Yeah, I'm sure most of you heard about this. If not well...uhh YEAH! It's gonna happen. Not too sure what to expect, but I am leaning towards 70% FAIL. Can you blame me? Just look at Dragonball (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTmpnb8siic) and all the changes they have made.

I hope THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jafd97yJFOI) isn't an accurate predicition.

I guess we'll have to see.

Any thoughts?

I miss the old 90's dub of Akira, with Cam Clarke. I saw the 2001 version in NYC and it just wasn't the same! Still...I hope they don't gork up this live action remake.

This actually has the potential to be a good movie, if done right. Unfortunately, most Anime, Video Games, based movies aren't done right.

A live-action Ghost in the Shell might be interesting. Just so long as they don't cast Charlize Theron to play as Makoto Kusanagi, or totally butcher the plot which would appear to be the case in the up coming live-action DB movie :(

Oh man... a big budget Live Action GITS movie would be to die for. Lol Charlize Theron...strangely enough she would probably look the part, but hopefully they could find someone else if it were to ever happen.

Well, here's a script review that was out awhile ago...

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-a-look-at-the-live-action-akira-remake-akira-part-1-5678

Seems like it might be shaping up nicely. Also, any word if they're basing it on the manga rather than the anime? In that review it mentions that Akira was cryogenically frozen which sounds more like the manga to me. I could be wrong though.

I Heard they were splitting into 2 movies because of the size of the manga (which i think there basing it on rather than the anime.)

I much prefer the whole fleshed out story of the manga to the movie version.

Movie is a Fucking Classic dont get me wrong just, out of the 2 i know what i would choose.

Its also not going to be set in a "Neo-Tokyo" its going to be set in the states. Obviously to accommodate the whole Americans playing every character in the movie. So think more "Neo-New York" or Maybe "Neo-DC".

Is DiCRAPrio still down as producing it or is confirmed he's kaneda?

Well from what I read. DiCaprio is a big manga fanatic. If he's still planning on producing it, hopefully (I'm honestly praying) he keeps it as the manga would, and not do what hollywood would. I fucking hate hollywood. They fuck up everything.

This is the first anime motion picture I've ever seen (well that I actually acknowledged what an anime was). Watched this when I was a kid. One of my favorites. If this really becomes a success, then he could produce Wind Ninja Chronicles aka Ninja Scroll. Another goodie to us old school anime fans.

Eh.

And I say that as a geekisly huge fan of the source material.

also: anything other than the original soundtrack (which I'm sure they won't use) is blasphemy in the highest.

That soundtrack was weird. They might try to do something similar tho...just to keep some fans at east. I DOUBT IT THO
