"Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis, & "Crush" by David Archuleta are some songs that will remind me of '08 :D

Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes
Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet
The (Shipped) Gold Standard
(Coffee's for Closers)
20 Dollar Nosebleed

Weezer's Red Album on the whole is very MEH, but The Greatest Man to Ever Live is fantastic and was written about Garamond, once upon a time.

No surprise, the only new album I really cared about this year was Metallica's. In clean quality from the GH3 stems, it's fucking ace in my opinion. I like all 10 songs on it very much.

I suppose my other favorite is the Flight of the Conchords album, although it's mostly material already heard before.

I liked Meshuggah's obZen but I only cared to listen to it once aside from the song "Bleed." I also liked Testament's new album The Formation of Damnation, but like Meshuggah's, I only listened once really.

The vast majority of my other musical adventures this year were from old releases and I listened to a lot more comedy stuff than usual.

I didn't go to any concerts/shows :(

5. Danger O's - 1994

Other good stuff from this year: Let it Go by The Guts, The Methadones/Copyrights split (really I only like the Methadones side of this but it's worth having for that), Leave Alive by Pink Razors, Kepi Ghoulie's solo stuff, Civil War by Dillinger Four, Guerrilla Marketing by The Steinways.

Also want to mention a new band called I Hate My Friends. I made friends with their guitar player at this year's Insubordination Fest. They're really cool, sound influenced by Jawbreaker, D4, Crimpshrine and such.

Biggest disappointment of 2008: Easily this goes to Be Your Own Pet's Get Awkward. Their first album is one of my all time favorites so naturally I was pretty stoked for this, but it is utter garbage (and then the band broke up). Classic case of a wonderful band being ruined by their own success.

Here is the 2008 best of mix. Enjoy!

5. Girl Talk Feed the Animals

Maybe this should be higher. Brilliant album though, he is probably better than 2 Many DJs, who are amazing, but just draws on a little too much rap for my taste.

4. Beck Modern Guilt

Beck is great, though some of his previous albums are definitely superior.

3. M83 Saturdays = Youth

I saw M83 live in October, it was great. This is probably the best, and certainly the most consistent, album theyve released.

2. Okkervil River The Stand Ins

Not as good as its 2007 companion, the Stage Names, but a beautiful album nonetheless.

1. REM - Accelerate

I had given up on REMs new stuff and was content to just listen to their impressive back catalogue, but this album is a major return to form. I first heard a lot of the tracks when I saw them live in July, followed by the National in what might be the best 1-2 combo ever. But yeah, fantastic.

Honourable mentions

The Mountain Goats Heretic Pride
The National The Virginia EP
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
TV on the Radio Dear Science

Playlist 2k8 babes!

1. The National Youve Done it Again Virginia
2. Lost Coastlines Okkervil River
3. Ghosts Laura Marling
4. The Mountain Goats Sax Rohmer #1
5. Fleet Foxes White Winter Hymnal
6. British Sea Power Waving Flags
7. REM Until the Day is Done
8. TV on the Radio Halfway Home
9. M83 Graveyard Girl
10. Hot Chip Ready for the Floor
11. MGMT Kids
12. Crystal Castles Alice Practice
13. Bloc Party Signs
14. Tilly and the Wall Pot Kettle Black
15. Born Ruffians Kurt Vonnegut
16. Ane Brun The Treehouse Song
17. Beck Orphans

mossy: i think night ripper uses less rap than feed the animals. at least my friend was initially put off by the amount of rap on fta vs. night ripper, so make of that what you will. he did warm to fta though. i didn't mind much either way. they're both fantastic albums!

feed the animals is probably my album of the year. i also like m83's saturday = youth. of montreal's offering this year was incredibly disappointing. new wolf parade was alright. new tilly and the wall was good, but i didnt like it as much as their first two. was also pretty let down by love is all's album. i didn't get the silver jews album because i thought it was a live album for the longest time and i have no idea why i thought that. i don't have a formal top 5 this year because i wasn't interested enough in new releases, plus sort of busy. and lazy.

it is a pity animal collective only released merriweather post pavillion this year. it's my favourite album in ages. well, since panda bear did person pitch at least. ;] the year was only 5 days old when i heard it first and i have to say i can't imagine anything else bettering it!

edit: forgot vampire weekend. that was good too. and distortion by the magnetic fields was nice. hell, maybe i could make a top 5, but a lot of stuff i just quite liked rather than really loving. i didnt check out many new bands, just new released by bands im familiar with for the most part. i think it was sort of a disappointing year in general music-wise. mhmm.

edit edit: oh and mixtape about nothing by wale was cool. i mean, i couldnt listen to it on a regular basis, but it was neato. i also missed max tundra's album which is awful because i love him and i will have to check it out soon! i also still want to listen to deerhunter, atlas sound, the walkmen, fleet foxes and maybe even santogold's albums. but i dont think i will find anything absolutely amazing there, i've kind of half listened to deerhunter's and it's alright.

I dunno Duo, they are both pretty rap-y, but it's all so fast and frentic that it never lasts long enough to hamper my enjoyment of the music so it's all good.

Bon Iver's album is apparently 2008, I thought it was 2007, and I'd probably rank it in my top 5 if I were to do it again as well as Samamidon's album which is superb. That always happens with these things though, my 2 favourite albums of 2008 would be Boxer, probably my all time favourite album incidentally, and the Stage Names, neither of which I'd even heard of when I done this last year. Oh well. I want to get the new Animal Collective and Franz Ferdinand albums, Ulysses is a fantastic single I think, but beyond January I am not too sure what's on the horizon with regards to 2009. The National's new album's been pushed from late '09 to early '10, more's the pity, but if they are still amazinggggg that should be fun.

Foals - Antidotes

My remix of Electric Bloom is one of the best tracks of 2008. :p

i didn't get the silver jews album because i thought it was a live album for the longest time and i have no idea why i thought that.

I love their latest, and I am super sure you'd like it too. :]

mossymossy, I have no idea how I missed out on that Okkervil River record! Like I said before, I haven't checked out so many albums this year opposed to 2007.

These records, however,

Scarlett Johansson - Anywhere I Lay My Head

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!

I did check out, and thought they were awful. :\ Nick Cave should focus more on Grinderman imho. Just like Mogwai's and Portishead's latest albums were kinda dissapointing.

But overall, besides annual album-wise, the year was super neat. ~
