Ok, just wanted to see what everybody has to say about FF8s battle system. I thought it was pretty good, because it was somthing new that Square had never tried before, and if Square kept doing the same thing in every FF than they would get old after awhile don't you think? Well what are your opinoins?

I thought it was pretty damn good. Not Squares best, but a very good one.

No, i didn't like it really. It really should've said the magic points and your max HP like FFVII.

Well, it certainly WAS different, and it was brave of Square to give a new battle system a bit of a go, but to coin an old phrase "It it ain't broke, don't fix it." The battle system for Final Fantasy VII was spot on, in terms of materia for magic, summon spells, commands, etc.

I think the thing that hurt it in the end was that the magic system and junctioning the magic to each of your stats meant that you didn't want to use the magic for fear of dropping your max HP, or your max strength, or whatever. The game should've had magic points, and the GFs, aswell as learning skills, should've learnt you spells aswell, a bit like Final Fantasy VI's Espers. The strength of bonuses to your stats could still be affected by the spells, but as a percentage to your level at that time. E.G. If you're level 60, then your strength is 60% of the maximum, etc.

In the end, I only played through Final Fantasy VIII to see the ending. I gave up on trying to make perfect characters like I tried to do in Final Fantasy VII.

The battle system was below average. The number of options were to low and sometimes a bit confusing. And I hated the limit break system, cuz to get 1 u must b nearly dead and the u mcould use them, but I often died before I could use my break so that's y I hated it.

At first it took a while to get the hold of but from when I played it it seemed that the more i used it the more it grew and now I think that it is actually one of the best joint with ffvii if not better. I prefere waiting for your gf's to be summoned and junctioning magic does take a long time to get it up to scratch but once its sorted its very rewarding

Yup I did. It was sort of hard to learn at first, but it's worth it. I hardly used the magic, but it was all good. ^_^

I never had any troubles with it o_o It was something different. The stock magic thing could have been better though, but the draws and such for the first time is fun ^_^ I only used magic for junctioning though ^_^
It's not the best, but it's dealable..

Stocking the magic and Junctioining it made it more challenging for me because if you used the magic your stats would fall down, but it's all just for challenge, after many months I finally made the perfect team which had all max stats.

well, i for one loved it..becuz it actually encouraged you to fight, cuz ther was no magic to help your ass at one point in the game ;)

I really liked the battle system. Although I probably spent 10 hrs + altogether doing it (my game hours maxed out and I still kept playing. did u know the time turns red when it reaches 99:59?), i enjoyed the way that u junction each stat. I never use magic in any game hardly, so i didnt have a problem with not wanting 2 use it cuz it was junctioned.

I was pretty pleased with the battle system. It took me a little bit to get used to it, but over all I thought it was fine.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">I liked FF8's battle system. I quickly got used to the junction system, and used it well. Drawing magic did take a long time, but you could learn refine abilities and do it like that instead, which would be very quick.

The one problem is that you could make the game too easy for yourself. But then, if you don't want to make it too easy, then don't give yourself great junctions really early on, simple. ;)

The fact that enemies level up with you is good, as it makes levelling up unnecessary. Constant fighting just to level up to be able to play a certain part of the game easily enough gets very boring; so removing this means that this can be avoided.

For the limit break system, although it made the game a bit too easy with the Aura magic, still good. Nice powerful limit breaks too. :D

I liked the whole junctioning magic thing to get your stengths up and what not. It made fighting a bit easier.

Twas kool none-da-less ^_^

It takes a while to figure out the battle system, It took me playing through half the game to realize what the point of junctioning magic was (I had only junctioned GF's) I ended up having to start over again because I was forced to wipe my PC hard drive because the TOC got screwed up. So I got to start new knowing everything about the battle system. If it were a little bit better explained (seeing as how the system was so different from past RPG systems) it might have been easier to learn, but once it's learned, it's a pretty good system, in fact I like the fact that major enemies level up with you so you can't just have really good stats and beat them easily. It keeps a chalange if you have high stats, but also makes the game beatable by anyone who has crappy stats.

I though it was ok. The only thing I didn't like about was the limit breaks because you had to have little HP to even use your power limit.
