Here it is at last. This is the score of the korean MMORPG Reign Of Revolution R2 composed by Kousuke YAMASHITA (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=32506), one of my favourite eastern composers. I found this totally by coincidence searching for Zera's composer's name. That's what is usually called A HECK OF A LUCK!

Knowing it's YAMASHITA, I knew this couldn't be mediocre. But when I started listening I realized that this score transcends my expectations. The music is SPLENDID, pure neo-classical orchestral grandeur in the great tradition of Golden Age Film Music. Reminds me of composers like Hermann, Rosza, Korngold... The orchestrations are somptuous and the conducting is brilliant.

If you can't stand most modern Hollywood scores with their retarded use of percussions wich tries to create a pseudo-impression of complexity, if you're tired of Media Ventures and their simplistic melodies and basic chord progressions, if the sound of cheap fake strings perforates your eardrums, then this score will be for you a true symphonic delight.

Now enough words, please judge by yourself.

Thanks

Is it official or just a game rip?
This score can be downloaded for free from the japanese online portal "hangame". So it might be the "official" score. :)

Forgot one question: does anyone have a tracklist from this score?

Jesus Aitch, this is magnificent - absolutely bloody superb! How is it that Asia doesn't seem to realise what has happened to the art of orchestral scoring, across almost the entire surface of the world? How does a composer barely in his thirties get away with turning out this timeless, instant classic in a world where mediocrity is not only the norm, but is actively encouraged? And why does Korea consistently hire Japanese composers whenever they need something really superb? (Joe Hisaishi for The Legend, and now Yamashita for Reign Of Revolution?)

Just a small question - any more details to go with this? Orchestra? Conductor? Orchestrator? Track listing? Anything of that nature?

Also - why are the dates in the RAR from 2006. I thought this thing was brand new...?

THANK YOU AGAIN! :D :D :D :D

Answering some of my own silly questions:

Just a small question - any more details to go with this? Orchestra?

Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra

Also - why are the dates in the RAR from 2006. I thought this thing was brand new...?

It is, but it's been in Beta for over two years and the music was recorded and packaged up then, at the beginning of development.

Forgot one question: does anyone have a tracklist from this score?

For Zera as for this one, they both come from the official site, so unless someone has found the tracklist elsewhere, this can't be fixed.

Finished listening to it and I have to say; it's a very pretty score with some beautiful passages, especially track 13. In that respect I find it similar to Shadow of the Colossus. Since I'm all about the thematic/motivic development it might take a while to get used to some of this.

In track 14 at 2:30 it really, really sounds like James Horner.

There seems to be a disproportionate number of mellow tracks to battle/action ones. Or maybe it's just that the action tracks themselves are a bit tame and never really get freakishly atonal. Some might call that the Sugiyama conundrum. But it's a game, so I'll let that slide.

By the time track 20 rolled along I was finally starting to hear the main theme (I think) in the bridge. I wonder why he used synth choir here.

Something very interesting:

A short documentary about the making of this score, with some interviews (in Japanese) of the composer, conductor,...

Heyhey, Arthierr, is it alright if I ask for a small favour?

Errr, could you upload the album to another website like sendspace? For some reason, Rapidshare rejects me everytime I try to download from it ><

Thanks a bunch, I'd really like to listen to the stuff you upload, just that... well, rapidshare screws me over >< Thanks again!

Before I do this let's try to solve your problem first, because if you don't you'll have the same problems later, and as there's an enormous amount of music uploaded to RS, it'll be annoying if you ask many times to uploaders to upload elsewhere. This is not a reproach, but just a way to make things easier for you AND me.

What message do you get exactly?

tridonite

Right, gimme a sec...

Ok, as I'm barely 16, I don't really have money to spend on Premium accounts and the like for Rapidshare. So I'm left with clicking on free user. However, I, always, get the following message:

You want to download the following file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/150025370/Reign_Of_Revolution_R2.part2.rar | 52593 KB

Your IP address 218.186.12.10 is already downloading a file. Please wait until the download is completed.

Premium members can download any number of files simultaneously. Become a Premium member now. The download will be available shortly.

This, sadly, is not the case. I'm not downloading anything from rapidshare. Heck, I don't even visit rapidshare nowadays. So... Yeah. Any ideas?

Do you have a shared connection, is there somebody else in your house downloading anything on his computer?

Nope, nothing. No one else in my house downloads stuff, they normally ask me to do it.

One thing you can do if you don't have a static IP number is to disconnect, wait one minute, and then reconnect and try again to download.

Try this and see how it goes.

Ah yes, that thread. Sadly for me, it still doesn't work. Proxy servers tend to lag my browser, so I went with not using proxy servers ever.

Its probably because I have a router at home, but there's nothing I can do to change that.

arthierr
10-28-2008, 04:32 PM
In fact as it's said in the thread, maybe your ISP uses a proxy even if you don't. The problem is that other hosts also use IP number to identify users, so if I upload to another host maybe it'll be the same for you.

tangotreats
10-28-2008, 04:39 PM
Sounds like your ISP is a cheapskate. What should be happening:

You ----> (individual IP Address) --------> Internet

What IS happening:

You ----> ISP (one IP address for everybody) ----> Internet

In other words, your ISP doesn't give you an IP address that identifies you to the outside world. It gives ITSELF at IP address and allows you (and a billion other people) to access the Internet through it. It's like having to receive your mail in a huge post box in the middle of your city, rather than having it delivered to your house. Your ISP save money by doing this but in the process, they stuff you right over.

You might want to ask them if they can offer you a static IP address. If they can't, find a new ISP... Or maybe you can convince a friendly person to upload elsewhere...

arthierr
10-28-2008, 04:42 PM
Hey, I am friendly... ;) It's just that uploading to another host won't solve the problem.

10-28-2008, 04:54 PM
Ah, but it seems it only applies to 4shared and Rapidshare. Your sendspace website, which you used to use in your orchestral thread, actually works fine.

Yeah, Starhub seems to have really interesting connection capabilities... Blah. If you could upload these to just sendspace or mediafire, I'd greatly appreciate it, a lot. If you can't, well, thats ok as well then. Thanks for your time (:

arthierr

No problem, will be uploaded tonight.

But you should seriously consider moving to a better ISP.

No CD, shockingly. These tracks were provided free by the game's production company on a now-defunct website. A terrific injustice... but as Mr Salat says, these aren't poor quality MP3s by any stretch and they sound just fine - even on expensive equipment... :)
