My mother introduced me to some truly terrific music as a kid. I grew up listening to the likes of the Platters, Shirley Bassey, the Shirelles, Della Reese, Nina Simone, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Dionne Warwick and the Commodores. Wow, what a fantastic legacy.

What kind of music did your parents expose you to as a kid?

Mainly country, so nothing lasting. There's still some stuff that I must say I have respect for. The Statler Brothers and Restless Heart come to mind.

I really, really want to get into country, and I wish that my parents had introduced me to it as a kid, so I would be a little knowledgeable about it today. But, I was mainly introduced to "black music", which I, of course, appreciate.

I have a couple of Dolly Parton CDs, and I love a lot of her songs. Especially the ones about her childhood and hometown in the South. O:

For me it started off with pop (Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, ahh the joys of 1996) and then I got into heavier stuff when I was a teenager (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson etc)

Now I listen to mostly Tori Amos and Nine Inch Nails.

Mostly like, stuff in the 80's. I can't remember the 70's very well though. I was born in '76. lol Probably cheesy Sesame Street music or something. I listen to like, melodic death metal now, though. Don't get me wrong, I still love stuff from the 80's and 90's, and a little from the 70's and 60's. Hell, I love it all.

They started me on Zeppelin, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix. Went on my own from there with every other genre, except for rap and techno.

Parents exposed me to country, but I only have a selective taste for it. I.E. only 80's and 90's country. Anything after, is utter shit.

My sister introduced me to Metallica. \m/

My folks were always listening to "Light Rock"... Mostly ballads of rock groups, and or the softer early 80's pop stuff that i can remember.
