Yeah, Official!

Anywho, the demo for this upcoming game was released yesterday. The level they set you in is the Tie Fighter manufacturing site. The opening cinematic has Vader telling you to kill a Jedi and bring him the lightsaber. Unfortunately, the demo doesn't let you go that far, having the battle end after destroying an AT-ST.

The gameplay in itself needs some refinement and I hope this is not what the final product is. Basically the entire game demo can be beaten without a single swipe of your lightsaber. All you need to do is force grab an object/person, aim, fire. It even makes the hard difficulty child's play. Don't get me wrong, the force powers are cool and fun (granted, I rarely used the lightning) but what's the point of having a lightsaber if all I'm going to do with it is block enemy fire?

Discuss your thoughts and hopes on the game, or the demo if you played it.

I thought I was the only one lookin forward to this game, but i guessed wrong. This game is off the hook. The force moves are crazy, there is almost anything you can do in this game. Im lookin forward to getting the demo, or maybe pickin up the full game when its realeased.

Yeah, neither can I. I think it will be a lot of fun being so powerful and using the force in ways never seen before but I think it may end up being a tad too easy. That said I'm somewhat of a star wars fan so I'll probably enjoy it regardless.

Watching the E3 stage demos and such, it looked a bit cheap. I don't think it will live up to everyone's lofty expectations.

And also, a teen rating? I hate seeing a light saber used on bullet-sponges. It should cut shit up.

I believe the Teen rating is so the game will sell to the the kiddie Star Wars geeks.

But I agree with cutting shit up.

As far as I know the Apprentice is some special kind of force-user who focuses on force moves and only uses his lightsaber as a final measure of defense so I guess it makes sense with the storyline for you to focus on using force moves and not be super great with a lightsaber.

And either way, it still makes the game too easy.

Light sabers cut shit up. You don't have to have 100/100 gun skill to make a bullet pierce skin.

So unless the Apprentice's retarded brain waves interfere with light I want a suitable explanation.

I have one! He's so stupid with a lightsaber that if he uses it too much, the chances of him cutting himself increase dramatically with each swing.

They should just replace the lightsaber with a pillow-case full of soap. Lot less dangerous.

Nevertheless, looks action packed. I'll probably get it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't. Looking at all the title, I encourage you to take this game at face value.

Judging from the videos, I've seen very infrequent examples of lightsabre combat ALL of which make use of the Force in some way.

They make it seem like you follow a path to redemption after killing some Jedi. I suppose Darth Vader might kill you or something.

Ugh, when I heard the title Force Unleashed for the first time I thought, "Yay! More force powers!" But no... Just the same ol' shit being forced (no pun intended) to be used over and over and over until the gameplay feels bland and repetitive.

So about 30 minutes max. =/

While I can understand a desire to get this game, I can only understand to a certain extent. I seriously see no reason to buy this even in the first six months of its release.

It seems like designers are afraid to create new force powers in addition to force pull, throw, grab, choke, and lightning.

ADMINISTRATION hijinks aside, I finally got around to trying out the demo for the game. I must admit to being just a little disappointed by what I saw, but I also get the feeling that progression into the game might erase that impression. The force powers are fairly easy to use effectively, but grabbing is a bit too clumsy for my liking, although flinging objects after grabbing them is intuitive enough to make it matter less. Saber combat is almost completely useless, but that doesn't seem to matter too much anyway since the game is balanced heavily toward force power use.

Still, there is one thing that I absolutely hate. Fucking quick time events. I've put down many a game because of that bullshit, and it seems like it'll really piss me off in this game. I failed to execute the slash that would destroy the walker about a dozen times just because I didn't know what triggered the event and kept button mashing. The event triggers way too fast with absolutely no warning, which is utter shit.

Same problems here. I didn't care for the somewhat useless targeting or occasionally clunky camera. It seemed to love focusing on the Apprentice's face in the middle of combat situations, but not too often fortunately. nokillbassist's fears were confirmed in my playthrough: shit indeed got old pretty quickly. There were some nice ways to utilize the force, but you do them so often it quickly becomes repetitive. The "combo" system felt pretty sluggish as well with some of my moves (read Force Push) activating seconds after the initial input. I did enjoy some minor details to euphoria like stormtroopers hanging on to various items to prevent being force thrown, sometimes even their own comrades.

But the game wasn't great or anything epic. It was decent, a rental at best.

On another note, I wonder why they didn't bother with a version for PC since nearly all current consoles received a port of some kind, even last gen systems like the PS2, N-Gage, and mobile phones.

I'm digging the PS2 version of the game.

Is it "God of War" meets "Star Wars", no, but it's still fun, and at 30 bucks it was worth the price.

It was suppose to be one of the best Star Wars games to come out since KTOR.

