I downloaded the first episode via bittorrent this week and checked it out last night. Seems like a pretty cool show. Has anyone else had a chance to check it out?

It's pretty interesting so far, but it vaguely reminds me of buffy the vampire slayer for some strange reason...

If Buffy was the Democratic Party than True Blood would be The Republicans (I'm not implying any political agendas; just the disparity between the shows). I LOVE Buffy the Vampire Slayer: It's my favorite show, but True Blood is a completely different animal. The portrayal of the vampires is a deep contrast when compared to the vampires in Buffy; not just in their respective mythos but in narrative tone. The best quick description of True Blood would be a marriage of Interview with the Vampire + Twilight (sans Twilight's teenage emo angst). True Blood is shaping up to be a decent show - despite its horribly stereotyped black characters.

I like Buffy, and love Angel ^_^ I kinda get what your saying, the vamps in this are out in the open and tolerated (kind of). Terra is kind of stereotypical in that she's a loud mouth, I guess, but what about her cousin? He doesn't seem to fit any of the stereotypes, besides selling drugs and focusing on sex...nevermind. But 3/4 of the town is obsessed with sex, so I won't hold it against him.

I am so tired of garbage like this.

It's just such a crock; HURR, LET'S MAKE A VAMPIRE SHOW DURR"

BUT WAIT

THE MAIN CHARACTER IS EITHER AN EFFEMINATE 17 YEAR OLD NANCY BOY OR A MARY SUE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS.
What a tweest!
Buffy was stupendous, I grew up with it, and it's easily one of the most badass shows of the last 20 years. But GodDAMN does stuff like 'True Blood' and 'Twilight' ruin it for me.

Wow. It's a dangerous sign when TV shows are starting to rip off books that seem to be inspired by black and white movies.

I read "Living Dead in Dallas" back in grade 11 or 12 about 4 years ago - but I wasn't exactly thrilled to see it come on the small screen. Everyone's trying to jump on the 'supernatural is sexy' train. Moonlight, last year was just plain horrible - and this is starting to look a LOT like that. I don't have high hopes for Twilight on the big screen either. Something novel and not being cancelled after 4 episodes (i.e. Drive!? Sabbatical!!?) being aired would be nice.

i didn't like stuff like buffy at all, but i'm waayyyy into this show. the special effects could use a bit of work, though.

I saw the preview for it a couple of weeks ago and didn't know it was about vampires at first. I actually watched an episode (the remaining 30 mins) and thought it was actually pretty good, the flashbacks of the Civil War time, and the murders going on in town kinda pulled me in. True Blood is probably the second HBO show I'd start watching besides Little Britain USA :D

Reminds me of Kyle XY/Jericho with blood and gore. A good show that will cater to everyones needs.

There will be a 2nd Season I pressume?

No idea - HBO has a track record of killing shows that aren't turning a buck - no matter how critically acclaimed.

My wife and I watch it every week, great show.

Seeing the talk of Buffy next to Tru Blood makes me cry, because one is great and the other one should not be spoken of.

Been watching this. Didn't care much for the first episode because it was like over-the-top-let's-see-how-much-sex-we-can-fit-in-40-minutes.

Still a lot of gratuitous sex in the show, but at least it's not constant and in your face, and now that you understand the background and the characters, it's pretty good.

Definitely has its flaws, but I enjoy it.

Meh!

Fine show - the show is deff developing nicely - and more of the characters / mythos is being explored vs. the book.

There is a season 2

Season 1 ended pretty good, it started off shaky but as it went along it got better. Its not really a show about Vampires, they are just the plot used for the show and the books its based off of. You see a lot of how today's society treats Homosexuals. As well as how society treated African Americans in the past.

any show that has cute girls getting brutally kicked in the face in the first episode gets a thumbsup from me.

Interesting. They also say Twilight is really a message about unsafe sex.
