES affect what game I buy. If its a publisher, developer, or pub/dev combo I don't like (let's anger a few fanboys on the site and say Square Enix. They keep making RPGs and whatnot when they should really be making a sequel to Einhnder), then I don't buy the game. On the other hand, if it's from a company I do like (SNK Playmore, Valve, Konami, Capcom, and Treasure), then that game's as good as bought.

There's an exception, and that is if the game's good/bad. I usually check the reviews for the game before I buy it, and that affects my buying decisions more. (Exception: I bought The King of Fighters Orochi Collection here in the US, for instance, before the review came out on 1up.com. It didn't fare so well, and as much as I'd like to argue otherwise, those freakin' load times are obnoxious.)

Well, it depends, really. If I know that a company is going down the shitter, I'll keep away from their games until I hear otherwise. Back in the day, you could just pick up a game because so and so created it. Nowadays, you can't do that. :(

But then again, I've never just really had a favorite company. I'm usually trying to expand my options these days. :3

I won't touch anything EA with a ten and half foot pole (actually there are a few exceptions such as some Wii titles that are enjoyable) well to be more specific; I will not touch SW-TOR (Star Wars: the Old Republic).

@Neg: I've only grinded with the C64 and the XBOX. The PSX/PS2 aren't very user friendly...

I used to enjoy games made by EA back in the day when they actually tried to put some quality in them. But now all they can seem to pump out is repeated garbage in a series with a new label.

EA games has made great games. They really redefined the Burnout series, along with Timesplitters, and others. Also, they have ruined some series. Example: Need for speed. Although NFS has been an Electronic Arts title, as the years went on, each installment became progressively worse. The classic games for the PS1 were great, and Hot Pursuit 2 was great. The latest ones have not been nearly as good, especially Undercover. There are other really bad games such as Boogie.

I will steal their games though.

Just wondering, what games made you dislike Ubisoft?

Possibly the various amounts of shovelware on the Wii... with them not actually returning the favor with their ace games, like Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia.

But anyhow... I don't generally stay away from specific companies, but I do generally check out companies more if they are high on my list of respekt. Highest on that list is Nintendo. Then companies like Sega, Konami, Capcom, Namco, Atlus, etc.

I didn't use to care until we got this whole psn/marketplace thing on our hands. Now,the next time i have to decide whether to spend my money on a game by Namco (oh, since you fans wanted it so very much we're selling vader and yoda for the bargain price of $6.00) or Konami (free MGS4 dlc), i won't have to think too hard.