I guess it didn't live up to the hype. I haven't played it or anything, but I only hear it's about average. I guess I'll pass on this one :(

PLUS: The demo had already let me down...was hoping that wasn't the case for the full game.

It really just feels like a "Force" heavy version of the "Dark Forces" series of games...w/o guns...

I'm really digging it, it may not be worth the 60 dollar price tag, but I'd say it's worth the 30.

I'm actually thinking of getting the PSP version...:D

If you're a gamer, you'll like this game.

If you're a Dark Forces / Jedi Knight fan, you'll LOVE this game.

If you're a Star Wars fan, you will FUCKING CREAM YOURSELF over this game.

I fall into the latter category, and i've been playing it pretty much non-stop since I bought it yesterday. All the negative points in this thread are accurate - standard lightsaber combat is repetitive (press x, stormtrooper dies), and force grab can be a bit fiddly on occaision. Oh, and I played the demo too - I wasn't blown away by it.

But the positives...man. I expected, after playing the demo, that combat would get repetitive after a while - after all, there's only so many ways you can fry a stormtrooper right? But the sheer amount of variety in the way you can combine your force powers is amazing. Imagine blasting away enemies surrounding you with a force shockwave (Repulse), jumping 10 metres in the air, unleashing a surge of lightning, and then chucking your lightsaber through a poor saps throat before landing, pulling the saber back to your hand, and slicing through anyone still alive.

And yeah, that is as fun as it sounds.

The story is excellent. I wouldn't be surprised if it catches some flack, because it rewrites a MAJOR part of Star Wars history to an extent, but it's done so well that i'm glad it's being translated into a novel. This is going to blow Shadows of the Empire out of the fucking water.

And the fanservice...dear god, the fanservice is amazing. Exploring planets like Kashyyyk, and Felucia (the weird mushroom world from Ep 3) is fantastic. And one of the boss fights takes place on the edge of a FUCKING SARLACC. Dark Forces fans will be happy by the inclusion of Shadow Troopers and prototypes of the Dark Trooper project. And Star Wars fans will love the fact that on the first level you play as DARTH FUCKING VADER.

I cannot recommend this game highly enough to any Star Wars fan. And grab the PS3 or 360 version if you can - the graphics are amazing, and really help immerse you into the universe.

I have the PS2 version...

------------------------------------------------
At least he let "Mara Jade" in this game...even if it’s only a skin.

I just beat the game...thought it was decent, actually ADDED to the Star Wars mythos, and the ending is great.

I can’t wait for the second one

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I guess the PS2 version is longer or something, because I got to fight "Dark Vader" two times in a row on the first death star...

That’s like an hour to so past the Star Destroyer part.

I got a chance to play the PS2 version last night as well. It wasn't so bad though I missed the overall benefits of playing the current gen versions.

At least the QTE buttons appear where you can actually see them instead of tucked away at the bottom of the screen. And the boss battles were better paced, I think.

I'm going to step out on a limb here and declare the game a disgrace. Oh, I played through it eagerly enough, and I mostly enjoyed myself aside from the sickening amount of constant repetition and the occasionally woeful level design. But then I compared it to past 3rd person action games with the Star Wars license.

For a game called The Force Unleashed, it certainly feels like the force is pretty restrained compared to what we saw in the Jedi Knight games. Lightning is gimped compared the massive cone of crackly death those games give you. Grip's versatility may allow for some interesting ways to splatter wimpier foes, but it just doesn't excuse the omission of basic push/pull powers, and don't even mention that repulse power because it uses far too much energy to be practical.

Call me spoiled, but I like being able to confuse enemies, move super-fast, leap to amazing heights, get noticeable increases every time I improve a power, and switch combat styles in ways that actually matter. The game has nice physics, yes. And it is nice seeing the environment get wrenched around in ways I haven't seen. It's just a shame that was applied to this uninspired cash grab instead of a new Jedi Knight title.

And don't even get me started on the game's story, with its utterly unlikeable characters (Proxy excepted), extremely basic premise, and occasional retcons that add nothing of any worth to the franchise.

Largely the same.

But if you're on the fence you probably want to play it. Just borrow it or something. It'll be great for the first few levels and you won't feel cheated when the novelty wears off.

I had previously stated that the Demo was a big turn-off, but I ended up buying it and, while not being spectacular, it was still a lot of fun.

If you enjoy the Star Wars universe then you should give it a try.

ALSO: Lots of fun the 2nd play-through...cause well...I get to keep all my powers from the 1st play-through. Which means I get to annihilate those that gave me trouble the first time. THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.

I've enjoyed the hell out of this game (even though I'm currently TRL'd out of playing for a while). It's not perfect, but tossing dudes around like toys can be really fun. And I appreciate the materials technology, even if it is used sparingly at times.
