So, a silly question: Is Rinoa's dog a male or female? because I always thought it was a male. But I remember to have read otherwise on this site:

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Angelo

Althought it doesn't give sources, and we all know wikis aren't always reliable.
It also says it's breed to be half german shepherd, half border collie. Personally, Angelo always looked like an australian sheepherd to me, but I'm no dog-fanatic.
So, any thoughts?

Here's my thought:

It's an extremely minor character in an extremely shitty game. Leave it alone.

Contrary to Swami's post, I actually enjoyed FFVIII and thought it was a major improvement on Cloud's tiresome adventure with a slum drunk and a bar tending whore.

However I do agree on the WHO CARES ITS JUST A FRIGGIN DOG thought.

Haha, in fact, I actually forgot about it's existance until I replayed FF8 earlier this year: "Huh? Rinoa had a dog?".
I do actually have a life, I just got curious about the dog thing.

Holy SHIT I must be psychic. I swear, when I saw you as the last poster of this topic, these were almost the EXACT words I predicted the post would consist of. Nearly word for word.

I can't prove it, but I am not lying. This is the first time I have been just about spot on.

"Hi, Angelo!"

Sounds like a male name to me.

It's just like this place that a person asks a question, and does not get a simple answer until the 7th reply. Sure, it's not an important issue of the game. But the OP is obviously curious. Heaven forbid they should ask a question like that, on a Final Fantasy Forum..

Anyway, i personally, would say it was a male.

Let's just say Angelo was probably neutered and leave it at that.

But really, his name is a Spanish name ending in "o". They don't get much more male than that.

Angelo is a Greek name that means 'messenger' (it's also Italian for 'angel'. Big surprise there, huh? ;) ). Angelo is also a male name so it's a safe bet that the dog is male.

Just in case it's not clear yet...

Angelo is a man, baby. Yeah!

I dont believe this is even being discussed. Angelo for one thing is a dog, And plays a very unimportant part, So therefore doesnt really warrent a while discussion.

Plus the fact Rinoa refers to him as a "He" and calls him "Good Boy" on many occasions which would kinda imply he is a HE!!!

Wow, such a minor character got a whole thread entirely to himself?

Man you people must be bored to wonder about things like that...

As I remember, she doesn't adress him as "he". She says "Angelo, be good" or "Angelo is very intelligent". I remember that the dog later runs into the space port in Esthar, and Zell says something but I don't remember what did he say. so...

Yeah, maybe the translators or developers didn't know/care which it was, so it may be neutral.
Althought Angelo is a male italian name.

As Alfa-D, said, yes "Angelo" is a male name. However, he is also quite correct that there is absolutely no reference to Angelo's gender within the script. Here's something that not a single person here has mentioned though-- the game allows you to rename Angelo. So, I guess, if you wanted to choose a female name, you could feel perfectly free to.

Same goes for Squall for example. Why not rename him Ann, or Catherine or sth. Who knows, maybe Diablos is a girl too? xD
If I were to guess, I'd say that Angelo is either indeed male, or game creators didn't want to restrain players about his gender :P

Uhm... Angel, in English, is angelo in Italian. Angela is the female version, Angelo is the male version. So, I think is male. But Square might not be aware of this, so who knows? And for me, it was very strange to find such a usual italian person name used for a DOG in a Japanese game, ahaha :D

Ultimecia is named after the Greek myth of Artemicia, however horribly translated.
Hell, why not name a dog after an italian name?
And it's male, let's just assume that it was neutered like Advent Children and shipped out.

piemaker... before posting a response in a thread... LOOK AT THE DATE OF THE LAST POST BEFORE POSTING A REPLY!! Rule of thumb, if a thread hasn't had a post in it for a month - two months/or isn't on the main page, don't post a response. If the topic interests you, make a new thread instead of reviving a dead one.

Methinx a Mod should close this.
