...and I need some advice.

Is there anything I should pay particularly interest in? I just bought FFX and FFXII, and I plan on beating FFX first, so it's going to be quite interesting to make comparisons between the both.

I have the next three days off, so it is off to FF Land!

Find out what chests not to open for the final weapons. I read the strat guide after it was too late. THey are fairly early in the game too

I found FFX a lot more enjoyable than FFXII (XII felt a bit like a grind).

Hope you enjoy them though. <3

I found FFX more enjoyable cause it was my first one, but FFXII is clearly the better of the two games.

Do the hunts. They make the game far more enjoyable.

I wouldn't worry about all those items that require you to meta-game, personally. FFXII is dead easy as it is, so you won't be at a disadvantage if you miss them. You'll probably enjoy yourself more if you forget about that crap and just play the game.

Thanks guys!

This is how I play a game the first time: I usually just enjoy the story, but at the same time make sure that everything is up to date. I am usually pretty careless about getting all of the final weapons on my first play-through, and try not to strain me-self with getting everything on my first try.

I have some advice regarding those two games, but, um, someone in my position probably shouldn't be saying such things.

Oh ho, Imma bad boy~

It's easy to enjoy to the story in FFX. The presentation is probably the best feature of the game.

For me, FFXII had far better gameplay which heavily distracted me from the story.

A polite way of saying I didn't enjoy the story as much

Well, I actually agree with you that the story in X was better, overall the games are probably about equal since some of the battles in X could get somewhat dull. I just don't agree that the story in XII was totally hopeless, but ah well, we've been there, done that and got the T-shirt already.

Also, I'd go along with what Throne said. Hunts definitely add a lot to the game. Some more general advice: stealing from things in this game can get you some really good stuff, especially when you get Thief's Cuffs, so do it a lot. At the very least, you get some loot, and since Gil in this game is quite scarce you can't go wrong with the Steal command. Also, chests re-spawn, some of them can have much better contents than you get on the first attempt.

I'd make sure to look up the list of 4 chests not to open for the ultimate spear. Also, you might want to look up a guide for quickenings; remember, the bonus for getting quickenings is an increase in MP (there's a recent thread started by a member who did not know this). The early clan hunts can be difficult, as well (notably Cluckatrice).

I hated FFXII so much. It ruined the random battle aspect which is what makes Final Fantasy unique. Fine, fine, it's a change, and a lot of people liked it, but a lot of people did NOT like it. I have only gotten as far as Ashe's temple where her crest thingy for her to prove she is royal blood or whatever is located.

So my advice is, enjoy FFX to the very best of your ability because that's the last one where we get a fun battle system. (Until FFXIII I hope! I have high expectations of that game.)

Random battles are not unique to FF.

I'd edit the title of your post, but it seems my powers only grant me the ability to change its contents. Oh well~

Also FFX-2 (While the story was pretty cruddy) had a kick arse battle engine. So before you go off and start saying that anything after FFX had a terrible battle system I think you should lay off the crack pipe

I think he meant it's what we've come to expect from FF, I don't think anyone is as dense as to say random encounters is the soul property of Final Fantasy.

X is a better game for me because of the story. XII has a story but the sections betweens cutscenes and dialogue can be so long that you begin to feel detatched from the characters. However XII has a lot more secrets and sidequests to keep you playing longer.

Even giving him that benefit of the doubt doesn't help. So, he's using random battles as a SELLING POINT for the franchise?

lol.

Yes you're right. Ok. Looking back I now see how my post could have been regarded as crappy. Let me try and do this a different way.

I thought FFX was the better of the two not SOLELY because of the random battles aspect, and I know it isn't exclusive to Final Fantasy. What I meant to say was, because I've became attatched to that battle system, it was quite a quick change I had to try and make when FFXII came, and obviously, I still am not that fond of it.

Sorry If I seem(ed) like an idiot. But I'm not using it as a "selling franchise".

I suppose I'm just still a bit cheesed off with the change of battle system and wanted a rant.

You're also correct. I forgot about FFX-2, and actually I quite enjoyed the story too, but that's probably just because it was the sequel to my first FF.

I rather liked ffxii's battle system (a.k.a. "The Game that Plays Itself For You"). FFX's turned-based battles didn't seem much different from FF7-9, whereas I enjoyed near-realtime action and having the ability to customize commands with the gambit system.

Final Fantasy X is AWESOME, and it's perfect and that's all to it.

I just started Final Fantasy XII yesterday and haven't stopped playing!!!! it's pretty damn good, and I like the battle system a lot!

though my favourite battle system is still Final Fantasy X-2's, but that game was far too easy
